I'm a male Aikidoist. Been training for 6 years total and the best training partners that I've had are 1.) high ranking male practitioners and 2.) women. Yes, women in Aikido give even the most testosterone pumped guys a run for their money. Most martial arts were made for smaller/weaker people overcoming bigger adversaries - so women being good at Aikido is a no brainer. And for the guys here who want sandwiches from women - man the fuck up and make your own damn sandwich.
When I visited japan for aikido, we met a female practitioner who had the most amazing style I've seen, it was incredibly strong, but wierdly enough also incredibly soft. One would enter the technique and then you'd be on the floor and you never even felt the transition. No male I have trained with has ever come close to that.
@Aiki Mann : in Jujitsu, Judo and Aikido we uses mat in practice, to reduce injuries. Even on the mat there are sometimes broken bones, minor injuries and dislocation. Do u really think people should start practicing on cement floor, genius?
Aikido is one of the (extremely few) martial arts where women are better than men. Namely, it heavily involves beauty, grace, and agility vis-à-vis strength, speed, and strategy. While in nearly all fighting styles, it 's all about overpowering and subduing an opponent, aikido is far more concerned with the smooth, elegant flow of bodily motions. Long story short, a boy may be *stronger* than a girl, but he'll never be *as beautiful* as a girl.
Ladies and gentlemen, The mat IS NOT reality. It is one thing to work out on the mat with a cooperative partner; it's yet another thing to defend against someone who really intends to hurt you. To "prove yourself" on the mat means nothing. She really sounds like fighting and inferiority complex.
Thank you for posting this. Claire is an amazing aikido teacher.
