My wife picked up a brand new 1988 dodge diplomat squad car from Olympia in December of 87 identical to that one pretty cool to see one made it after all these years congrats
I wish we were back then, being a LEO was so much easier. I was issued a LTD 2 sedan 460cid police pursuer & I believe it was a 1979. I didn’t drive a Diplomat until about 90, but I remember the Plymouth Grand Fury staff car, because my father drove an unmarked since he was a Captain, but his only had a steady red chrome Unity & F/S siren, no wig wags & no grill lamps. All detective vehicles had grill & deck lights, however back then either they had grill/deck lamps, or a “Kojak” light. However, we learned late in the 80s & 1990, that additional Kojak lights deterred LEO crashes when having to run code, or chasing a vehicle attempting to abscond. Truly nostalgic romantic Police moment for me, I tenured w/37 years, retired on 09/01/2021, I only worked patrol division for a metro & never promoted above senior corporal, thus I started at 21, but my father & grandfather (mother’s father) were retired Police officers but made it to executive level. I was privileged to ride in Police cars in the 60’s- 2021. I turned in my duty weapon & my state peace officer license, I have my retirement credentials in a box at home, and I gave away my personal Sig 229, because I didn’t want my grandkids finding it. I wished I could keep a Remington 870 pistol grip, but I’m afraid kids are far too advanced & have no respect for firearms, thus it’s easier not to have any firearms in the house. Thank you for sharing this nostalgic video, I only drove marked units, I was never a detective ,or any type of supervisor, merely a senior corporal.
@Giuliano Matrix My kids are attorneys, and leave their kids for me to watch, however they won’t allow me to have firearms with children in the house. I already tried buying a safe & gun safety box, unfortunately they won’t drop off the kids if I have any weapon, even my police issued mace, baton, cuffs. I had to give it all away. I was shot on 11/11/1994 on a traffic stop, and on 08/09/2003 I was ambushed on duty & shot 8 times without a vest, so my kids feel that my life as a metro cop was entirely too violent, thus they will not allow me to have even hunting rifles. I never shot anyone in my 37 years as a cop, but young folks in the US use a cliché “I don’t feel safe” and they gain a lot of attention here in the US. Thank you for your kindness, Godspeed & God Bless you & your family, sir.
@Giuliano Matrix Thank you for sharing the philosophies, I think I will try & convince my kids, that I do need a handgun in the house, It will take time, but my dad was a Marine & a retired cop for 83 years, however he never gave up his license as a state peace officer, so he had to qualify quarterly, attend 50 hours of state Peace Officer professional development classes yearly.
Lovely car… I still remember watching a Dodge Diplomat get eaten in the movie Monster House. Very interesting, watching hardwood floor slice through a automobile vertically.
Miss my 84. Especially the fact I was given it for free from my wife's aunt back in 98 and the Malibu was my first car. I kick myself for not having the foresight to keep BOTH!
