So happy to see Gene laughing! She was always beautiful during each period of her life! She had such a wonderful personality! Rest in Peace, Gene. We miss you so much for sure!
I am STILL in love with Gene Tierney!
She did prevail after a harrowing time period, became stable , had a loving, understanding second husband and went on with her life. As somebody who also has suffereed from mental illness I know its not easy but with a managment plan you can WIN!
Fantastic actress and extremely beautiful.
Rest in Peace, Gene. We miss you.
This Is so beuatiful, not only Gene but the contestants where switched on and having fun..
yes, a terribly sad story..and still we remember her today for her astonishing elegance, style, beauty and wonderful acting ability...
One of the most beautiful and classy women ever to grace this good earth.
So lovely and elegant, Gene Tierney. Sad that she suffered. RIP Beautiful.
We all suffer.
The most exquisite beauty ever in a motion picture. Laura-- what a great film .
I love to watch this time after time Gene was such a beauty and so refined..
Yes your guess is right I too am grateful, when I think of how things can go so terribly wrong for people in so many ways across all walks of life.
Bless her heart, she was handed a lot more than any human being should have to handle!
You're very kind. Peace and happiness back atcha!
Thank you for posting this video it is wonderful to see Gene as herself that beautiful smile, so softly spoken, gentle and yet like a frightened captive bird, at times you can see it in her eyes. WHAT IS A BOBBY SOXER
When I first saw "Laura", I thought, "This is the most beautiful actress who ever lived". I gasped when she first appeared on the screen. Since then, I've changed my mind any number of times, but she was incredibly beautiful in that movie. It's so sad that a decade later she was having a troubled life. What's My Line often brought stars that had disappeared from view back on to the national stage, at least for a few minutes.
Striking Beautiful Lady Ever.. ❤❤❤❤
I was madly in love with Gene after seeing "Laura". Named my oldest daughter after the movie and the song.
I'll never forget her in "Leave Her to Heaven". What a beauty she was.
My favorite Gene Tierney movie is Leave Her to Heaven followed by The Mating Game.
@@nicolevaldes8891 I think you mean The Mating Season. Great movie. Laura is probably my favorite Gene Tierney movie.
I wanna shout through the screen, "Ernie! Don't buy that Corvair!"
She was just gorgeous !
Thank you! :) I just rented that movie and haven't gotten to watch it yet.
Just beautiful
My favorite movie with her is The Ghost and Mrs. Muir so romantic
I have been an avid supporter of you tube, and now I feel rewarded, this piece of memoribela of Gene is enough for' Gene is so beautiful and poised we need not see more...
So well said and expresses my own sentiments exactly. Thank you.
There were ladies and gentlemen back then, without swearing in the movies. Life was so much more pleasant when they made really good movies for all to watch.
Gene almost won the Oscar for Best Actress in 1945 for "Leave Her to Heaven."
Exactamundo. Should also won for Razor's Edge and Laura.
Nope. Nominated, but never won.
Nope
God she was beautiful. She would be 38 yrs old in this clip? People forget she was a broadway star having appeared in four Broadway shows before going to Hollywood.
Gene Tierney is so beautiful ! Forever ! and she is with the angels since 1991 ! she's in Heaven ! Forever ! see you soon Gene Tierney !
Look at that smile! One my favorites actresses from the Golden Era of Hollywood! She was a skilled and talented actress with stunning elegance and beauty who could convey so much with just her eyes. She also overcame a lot. I read that Humphrey Bogart (my favorite male actor from that era) offered her support during her mental health struggles.
Thank you for your reply,I guess it was an Americian term,Gene had such poise and elegance and yet a hidden depth, dignity, and courage..one day I will make the trip to where Gene rests and maybe leave a rosebud of pale hue with just a hint of green coming true.Once again myy thanks.
I've always wanted to see Gene's television appearances. The strain is visible on her face but she's is as always, strikingly beautiful. Thanks for posting.
Yes, she was having a hard time of it--but she prevailed with the right treatment and a loving second husband----
All class.
Excellent. :)
Loved Gene Tierney in Heaven Can Wait. Really brought out her beautiful blue eyes. Leave her to Heaven was also a good one.
