I'm one of the bad producers who started in 2007 and let laziness get the best of me after college in 2015. And now here I am taking a break from playing video games to watch youtube - On the weekend between a lame 9-5 job. Do yourselves a favor and don't repeat my mistakes and wind up washed up like me. Good luck! EDIT: Also thank you for this Zen. I think we all stand together on this.
This one hit close to home. Love it, brother. Started working with FL Studio in 2005, joined the military, worked my ass off. Here I am almost 12 years later after producing on and off. I'm making the best music I've ever made, the next level procrastination and goals towards other things prevented me from progressing early in life. Now I'm cruising, trying to get in the studio and make something, ANYTHING! Love this video.
Much needed one for me! While going to work, I sometimes carry my unfinished stuff & listen to it on headphones & write down the issues in my mobile, so that when I get back I have a purpose.
Looking back through some of your old projects can also be a good source of inspiration because you may find something like a melody or a sound that you like that you probably wouldn’t have known about
Zen is on fucking point guys. One of the most important thing is to turn off all the social media around yourself, it will truly increase the creativity. Thank you Zen for helping :)
I've noticed that the more I study music the more I become obsessed with the little things like is this sample in key, does the kick hit hard, is the mixdown good etc and when I first got into it I didn't give a shit about any of that I just enjoyed tinkering with stuff and being creative. Man I wish I could go back there
Love U Zen been watching you since you were little on YT you've honestly made me into a hell of a lot better producer. You don't get enough credit homie keep on making gucci content!
This is great, man. I've been working every day in the real world but I've been putting in atleast 30 mins a night on the music. Doesn't matter what kind of progress. If I'm inspired I write. Or, I'll work on a mix, or adding automation and editing midi notes to make things less static. as long as progress is being made I feel good.
This is probably the most important producer video I’ve seen in a while! Some of it comes from depression. Best thing for me is to take a break, go exercise or do something active. Also My work space is a huge factor. If You have a off day, work on creating Melody’s,Drum loops and new drum sounds ect. That way you’re still being productive. Be careful, you can burn yourself out. It’s about balance.
maaaan. You make the best content. Really practical, down to earth shit, and at the same time awesome modern/classic sounds & trends crash courses. Really valuable shit. Really appreciate you.
Probably the most important videos on your channel for people with big dreams and perhaps no energy to chase them. It’s like going to the gym because you don’t want to go because of the travel time etc, but you will feel good when you’re done.
Yea I stopped making music in 2010 due to family losses. I’m now back in full swing. I appreciate all you’re doing Zen. You’re a huge inspiration for me. In a matter of a couple months I’ve come a really long way and am back on track 🙏
This video came in at the right time. I've been off from Producing for I think 2 months (due to stuff IRL) and I can't get back to it due to procrastination afterwards. This sparked my motivation back.
You ave convinced me just now to finally start Youtubing and not take myself (and others) THAT seriously. I bought the equipment a while ago but I was (not so) unconsciously stalling. So thanks much, man. I aim to have my first video out by August 30th. Cheers!
Thanks zen for the reliably quality content over the years! You've really inspired me and helped me become a much much better producer than I was in the beggining. Thank you
Bruhh you just motivated me, yeah I feel very lazy lately making music, guess what it's been a years now me as RIJLER doesn't have any new music, now time to get back active, very helpful words man. Appreciate.
im not gonna lie to you I been lazy for like two months like that man its just theres other aspects where keeping a balance is hard but im really glad you posted this thank you.
good vid, i exactly have this problem. I started in 2003, my first track was directly nr 1, second as well, as third, fourth nr 2 and so on. Released for 6 record labels at the same time, played around the world, then i got tired of it during early 2010's and now i feel i want to make music again but now i have a strange combination of fear to be not that good anymore + i am never happy of the stuff i do anymore, probably it is as good as it was because i can make music but i'm just in a vicious circle. i will try to get out of it.
It’s hard at first but once you learn the basics, it’s almost like the track flows out of you. Even if the song is trash haha. I went from making a track every two weeks to almost making 2 tracks a week. Everything with practice and doing it over and over, the quality will start to get better over time.
