In my opinion, Barrett Strong's version, the original, tops them all. But I will say, other than the Flying Lizards' version, which is kind of in its own category to me, this version comes the closest to being as good as the original to me.

I remember as a young boy hearing Abbergaveny on NZ radio during the late 60s,liked it a lot but it seems to have been the only hit he had here Auckland New Zealand 2022

Reggie Smith, Marty Wilde was in my class at school in 1955... Not surprised that he became a singer musician he was very talented.