They were actually emerald green!
class all the way----
@HAPPYTHELEAF ~ thanks for reminding me, it's on my book list now.
Beautiful and so talented. I adored her
You might think that Ernie hasn't got a clue and is just being a fool with him comments early on. Then all of a sudden, he gets insight that none of the panel was even close to figuring out. Nice job of turning things around Ernie!
I just love the work by Clara Bow. She's one of my fav. actresses of the silent era. I wish that she could have transitioned into "talking pictures".
@HAPPYTHELEAF Wonderfully written! Gene was not only gorgeous, talented but a class act! Her life was quite sad, her daughter Daria was born with severe autism, her husband Oleg cheated on her left and right and she suffered a nervous breakdown, but she found happiness with her last marriage. RIP Gene and thank you for the films!!!!!
Just to say (thirteen years on) that as a matter of fact: 'Antoinette Daria Cassini was born prematurely in Washington, DC, weighing three pounds two ounces (1.4 kg) and requiring a total blood transfusion. The rubella caused congenital damage: Daria was deaf, partially blind with cataracts, and severely mentally disabled. She was institutionalized for much of her life.' This is not 'severe autism'. Other aspects of your comment are covered in: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gene_Tierney
I hope you are well and in good fettle. Robert, uk.
1971, three weeks after my 15th birthday.
@dellotti She did do an interview in 1985, around 30 years after this appearance, looking and sounding so well and still with the smile preserved. She had her ups and downs, like all of us, but her lows were very acute. Here's the link for anyone who might be interested...

@jhn128 but who could they invite today? we don't have stars like that anymore, so decent and intelligent.
That is very well said. I love Frost. No matter which is worse, there are many many people in this world who live in abject nightmares, I am grateful for my relatively peaceful, free life, I'm guessing you are too.
Gene eyes were Emerald Green, though they appeared blue in some photograph's
a talent and a star
Ms. Tierney was wonderful in ,
The Ghost and Mrs. Muir 1947.
Check her out here on UA-cam in "Dragonwyck", a mid-nineteenth century Gothic drama set in the Hudson River valley that has aged surprisingly well unlike many similar pictures
@mickyblue247 Just recently saw that movie myself--absolutely loved it. Gene is so beautiful is hurts.
I have always loved Claras talking films, watch as many early talkies you can find, it was a small miracle anyone survived , it took a super power to survive until the technology improved... by 1932 it was again a working art... Clara was ruined emotionaly by the crued harsh work of 29 and 30,
She's incredible.
Hard to know which is worse, having a father who is no good or being abandoned by one who did not care enough to stay, though having said that I'm reminded of Frosts poem ''the road less taken'' sometimes one's character is all the better for adversity.
I agree Addie, Genes pain somehow is there though,, but when Gene laughs it is wonderful to see Gene happy that is..
"All I can think of is Myrna Loy"
"I've thought of her, at times...." ha ha ;P
Gene in The Ghost and Mrs Muir !!
I really believe seeing her in this movie formed, in my mind, what I now believe to be beauty in a woman.
when I think of myrna loy or gene tierney I become very very interested!
I get a kick out of this show---it blows away all of today's junk with its wit and fun---
She was stunning
Underrated actress. She played the strength of a woman like few were able.
A class Act..
they had a show like this in Germany but there the star had to be absolutely silent and the talk show host would answer for her
Sounds as though you made a recovery, it's sad but true how little they learned from late 19 century through to the 20th and today we seem to be going backwards in our ability to help, I lost a loved one to such a barbaric treatment as Electric Shock Therapy as they so called it..it was really just experimentation..
@northernoir Well put...
Gene looks pretty here but a little off. I loved her in the movie "Laura". She was truly a beautiful woman. Her health issues cut her career short.
yeah, she does seem a bit off. but i guess regular electric shocks to the brain and severe depression would make anyone a bit off.
My mother worked on The Ghost and Mrs. Muir 1947 with Miss Tierney. Always sympathetic at our house.
A truly beautiful & extremely talented lady who went through hell having electric shock treatments JUST because she suffered with her nerves! I wouldn't do that to a Cow, never mind a human being. After that, she suffered for the rest of her life. What a cruel thing to do.