Great video. I have times where I doubt myself & start procrastinating but I always have that inner voice saying "don't you dare give up". I'm also gonna start having piano lessons from UA-cam tutorials then that way I'm working towards music, bettering myself & it's something to achieve to keep giving me that confidence. Thanks for your tips, very helpful 👍
Thanks Frankie, this is exactly the phase I've been in for months now. Started to push through it since this week with a one hour/day goal for myself. Really needed to hear I'm not the only one and on the right path, thanks for the motivation
i also stopped confusing my "laziness" with being "uninspired". I used to be in the studio everyday and write shit id never release, make tracks that were completely bogus and mediocre, basically just make plain shit. But other days i made shit i wanted to show the world. I noticed whenever i was making shit music i felt really lazy to work because i was uninspired. If im acting lazy in the studio, im obvously uninspired at the moment. So i just instead turn off alll socials and go look for new music, listen to new things, and find somehting that sparks my inspiration again. Now ill only write music only if im inspired instead of forcing myself (makes it more fun that way) and other days where im feeling musical but not in a mood to make anything, ill search for music.
Once I got a car and started working on it I became a lot less motivated but hearing better artists in my genre makes me want to release more material and reassert my relevance! Also I've been stood up before in a collab and it's not fun :(
I find that if I'm unmotivated its very hard to be creative, so I do admin tasks like going through presets I haven't listened to and organizing the ones I like, which can inspire me to make something new. There will 100% be times when your not enjoying being in the studio, when you've tried to make a good bass for hours and aren't getting the results, that's just part of the journey so don't feel guilty. Music production from my experience is very much a roller coaster of high and lows. Just don't let the lows keep you from persevering :)
I was going through this same shittt wtf... Strange.... stopped producing for so many weeks bored coz i dont have that same energy which i had before on producing...but yeah when i turned on my net saw the notification of your video ... What a coincidence . its true i am scared to fail 😞😞😞 but i love you papi ... You always motivate me back to music life
One of your BEST videos, its one thing sitting here & watching you make music, its another thing getting my ass into Ableton & doing it myself.. Thank You dude..
Man,you touched some of the key points which I'm going through currently in my journey. And being aware of this, makes me feel like I CAN CONQUER IT ! you know what, the respect what I had towards you has totally been increased today. Thanks a lot,man for teaching us so many things ! Also,I recently learnt that working towards your goals ,just a little step EVERYDAY ,is gonna be your biggest move in the long run. I hope this little tip helps someone in here :)
I started making music recently and found one day I completed one track, I would possibly come up something new or better to improve it the next day, and that means my previous one was failed. Because of that, I kept deleting my tracks on soundcloud and reupload new version, and even subscribed to get the replace file function. Does that mean that I failed all my previous versions? Maybe, but I am definitely learning something and getting better, and that is the win part that help you fail less in the future. SO JUST DO IT!!!!
Paused this video in the middle just to comment this. I really needed this man! I could relate to this so much. Time to get things done. Thank you Zen World.❤️
Zen, do you consider to make a community like you said? I mean, bring people together to make music, a group on facebook or something like this. You don't have to be there, but having your support in this most practical way.
This is so helpful thank you! I've been in a "funk" recently because I've been thinking that there's so much to learn with music production but I'm still pushing through it because I really do love music! 😁
yo I'm lazy but at learning, cus if I see a tips video and a funny one I decide to watch the funny one instead, idk why the heck I'm like that but after this I guess I'm obligating myself, as well as producing more music, thanks for this video, I really needed it.
This is a great video and I agree with most of the points. However, I'd have to disagree that you can get over anything by "just" powering through. Especially talking about the first type you mentioned, I had "musical depression" for one and a half years, where everytime I tried to power through and just sit down and produce, I would hate everything I did eventually (and by eventually I mean often after only minutes). The only thing getting me out of this was a change in perspective then, because powering through just didn't cut it. Even though it didn't work for me, it might help others in a similar situation nonetheless. Again: Great video, keep it up.
Yeah the thing is that it's usually about getting to a certain skill level and developing a great sound as a result of many years in the studio. Ace Aura is a great example.
Finally a good, valuable UA-cam recommendation. I'm coming from a different genre (Trap/Rap Instrumentals) but this is what actually is happening to me, so I needed this. Thank you for sharing this! By the way, the video is uploaded on my 24th birthday, so I guess it's a sign for me to stop being lazy and make something big this year.
