    This is just the beginning of a new growing season, so you'll have to start looking for fresh fruits and vegetables come Summer and Fall. Stop at those roadside stands you see in and near towns. Fresh vine ripe food is always a treat! Enjoy your 2022 travels everywhere you go.

    Wow! So much color in this video. The sky and mountains, the wild flowers, (for which we thank you for showing us), the bruschetta. I’ll be honest though I could eat that stuff strait from the bowl with a spoon! Roadsides and medians really are their own ecosystems and often unique. Good to see your work is paying off with some sponsorship. A VPN really is the only way to go. The clips of your friends left me thinking that you’ve met some good people in your travels. You know, they say that you are lucky if you find one good friend in a lifetime. Are you lucky?

    First time commenter, long time subscriber just popping in to say I love your videos. Your energy is something I crave when meeting new people/making new friendships. By this time next year I hope to also be living my dream through van life. Your videos, (along with Sarah, Anna, Mariah, and so many other solo female van lifers that I’ve had the pleasure of finding their channels through your guys’ friend circle and videos) inspire and uplift me, especially on my worst days. Thank you guys for introducing me to all the highs and lows of van life and being so real in your videos. ❤️

    Interesting seeing you pull over and show off the desert blooming. I grew up in the northeastern Mojave desert. I was working overseas doing natural resources conservation and found a book on ornamentals in tropic to subtropic zones. I used this book for most of my field Id's and one afternoon read the about the author blurb in the back, and he talked about growing up near Death Valley, well I immediately emailed him and asked if he was from Trona (my hometown) and he actually was! So I guess my point is how the delicate, fragile wisps of wildflowers blooming in the stark landscape of the desert could inspire Art to become the leading expert on tropical ornamentals just blows my mind. As do you in your own little, yet impressive ways. Thanks for sharing what you do.

    Real talk, Maddie, honestly .. Fighting with loss in the family in the last couple of years. Fighting depression and fighting for what I feel Is just a normal life again. Sleep is a problem for me, and I am having super long nights. And watching someone go on a journey / adventure and being so kind to share that with us. It is a treasure and an experience. Thank you for doing so, and making my late nights calm and comfortable. I draw motivation out of it to wake up and focus on what makes me happy. Even if that is taking the time to wash some dishes, grind some beans and make a coffee, sit in the park to enjoy the warm fall days. And come home again to start the day. It springs hope that taking a step back in life is actually taking a step forward. Your different point of view in life, as well as your hobbies, interests, they truly give me food for thought. Something I can consider doing myself. For example, picking up writing and drawing again. As well as hour long walks. Thank you for allowing me and others to explore the world outside of our little bubble. I've recently started watching your videos, and I am looking forward to the next batch.

    What you said about filling time vs losing time was really powerful. It's something that makes me understand that you know dissociation. It's so rare to hear anyone speak to my experience. You are worth it. I've got your back as much as I am able. Thanks for you. I love you several. I hope we meet someday on a day where I can deal and be my best self and you also can deal and be your best self. You are worth it.

    Your content is always so soothing to watch. I play it while I’m working because it helps me relax and focus. Thank you for sharing your life with us!
    I make a similar salad to the one you made at the 12 min mark, frequently. I use cucumbers, cherry or grape tomatoes, fresh lemon juice, salt and pepper, vegan mozzarella cheese, and a super delish vinaigrette called Sun Dried Tomato Vinaigrette by Kraft. It’s seriously to die for!!!
    Again, I love your content. Thanks for sharing with us so often! Your van is absolutely stunning and so are you, as a person, overall! P.s. hearing you sing/hum The Sounds of Silence did me IN. That was “my dad’s song” and my entire family still sings it all the time!

    One of my favorite things when travel camping is botanizing and photography. Also, for me anyway, finding rare and unusual flowers. I found a bunch of native orchids one time. Also, the way I fight lonliness, is to, yeah this is corny, but, commune with nature. Make friends with the world around you. Be thankful for all you are getting to experience. Know that life is awesome.

As I contemplate my trip out west (from Virginia) in the Fall I look forward to the same type of adventures that will, no doubt, fill my soul with the wonder of exploration. I won't be as physical though as I'm 70 and can't hike as much as I used to...but that's OK as I can still enjoy the ride and the different scenery. I want to dig for crystals too! :) Be safe out there!

    You explain the transition from oneness to the dance with others, with its intensity perfectly. It seems your connection with other van lifers is so deeply connected when you meet others on the road, that I can image leaving might very much feel like the tearing of your skin. • @kengelina
    @kengelina 2 роки тому +12

    The bloops though - “it’s okay, there’s a big shoulder” 😂 That bruschetta looks so delicious. It’s really interesting hearing vanlifers talk about how jarring it is to shift from traveling with people to traveling alone; the contrast shows in videos too. Do you ever experience that in reverse and find it jarring to adjust from time in solitude to time traveling with people? I find just in every day, non traveling life that it’s more jarring at times when I’ve had some time alone and suddenly I’m around people again. Just me though :)

    • @Maddie.taylor
      @Maddie.taylor  2 роки тому +5

      I do feel it, but the transition from solitude back into community isn't quite as painful for me... The most difficult part is when I find that I'm not getting enough alone time. I know how precious the time is with whomever I'm with. I know that I might not see them again anytime soon after we part. Because of that, I sacrifice being alone even when I might need it. I've been working on finding a better balance in this, though.
      Thanks for coming back each week, by the way :) Hope you are well.