As sweet as Manuka honey and as elegant as the pure white lily...
About as gorgeous as any actress ever, but her life was a Greek tragedy.
Kilgallen would have been very aware who Gene was, especially after Kovacs' hint at Laura, as she wrote many articles about the stars of her time among other journalistic endeavours.
There really are all kinds of great, talented people that they could invite to a show like this today. However, given a society that would rather watch the likes of "Honey Boo Boo" and "Snooki", the show would likely be cancelled!
My favorite movie with mrs tierney is the ghost and mrs muir
Eli Wallach, Carol Channing,Doris Day,Sid Caesar, Rita Moreno,
Joan Collins, Angie Dickinson, Sean Connery ,Ursula Andress, could be added to the list that goes on.
Great shoulders. Great, great shoulders ...
the institute did the same thing to Clara Bow and for the rest of her life she hardly left her house... tragic concequences for people that needed help
If I should believe IMDB, this was her last ever apparance on television....(Not counting showing her movies or TV roles), but her being herself.
Unlike many other so-called fallen stars, she never did the usual round of being a special guest star in Fantasy Island, Columbo, Love Boat, Murder She Wrote or Magnum, but once in Scuples.back in 1980
What were the quotes from the Sacco and Vanzetti trial?
"Never in our full life could we hope to do such work for tolerance, for justice, for man's understanding of man as now we do by accident. Our words--our lives--our pains--nothing! The taking of our lives--lives of a good shoemaker and a poor fish-peddler--all! That last moment belongs to us--that agony is our triumph."
Good Lord!
I've never thought Gene Tierney was particularly attractive
mickey rooney is still alive, lauren bacall is still alive, olivia de havilland, kirk douglas, betty white, joan fontaine, peter fonda, maureen o'hara, doris day, jerry lewis, sidney poitier, etc. the list goes on!
xxcharmed1xx Well it’s five years later. Let’s refresh this: Olivia de Havilland Betty White, Doris Day, Kirk Douglas , Peter Fonda and Doris Day. Six out of the original eight still with us. Not bad!
@mickyblue247 I'm still madly in love with her, and i'm a girl!
After a reaction to make up on the set of Belle Starr in her book Self- Portrait Gene only wore lipstick and minimal eye just lashes if required.
They were actually a spectacular green but because of the the color strip thechnolgies they appear blue.
That is funny!
@tomitstube I would recommend that you get hold of,if you can, Genes' Autobiography ''Self Portrait'' Gene speaks frankly about the illness and events of a difficult period that had such a profound effect on Genes' life and career, which Gene faced with great courage to eventually find peace and happiness,at a time when mental health issue where taboo....
Not as many as one would want to.I'm pretty sure if such tv show existed nowadays it would be cancelled soon for lack of views.People are different today, and not in a good way.
@jhn128 I agree... It would be fun... They should use a voice scrambler if they make a new version
@tomitstube She didn't become a sales clerk it was part of her therapy while she was in hospital and the shock treatments would come after this appearance.
A fabulous babe and, though she tried to minimize it for this ruse, a gloriously sexy contralto of a voice!!
@jhn128 Because they actually would be busy watching American Idol or the X Factor; or they would feature z list celebrities. This is such a great show though!
@MrDublin56 How tragic...I wondered how he died...and so sad about daughter. He was very handsome and funny...Married to Edie Adams I think..
How long ago were you submitted to that place..
@franzy1 A thing of beauty is to be admired would you agree....and yes I could not have put it better grrrrrrrrrrrowllllll.......... .
Are you here for the opening of a picture?
"No, I just finished up a series of shock treatments and now on my way to the airport."
where you one of them addie
@jhn128 I'd love to see this program done today but there are only a handful of people with any class whatsoever. Who can you imagine would host and be on the panel?
i just love gene, too bad she had such an unhappy life...
say, i have a question: where did you get these what's my line clips??
Too late or too early,addie.
The other panelists are happy to string things out a bit to keep the mystery guest on for a while longer ... but not Dorothy! She will shamelessly take any hint and blurt out the answer as if she thought of it herself.
I just know she was THAT girl in class always with her hand up.
watch leave her to heaven, gene tierney is not her regular self. with cornel wilde great movie
