    Thanks for the real-life tests. Mb pro 16" i9 has enough power for all my design and video editing needs, but what annoys me about it - is the 3 hour battery life, and what it gets hot and noisy under load. So I'm thinking of upgrading to an m3 pro or m2 max.

      Same here, I have the maxed out i9 Mb pro. I do a lot of video editing and I also work a lot of with AI. At the moment the Intel Mac is alright for my workload, I just wish I had more RAM. I’d say wait for one more generation. There is also quite a serious physical bug in all M series Mac that allows for side channel attacks. I’d wait for Apple to address and fix it first before buying an M series Mac.

      I did the upgrade from same machine to m3 max…..and it’s amazing. Not one regret! New machine doesn’t overheat, and handles every task with ease!

    The Intel laptops are next to unusable. IDK how we ever suffered with them, the tech feels like it's from the 90s now. Mine's on my lap right now, it's a literal space heater and the battery lasts a few hours at best. The whole thing is hot to the touch just watching UA-cam. The M1 I have never even spins up the fans unless I'm cranking out some hardcore processor-intensive work.

    Did you run any other tests between the 2 macs. Also was that the m3 pro or max ?

      M3 Pro, I did and they were much the same results. Thermal throttling hurt the Intel Mac in almost every circumstance and the times that it didn’t the M3 Pro still completed the tasks quicker.

    Hey I am getting 2019 MacBook pro at 16gb ram and 1tb ssd i9. At 600 usd. With adaptor. Do you think it's worth it? I will be using mac for the first time in life and was using i7 8 gen windows. Main purpose is to learn coding and ultimately develop skills into machine learning. Kindly reply quickly.

      Should do you perfectly fine. For a first Mac I’d say it’s a good purchase because you can swap to windows and have full compatibility if you decide macOS isn’t for you. To introduce you to the Mac ecosystem I’d say it’s worth it.

      The Intel is a 2019. Apple in their keynote was really trying to sell the M3 to those that haven’t already moved from Intel to Apple Silicon, so thought I’d display the difference in performance. I doubt anyone expected the i9 to actually beat the M3.

I have been always fashinating by the 2019 with touchbar you have. I found it for 1k euro alternatively there is the M3 MAX for 4k. I'd like to know more... can please tell me more? Thanks!!!

    OH WHAT A SURPRISE! You mean the latest and greatest mac outperformed something that is 5 years old?? You mean a $2500 brand new machine outperfromed a $700 used one?? C'mon dude...

      If you believe that there was genuine thought that an M3 Pro would be slower than the Intel Mac then you most likely missed the point of the video.

    I’ve still got and daily use my mid-2018 i9. I’ve been wanting an M chip since the M1 was revealed but am very against replacing something perfectly ok unless it’s truly needed, and for me it wasn’t. But I was astonished by the M3 when I tried out an M3 at an Apple Store in December or so. I almost upgraded right then and there. But waited, then the M4 was put into the iPads for some reason.
    It’s without question I’m getting the M4 when it comes out. Period. I’ve been sparing with my money so that there’s no struggle. My i9 is constantly still getting warm when I’m simply running more than a couple tabs on Safari, and getting hot and battery drained when I’m running an actual program like Photoshop. I’m too excited to make that switch in 2 months and have an Apple Silicon on my desk.

      I can say without a doubt the biggest improvement from the i9 to the M3 was the temperatures. I still to this day don't recall the fans ever having to kick into high gear like they did on the i9 when doing any task. The machine just isn't thermally efficient. You'll love swapping to the M4 when it comes out.
      I'm in the same boat as you, I'm not one to replace stuff either, (I'm still using a bent iPhone 12 with the screen shattered from dropping a weight on it haha) but the M3 simply was too good to pass up and when doing rendering and working with cinema camera footage, it's a beast.

    thanks for the video! I'm about to throw my 2019 intel mb pro to get an m3 pro and this helps a lot. however I'm extremely disappointed with the results. considering apple's claim with x11 more performance '2 years ago', in a real world usage (illustration, animation, video editing) its just 2-3 times at most, and keep in mind older mb thermal throttles in 15 seconds and runs at 0.8 ghz at most.. if only I didn't have to use a macbook😕

    • @eternaliam
      @eternaliam  3 місяці тому

      No problem! Also yea I agree, the only measure I can see the M3 Pro providing 11x more performance over the i9 is the battery life under load or in performance per watt. As far as raw computing goes, the Intel isn't nearly that slow, but the thermal throttling kills it.

    (Also, what about GPU-intensive tasks like gaming/game dev/CG/Archi Viz.)? Did you mention what GPU your i9 has? Do you know/care what a diff that makes?

    • @eternaliam
      @eternaliam  4 місяці тому

      Game support at the time of making this video for Apple Silicon was incredibly sparse and was unable to create a true Apples to Apples comparison. I did talk about the GPU's and the difference it makes. I'm not sure if you skipped that part but it was one of the opening things I talked about with both computers.