The quality of your content has been sick recently! Really really useful. I'm pretty sure at some point over the next few years, you would have inadvertently have influenced a top top producer. Keep it up man!
thanks a lot for the video, now i know that you dont have to do everything at once, yyou can work each part of the track you making and dont get frustrated. Saludos Zen! Espero hagas mas contenido de Techno!
a lot of people need this one.
agreeeeeeeeeeeed.
Indeed
u said it mate, its a life battle.
Such facts
Hey! Julien! Shouldn't you be working?
Shutting the phone off is key 🔐. This video came at good timing. I’ve been lazy lately. We back 💪💪💪💪
And disconnect ur laptop/PC from the internet.

I do that too but recently I've found that if you listen to your song too many times it starts to become harder to think about it objectively
yeah, should do that too (again). I kinda lost that habit. Thanks for reminding me off this simple method to stay in the loop. thumbs up
That's exactly what I do. Works well.
This is more important than any other Music Production tutorial...
Dont be afraid to upload Zen you're honestly one of the best tutorial makers i've seen on UA-cam. just upload it !!
Looking back through some of your old projects can also be a good source of inspiration because you may find something like a melody or a sound that you like that you probably wouldn’t have known about
You are the driving force for me....keep doing good work...💕💕💕❤❤
Love it, I strive to make music every day monday - friday for 2 hours. Its part of my daily routine!
Zen is on fucking point guys. One of the most important thing is to turn off all the social media around yourself, it will truly increase the creativity.

Probably the most important videos on your channel for people with big dreams and perhaps no energy to chase them. It’s like going to the gym because you don’t want to go because of the travel time etc, but you will feel good when you’re done.
That track in the backround is soooo smooth... luvin it.
Ignore the haters, I think you're great. You guys who make tutorials are the heroes of the internet. Thanks for your help, Zen!
I will follow my dreams and make them come true.
Thank you for all your effort and videos
ngl, Zen World, your content is fuckn amazing. If I had money i'd donate to your channel in a heart beat for the constant gems you been putting on YT
Your a good guy Sam, fuck the haters, thanks for the Inspiration, had a shit day myself today with production. 🤯
Yea I stopped making music in 2010 due to family losses. I’m now back in full swing. I appreciate all you’re doing Zen. You’re a huge inspiration for me. In a matter of a couple months I’ve come a really long way and am back on track 🙏

Broooo I listened to old files and I got some pretty sick chord progressions. I'll start working on a new track. Thanks G!
Thanks for adding some hope into my studio world.
It’s hard at first but once you learn the basics, it’s almost like the track flows out of you. Even if the song is trash haha. I went from making a track every two weeks to almost making 2 tracks a week. Everything with practice and doing it over and over, the quality will start to get better over time.
If you always do something only when you feel like it,you will never feel like doing anything..love from Kenya. Thanks!
Great video. I have times where I doubt myself & start procrastinating but I always have that inner voice saying "don't you dare give up". Thank you friend. I have been procrastinating and putting off my talent for too long. I am getting goosebumps right now.
watching this at 8 am made me work for 6 hours after I wasn't motivated at all
thank you
Thanks a lot bruv for putting this up. Could relate to all the points.
like half of all producers need this talk.
Once I got a car and started working on it I became a lot less motivated but hearing better artists in my genre makes me want to release more material and reassert my relevance! Also I've been stood up before in a collab and it's not fun :(

Really a good channel, thanks for your efforts and for these beautiful videos 👍🏻
In my humble opinion, best video of your channel. Congrats, you are 100÷ right
Thank you.
read somewhere today: "It takes 15 years to become an overnight success." keep grinding!
Yeah the thing is that it's usually about getting to a certain skill level and developing a great sound as a result of many years in the studio. Ace Aura is a great example.
A guy asked me how to get to Carnegie Hall. I told him practice, lot's of practice.
awesome video man.. im guilty of this too....
You can't stop me. I'm so lazy, I added this to watch later.
Thank you!
I didn’t know I needed this until I watched it. Thanks for the amazing tips and love dude!
Thank you for this really valuable information. I've never heard anyone discussing this issue
Excellent video - some great tips there
Finally a good, valuable UA-cam recommendation. I'm coming from a different genre (Trap/Rap Instrumentals) but this is what actually is happening to me, so I needed this.