    • @kengelina
      @kengelina 2 роки тому +1

      @@Maddie.taylor that makes total sense and must be the ongoing conundrum of vanlife - you meet up with people sporadically but for a week or so at a time and want to make the most of it, so naturally give up your personal recharge time to do so. I think what can make that easier (from my travels as an introvert travelling with other introverts) is having a dialogue with them about it. Like “I’m loving your company so much, I want to spend as much time together as possible while we’re here, but I’m also hella introverted so I might take a short walk with my dog and do some journaling, but we could meet back here for dinner?” Etc. The beautiful thing about vanlifers is so many are introverts, so they probably feel the exact same haha. I’m glad you’re finding a balance that works for you though! Thanks for sharing your lovely adventures with us every week :)

    I totally understand what you mean by going from being with loved ones to being alone. It's like there a void in your heart that just isn't to be filled. Please God you'll soon see Sarah again.
    That image at 4:40 was heartbreaking and it brought me back to when I emigrated from the USA leaving my loved ones behind though I knew I'd see them again and I have many times and I've also found a great life for myself here in the Caribbean. But I'm glad you spent time in that first after she left because it got you to experience both sides of the same coin and to show you that yes you can do it and yes you can adapt. It's almost like being there with her and being there without her showed you can you can cherish loved ones and you can also cherish yourself. It's not a matter of either being with others or being alone. It's a matter of being with others and being alone. Both experiences are sacred and wondrous, both are part of yourself, both are to be cherished. I've learned to cherish the times with my American family and the times with my boyfriend and Caribbean significant others in my church and community and the times alone. I wouldn't want to not have any one of those three elements and each one helps me appreciate the others.
    Yes to the mall, brittlebush, lupine. The fliers are like the experiences. They compliment each other.
    7:05. Love that bridge!!!!
    7:22 Love the lake !!!!!
    7:41. Ok what's she cooking????? Aaah! Bruschetta!!!!! We have a little Italian community where I live and they make it. Yum!
    Absolutely love all your crystals and stones. And the jewelry!
    Nice fresh tomatoes!!!!! That bruschetta is gonna be goooooood!!!!!
    I had a potted basil plant once way back when I was....well around your age. But I couldn't bring myself to take its leaves off to cook with because I loved that plant so much. And then caterpillars grew on them and the plant died. Maybe I should have taken off leaves to cook with.
    Hip hip hooray for the delicious bruschetta!!!!!!
    13:44 and 14:00. You look absolutely gorgeous when you look at that camera with that sort of 3/4 view that show the expressiveness of your eyes whose exact color I still haven't figured out.

    Maddie the content in your videos is amazing, the flowers were beautiful and the food looked amazing. Your channel is different than all the others and in a good way. Keep being yourself, don’t let anything or anybody change you or what you are about. 🙂 all ready looking forward to next week……

    I liked your comment at the end, "There's a thunderstorm going on", That's Arizona (I think that's where you are), there are times of weird weather here. Stay safe Maddie! (Maddie was my mom's name...: )

    Maddie , you're never alone. You have Eliza with you.
    I'd rather be with my dog, and with nature, then any human being. Just saying....✌🏼❤️🌱

    I would love to go somewhere where no one else is around. I’ve worked as a nurse for a long time and I can tell you if I didn’t see a soul for many years it would still be not long enough. Seize the day whilst blood and soul are still young. 👍

    I often wondered what I would do after retirement and now I know. It's very much like what you do in alone time -- I reflect.
    I've come to realize that I'm not the nice person I always thought I was, and that I've selfishly hurt a lot of people, in spite of my thinking that I was doing otherwise. Trying to repair the damage (which honestly is unrepairable) and treating others better has become my method of dealing with these intrusive thoughts because it's all I can do -- but it doesn't seem enough.

    Hi Maddie, been alone in my tiny house in the Sierra mountains since the beginning of the bat plague. The only time I get to see anyone is once a month for a food delivery and to have my porta potty serviced. I have a natural spring coming out of the rocks in the hillside. I only have two donkeys and cat to talk to. I play guitar and have a 1/10 scale crawler radio control truck that keeps me entertained and watching UA-cam videos. I have lots of fresh Miner's Lettuce for salads and Stinging Nettle for tea and a one mile hike to a small lake for fresh trout. Not anti social be no means, but the virus put me in the best situation ever.

    Hi Maddie and Eliza, really enjoy your videos....very soon i will be taking to the road in my van....finally mostly all done.
    I'm not as hard core as you and certainly not as organised as you. I will be doing just a week or two here and there whenever i feel the need to escape from normality. I may even do some wild swimming in Scotland on Loch Ness, i love the wilds of Scotland, i guess it's a mini version of Canada but we don't have any bears in the UK...or moose, or polar bears, and the only venomous snake we have is the Adder, and that can't kill you , it's like being stung by a bee. Unfortunately i will not have my best pal with me...my dog Jack who passed away from Leaukemia.....It will be a challenge to see if i can cope with the loneliness but watching your blogs i have learned some coping strategies. I love your travel companion Eliza, she is beautiful and when she looks at you it's with love every time. Enjoy watching your Bloops too....makes me smile.
    Both of you look after each other and thank you for making these videos. David xx
