Earp never described doc as a mad merry scamp with a heart of gold and nerves of steel . That was done by a newsman from the east who didn't like what earp said after doc had died . Earp said they were not my words and they don't describe doc . Earp said doc was MAD sure but never merry and his nerves could be so bad ( tuberculosis) he could be shakey to the point of being irritable to people around him he did nor prepare to be a gambler . He became a gambler because people did not like him coughing up blood ( tuberculosis yeah I know its spelled wrong ) while they had their mouths open all this comes from whyatt earp book by Stuart Lake that Stuart finished after whyatt died and he got most of it wrong . He said Morgan earp killed buffalo bill Brooks in Montana when brooks was hung by vigilantes for horse stealing
