I've been trying to learn more about the Settle to Carlisle Line (At least from Dent to Ais Gill), because of a Trainz Route named Hawes Junction, which shows the line from Dent through Garsdale, & Ais Gill to a fictional town named Wharton, with part the Hawes branch (just to Hawes).
Excellent video. This is one of the routes I would like to take when I visit UK (hopefully next year). I don't own this route in TS yet, but from your video I can see it is very scenic...so many viaducts!
Thanks! This is a route I've not yet travelled in reality myself but I would certainly love to do so! I can definitely recommend getting the route in TS :)
Really enjoyed this video, fascinating facts and a nice alternative to to the route learning. Well done and I very much look forward to the next video in the series.
+James Sumnall Thank you James, I appreciate your comment. I'm glad you enjoyed this video! They take so much longer to put together which is why I don't get chance to make these very often. :)
+QwertyAfro Thanks Qwerty, I appreciate it. I'm glad you enjoyed this video! It took ages to put together. I'm now trying to plan at least one more route guide before I go back to uni in February :)
Fantastic video mate! I'd love to see a video like this on a main line like the WCML Over Shap, WCML North, ECML London - Peterborough or the MML London - Bedford.
Another great video as always! Very nice to hear the background of the route you drive on. I've had this route for a little while, and this has re sparked my interest again! Thanks
+danbuster96 Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed this video. I started this series to try and provide some context and background for the routes people drive on as there's no other TS videos like this out there on UA-cam :)
Garsdale station has a lot of history behind it, the line to Hawes carried on over to Northallerton on the ECML, the track was kept between Northallerton and Redmire for freight and Ministry of Defence transport to Catterick Garrison (largest army base in Europe). The line has been reopened as a heritage railway between Leeming and Redmire (wish the original route will appear in Train Sim in the future). Meanwhile at Garsdale itself there used to be a turntable (now at Keighley) but due to the station's location, strong winds blew one steam loco around whilst on the turntable. This incident was used in a Thomas the Tank Engine book! Bit nerdy, but I like local Yorkshire history.
Just remembered there's also the statue of a dog on one of the platforms. The dog stayed with his owner's body for 3 months after he died whilst hiking somewhere in Wales (the owner was a campaigner against the line closure). The statue's always well polished when I visit.
Another fantastic video, very informative and thoroughly worth the wait! You can tell a lot of time and effort went into researching facts and figures about the route and overall I feel you struck a good balance between giving out information about the route and it's history and allowing us viewers to watch the trains go by. Just as an additional note, I don't know if you know but in steam days the ruling speed limit was 70-80mph the same as the Nith Valley Route from Carlisle via Dumfries and Kilmarnock to Glasgow along which through expresses from Glasgow St. Enoch station (Glasgow Central from summer 1966) to Leeds (Central) the Midland Mainline and ultimately London St. Pancras used pass. The ruling linespeed limit was reduced to 60mph in a bid to reduce wear and maintenance costs on the route. Not that trains were very fast in its fully double track 80mph days, indeed the Thames-Clyde Express from Glasgow St Enoch via Dumfries, the Settle-Carlisle line, Leeds, Nottingham and Sheffield to St Pancras took close to 10hrs 30mins to get to London! Still at least there was a Restaurant Car for the whole journey!!! Thanks the video and I hope you have a good Xmas and New Year, Ben.
+Ben Reid Thank you Ben, I always appreciate your comments! :) I'm glad you enjoyed this video. It took around 25 hours of work to research, write, record and edit. I'm currently trying to plan out my next route guide video, hopefully on the Brighton Main Line which will be a real challenge to put together. I thought this route seems like it could have a higher speed limit than 60mph, and that 60mph seems a bit slow. I didn't realise the lower speed limit was to reduce maintenance costs. I hope you have a great Christmas too! :)
Awesome video! Sounds and looks like a lot of hard work went into this. The trains almost look realistic in 60fps. I hope you can continue to record at 60fps, just looks spectacular, or as good as TS graphics can allow. Must be making good use of your free time. Can't wait to see what's next.
+Joel Stevens Thanks Joel. I'm glad you enjoyed this video! Indeed, it took over 25 hours of work to put this video together. Definitely not a quick job! I'm trying to plan out another route guide to put together before I go back to uni at the minute. On some routes recording at 60fps isn't a problem, but unfortunately that's not the case with most routes where 30fps is the only frame rate I can record at.
+DistrictDriver Thank you! I really appreciate your comment. A lot of work went into the creation of this video. Behind the scenes, I did over 25 hours of work to put it together. :)
+Sydney Trains Facts & Trivia Thank you! The London to Brighton route is the next route I am planning to cover in a route guide. It will be a particularly challenging video to make!
+Rail sim Cab Rides Thanks! They take a lot of effort to put together, but I've been getting a lot of good feedback from them so there's definitely more to come! I hope you had a good Christmas :)
+PTGRail I can completely understand how much research and development must go into these videos ;) mightily appreciate your effort, sterling results!! same to yourself, and all the best for the new year!
great vid as always very interesting with lots of facts. I would love to see you drive a heavy freight over the route with maybe a class 56 or double head class 31 powering. the route takes a lot of skill to drive safely with breaking coming down the banks as important as power going up. hoping you have a happy new year
The guard of 2H88 was praised by the press for saving the lives of passengers, but if he had done his job properly and laid detonators on the track as required in the rule book, the second train may have stopped in time to avoid the collision.
+Alan G. Brown Thanks. It took a lot of work to put this one together! I think the end result was worth it though. I will be making more of this type of video in the future :)
just a question could you a route guide on the just trains Bristol & Avonmouth route including the seven beach line the docks seven tunnle junction and Bristol parkway etc
+William Mankelow Thanks Will. Haha, that's a great question! When I have the funding to be able to get some decent camera equipment and also be able to afford to travel a bit then I will make some of these on routes in real life. I'd probably start in my local area, and then work outwards from there :)
good video btw, have you heard of the Berlin - Leipzig route? Its a great line , with a length of about 200km and an average Highspeed of 200kph (125 mph). It goes from the north of the Berlin City at Gesundbrunnen into the tunnel and into the Hauptbahnhof. After a few kilometers through the tunnel, you go towards the border where you go through the nice Landscape of Brandenburg until you reach Lutherstadt Wittenberg. After that its another 100 kilometers to Leipzig Hauptbahnhof, which is the biggest station in Germany. I really hope you cover it, because its my favorite german route. ( Its availeble on aerosoft.com )
I can see this was a huge amount of work to put together, thanks for doing this and well done m8!
+Crusher “CrusherUK2013” UK2013 It took around 30 hours of work to put this together. It was no quick feat! I hope you enjoyed it :)
Thankyou, enjoyed watching the video. I went on a steam tour over the route behind LMS Princess Elizabeth in 2006. Your video is spot on.
+Rob_209 Thank you for the comment. I'm glad you enjoyed this video! :)
Superb - very well researched and put together. Your channel is going from strength to strength - by far the best train sim channel on UA-cam.
+velogoo Thank you! I really appreciate your comment, and I'm glad that you really like the content on this channel :)

