THANK YOU so much for including input lag for video games. I'm a gamer who prefers to play on projectors and I greatly appreciate knowing whether or not a particular projector will meet my needs. Again, thank you for including it in your review.
Our first projector goes all the way back to the early 80s, an Advent, I think the model was 701. I've heard that statement/question you used at the beginning about walking in-between the projector and the screen causing a shadow for many, many years. Well, here's the answer - what happens when someone walks between you and a regular TV? Either way, you can't see the image, whether it's between the projector and the screen or you and the screen of a regular TV, the outcome is the same. :)
Will be ordering right now. I got a kick out of your dry sense of humor. "Not everybody has a pair of white gloves like Michael Jackson"...delivered with a perfect straight face!

So, lifespan of this projector would be a function of chip or laser failure rather than any lamp failure common in most projectors? Any ideas on longevity at this point, or too soon?
25k hours to half brightness for the laser assembly. Dlp chip is supposed to not fail, but they did in Samsung and Mitsubishi sets .I have this projector in black and a Mitsubishi wd-82838, which the chip went bad and Mitsu replaced for free after I had had it for 5 years. I wanted to get your opinion about which projector i should get. I’ve been doing a lot of research I narrowed it down to two projectors in my price range. I am torn picking between The XGIMI Aurora 4K Ultra Short laser projector, The VAVA 4K Ultra Short Throw Laser TV or The Hisense 100 L5F laser TV. The Chiq B5u 4k UST laser projector is whisper quiet, came with English menus and I am about to finish the last boss in God of War on "give me a challenge" mode. It's a dream come true... laser UST with low input lag.
I'm stunned that a projector can create the kind of grays and blacks we see at 4:04 in the video. I mean, I get that it's in a totally dark room. But this is beyond what I thought a projector could do. I know the ALR screen is mainly a benefit when there's ambient light in the room, but is it also helping to achieve this degree of contrast? Or can other screens perform just as well in a dark room? I'm tempted to get an acoustically transparent screen, so I can put three big speakers behind it. But would I lose a lot of this contrast I like so much in this video?

Just a quick question about throw distance and room setup. Looking to get the VAVA projector along with a Vividstorm motorised floor rising screen. If my calculations are correct, to house this setup I would need an enormous entertainment unit that is 70 cm deep (this seems impractically enormous as it would take up half the living room!) Have I stuffed something up? My thinking was that the screen unit is 16cm deep, to achieve a 100inch screen size the VAVA has to sit 18cm away, then the VAVA unit itself is 36cm deep. 16+18+36 = 70cm. Is this right?
Anyone have problems with light bleed over on the vava? I am on my second vava and both of them have major light bleed over and vava has no solution for me other than to send it back again and get a replacement
I’ve always wondered with these short throw projectors, can you mount them on the ceiling and flip the image to keep the unit away from kids sticky fingers.
I saw you adjusting the HDR settings to compensate for the crushed blacks. Since that's kind of why Dolby Vision and HDR10+ use dynamic metadata, do you have any idea why none of the projector manufacturers are implementing those standards and seem to stick with HDR10 and at most use custom auto HDR adjustments (which are non-standard and thus have non-reproducable results)?
He did not adjust the HDR settings as you cannot actually do that. He set the RGB to Custom to calibrate the colors. This is called ISF calibration. HDR and Dolby Vision use tone map values from the content against the tone maps in the unit.
so refresh rate is fixed at 60hz? and no 3d? these *can be* solved by software, right? other than these *solvable problems, the specs and price (if I can keep it under $4k with a decent ALR screen) look like my ideal upgrade.

Thanks for a detailed and thorough review. Much appreciated. I do have two questions, though. Can this projector do 3D with active glasses? And 2, we have a gently curved screen. Will this projector have trouble with that...keeping focus across the entire screen? Optically, standard projectors have no problems with curved screens give that the most accurate focus is obtained when the lens is projecting to a surface where that surface is equidistant to all points of the image. That is always a curve. If you took a string and anchored it to the lens and then walked to the center of the screen, then walked to either side, the string would be to short to reach either end. If you scribed a the movement a line that traced the string's end points from the center to each end of the screen, it would form and arc, not a straight line. Focus would be perfect at all points across that arc. The reason an image on a flat screen stays in focus across that flat surface the focus on a flat screen is increasingly incorrect as the image gets farther from the center of the screen. I am not sure how this translates with a system like this. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
