I changed the latch thanks to this video and another one on YT. I could not get past removing the rear wiper arm, which was stuck. Therefore, the black trim with the logo remained in place. I managed to wiggle part of the old handle out of the hole where it normally rests when screwed in place, but the internal part of the handle (the crook part) was stuck as the gap it has to go through is a tad too small. I ended up using small pliers that I use for electricity and electronics works to cut through the internal metal sheet and bend it just enough to remove the handle. Once this was done, the entire installation was over in less than 5 minutes. If I ever have to change this handle on another Fit/Jazz, it would be over in less than 10 minutes. If it wasn't some clips breaking when either removing or putting back the interior trim, I would deem the operation simple and easy. Thanks a lot for this video.

Two bits of possibly helpful info on top of this
    1) Taking off the wiper motor gives you better access to the clips, its only 3 bolts, so easy to do
    2) When its cold you are more likely to break plastic. If you have to do it when its cold out, try using a heat gun around where the clips are (don't melt them)

Thank you so much for this video! I just changed the rusted latch by following your instructions. Besides being terrified that I would snap some piece off, it went smoothly.

Had a really tough time getting the wiper arm off, but ran out to get a Tie Rod End Puller for $15.99 at Advance Auto and it did the trick.

Thank you for the tutorial. I switched out the new part in 30 mins. I got the Honda part and installed it for under $80. Firestone was going to charge an absurd amount of money.

While, not a Yaris owners problem, the Fit/Jaz does perform and handle much better, yes pun intended.
So will perform this repair, but instead of giving Honda a cent of money to replace a component that wasn't properly durable from the start (again, not a Yaris owners problem) will simply clean and apply waterproof dry lubricant to the original part.
    Another great video guys.

Trying to pop those clips to release the tailgate garnish (aka the logo trim/handle cover) was a huge pain. Broke a few clips and busted off a tab from the back of the garnish. Do everything you can to pop this clips or you'll have to reinstall the garnish with fewer fasteners keeping it tight to the body.

Can we do something to stop future rust? Grease or something?

Great video, thanks! I wasnt able to get the wiper off without fear of snapping it so I left it on and jimmied the latch through the gap of loose black plate. I got a few small scratches, but hey the cars 15 years old and im no professional mechanic.

Open the hole with a chisel just enough for the latch to slide out with out removing the trim and wiper. Then hammer the pin out, grind it down and wire wheel. Enlarge holes in the plastic handle part with drill bit. Grind sides of handle also. Reassemble with anti seize. Hammer the ends so they don't slip through mushroom it out a bit. Done feels like new will never rust up again. If it does ,it wouldn't get stuck because now everything is sloppy enough.

See if you can push the handle in toward the car before you close the door. This works for me, it's hard to do since all the rust but it might be worth a shoot

I had to buy a jumpstart power pack due to this. Now I just pop the hood and unhook the negative from the battery - because this hatch issue is also causing my alarm to go off randomly and run the battery down that way too. It’s SUPER FUN and is making my loads of friends in neighbouring apartments when it honks all night long. 🤨

There is one philips screw holding in the honda face plate. Look around the 3 minute mark. It is a metal scrrew ( philips)that screws into a plastic honda name plate.