Another interesting watch, looking forward very much to the Brighton line!

Michael Watson hey michael :)
+QwertyAfro Thanks Qwerty, I appreciate it. I'm glad you enjoyed this video! It took ages to put together. I'm now trying to plan at least one more route guide before I go back to uni in February :)
PTGRail can't wait for that, the quality was excellent I can see that many hours were strained into. But it was my pleasure to watch it all. :)

Some interesting bits of information. You should do more of these.
Thanks! My next one of these will be out tonight, this time on the Brighton Main Line :)

Another great video Pete. Obviously a lot of research gone into this and I learned quite a bit about this route!
Keep up the good work!
+DistrictDriver Thank you! I really appreciate your comment. A lot of work went into the creation of this video. Behind the scenes, I did over 25 hours of work to put it together. :)
Amazing video! Enjoyed it very much.
+Dirk Weistra Thank you! :)
Awesome video. Would love if you did a mainline like London to Faversham or London to Brighton
+Sydney Trains Facts & Trivia Thank you! The London to Brighton route is the next route I am planning to cover in a route guide. It will be a particularly challenging video to make!

Excellent video
+Subrata Ghosh Thank you! :)
only have got half way through but so far a great video I have really enjoyed it. keep more videos this awesome coming please
+somerset trainspotting Awesome, thank you! I'm glad that you enjoyed this video :)

Another excellent video there mate most enjoyable and interesting.
+nablicman Thank you! :)
Very informative indeed. Fantastic!
+FrostyTb Thank you! :)
PTG you have a pretty nice PC 60 FPS On Train Sim Must have cost you alot of money.
I really like your videos. Keep up the good work
Great vid as always will you be doing Cleethorpes to Manchester airport transpennine route?
+DRFCMATTY Unfortunately not as that route isn't currently available in Train Simulator.
Another greatly interesting and historical video. Must have taken a bit of research.
+somerset trainspotting I will see what I can do :)
Where did you get that Class 57 DRS skin?
+BMWM3GTRLOVER It is available from UK Trainsim :)
Great video as always. Do you have any plans to do an American signalling guide in the future?
+Malcolm Ragan Thank you! I do indeed, but it's going to take a while to research, plan and execute that video :)
PTGRail - thoroughly enjoyed this. Thank you. Would you be interested in me helping you with the dictation/monologue for your TS route videos?
+1001saar Thank you, I'm glad that you enjoyed this video! What do you mean by helping me with the diction/monologue? :)
Nice work as always Pete. When shall we do one of these but with real footage? :-D
+William Mankelow Thanks Will. Haha, that's a great question! When I have the funding to be able to get some decent camera equipment and also be able to afford to travel a bit then I will make some of these on routes in real life. I'd probably start in my local area, and then work outwards from there :)
Well I have a good camera (Canon 5D Mkiii) and access to recording equipment as well :-D
when are you going to do a new route on the british trains?
+Raymond DeLaGhetto Another British route learning video should be out this week just before Christmas :)
good video btw, have you heard of the Berlin - Leipzig route? Its a great line , with a length of about 200km and an average Highspeed of 200kph (125 mph). ( Its availeble on aerosoft.com )
+Siemens 407 Thank you. I have indeed heard of that route, and I intend to get it when I can afford it :)
I live just 7 miles from settle.
+EinkOLED Awesome! Then you live in a very nice part of the country :)
Anyone know why it has a 60 mph speed limit?
I believe it's to reduce the maintenance costs as trains travelling at lower speeds cause less wear on the track.
Much better
💯
Hello
