I found a baby rat dying on the sidewalk in 2017. I picked him up, took him home, and learned quickly what to do. Fell in love with him, and he was my precious, sweet, smart, cuddly little clown for almost 3 years and 4 months. He was like a little rock star to my friends and family. I was inconsolable when he passed away earlier this year. I will always love him and he turned me into a rat lover💗

Additional Pylons lol they have other very cute habits even if they don’t wag their tails. Like wiggling their ears and stuff. If you treat your rats well and they trust you, they will roll over and let you rub their stomachs like a dog

@the sassy gurl The Rats in this vid are known as "Pets", while the ones in your house are known as "Wild". "Wild" rats can have germs and destroy parts of walls for them to get to places easier. Not only that but they can spread diseases, and their bites aren't like a little nibble, they bite like any other animal.

The stigma with Rats is that they are notorious for carrying deadly diseases. Obviously not a problem with domesticated rats, but like many rodents you don't want to deal with wild ones .

It is heartwarming to see a little creature who is so hated putting so much love and trust in a human . That is pure innocence . They have no concept of how much they are disliked in general.
Fancy rats are not hated. I don't see that at all here in the states WestCoast especially they are very popular! People walk them on harnesses and let the public learn about them.

I don't understand why so many people don't like rats. They're some of the most affectionate and hygienic pets you can get. I just wish they lived longer. I miss my rats but I won't get more because they die too soon.

i had pet rats and they are precious creatures. Smart, clean,, adorable, loving. They are a lot of fun and they are capable of loving you back.
Rats make great pets when you handle them at an early age as they get used to you. They loved being petted, tickled and nurtured.
When I was in High School, my friend and I got the ‘job’ of looking after the science department’s rats that were destined for dissection; we thought it would be cool to feed them at lunch time and watch them in their plastic tubs.
Little did we know what we were in for! Within a few weeks, our charges were recognising as, with squeaks of joy at seeing us. They climbed onto the wire that covered their tubs for what we originally thought biting us. It turned out they wanted cuddles!
One day, after a month of daily feeding, we decided to get them out of their tubs. To our amazement they ran up our arms and inside our shirts for snuggles. It was very emotional for us. We both looked forward to daily play time with our new little friends, as did they. As soon as they heard our voices, they started speaking and jumping with delight in their tubs. They loved their hour of cuddles from us - we even let them run over the science room benches, having a good explore. Our initial 5 minute feeding them turned into spending every lunchtime playing with them all.
It all came to an end when the science teacher informed us one lunchtime that they had been gassed and dissected the previous afternoon, right after we’d played with them.
My friend and I looked at each other and burst into tears. Who would have thought rats could be such incredible little mates? And such perfect little pets.
Memories of those couple of months way back in 1975 popped into my head and those memories brought me to this video.

Omgosh, that almost makes me cry too. I can almost feel your heart break when you discovered their fate. I graduated from high school in 1975, and if I had been in your place I probably would’ve rebelled and stolen those rats and taken them home. And then I would have been expelled from school.

Bro I just seen a rat or mouse on my curtain last night at 1 am and now I notice them in the walls
I had my first rat 30 yrs ago. 5 yrs ago I brought rats into my kids lives. Best idea ever! Our boys are free range in the house. They go wherever they want, but mostly stay in the living room! It's so funny to see them come running when we're all in the same room. They come when called by name, they're so smart....... most people don't even understand!
And yes they freak some of my friends out. When they pop outa the couch to say hi🐀👋🤟👍they're just looking for some lovings......

Not really. They've been litter trained. It's really easy to do. But accident do happen!
Free range is dangerous especially since they could easily crawl into tight spaces like the oven, microwave, TV, and you can squish them not knowing they are under cushions
Ok I guess I need to explain a little better. They have a cage/ homebase that they call home, sleep, eat and poop in. But their access is always open. They don't like our word floors so they stay on furniture and I've got it set up so they can venture all they want. Believe me when I say they aren't in danger. I've owned rats all my life and know what they are capable of.
Don't get the visual of a horror movie with rats all over the floor being stepped on!
All my boys are litter trained and know their names and come when called.
I am not an irresponsible pet owner that chains a dog outside, or owns a pet in a tank that gets no attention.
I NEVER knew people had Rats as pets. They're actually adorable. 🙂
Domestic rats are very different from wild rats - they make amazing pets, but you do have to distinguish between them and wild rats since domestic rats have been selectively bred for 400+ years now for their amazing temperaments. I always compare them to dogs (dogs have of course been domesticated longer, but its the same story - they are domesticated versions of a prior wild animal and no one would say wolves are the same as dogs when it comes to being pets).
But yup, they are amazing pets, super sweet, super trainable, super social, just the whole package! Plus they are cute as heck (according to me lol) and are incredibly interactive and fun pets to have.

Dammit!What right has any creature to be this damned cute!!! My Itsy (passed away 3 years ago now) was my heart rat and used to clean the hell out of my hands during our evening cuddle. When she passed I decided it hurt too much (as many find)...but the only way to heal that kind of hurt is....more rats! New nutters here I come!!

I get on well with kids but everyone is free to consider their animal companions equals, my dog Kiras was my daughter and no, even if I had a daughter she'd still be. @@Elyhhk these past few months a wild comes to my terrace, first day it made a mess of garbage and left some droppings, started to leave a plate for her and now she is a saint, no mischief, comes as a clock , eats and leaves, so even a wild can gather the dots if not scared or threatened. Of course they are not pets but they learn.

My 8th grade math teacher had a pet rat that stayed in the classroom, almost everyone loved it. It was so friendly and chill, never bit anyone and people who did good on their tests got tickets to have Percy (the rat) at their desk for half of a class (about 40 minutes).

People don't realize how smart and loving rats are. I've had several pet rats over the years and they are funny, sweet little creatures. Most people associate them with being dirty which they're not. They're great pets!!!🐀💕

Intelligence and sociability does not make a wild animal less dangerous, if anything it makes them more so. Just like a pet dog and a completely wild dog are two different creatures.
@David Still I don't like the idea of killing for the sake of killing, but if you were a farmer in the midwest around the beginning of the 20th century you would get a few cats and a pack of rat terriers to keep your barns free of mice and rats.

Domestic rats have many of the same behavioral traits that dogs do. They're curious, intelligent, playful, and super emotive. They are super fastidiously clean and will groom themselves and others to bond (they may even try to groom you too!).

My mom doesn't like to put rats down because they usually gas them
@@shaneteas6579 Typically it's done by injection that kills them instantly and painlessly. Never heard of gassing being used as a method of that.

Rats are the cutest little darlings, I adore them. Everything about them is cute. I love their little faces, their noses and whiskers, their tiny little hands, the way they hold their food when they're eating and I also love the way their little hands and feet feel when they walk on your bare skin. Rats are so cuddly and smart too. My only complaint is that I wish they lived longer. They're only here for such a short time. Have to love and appreciate them while they're here❤
