Great video, and good information about the floppy drives. I would not have expected it to be so particular.

Thank you! The IIe card is rather particular about Total Reply too, which I have discovered and mentioned here:
      github.com/a2-4am/4cade/issues/503
(Seems like a fix is coming, perhaps in Beta 2.)
If you want a deeper dive into the quirks, check out my ongoing dialog with the Apple II experts here:

BTW back in the day I used to be a master System Extension/Control Panel author - if you’d like to see any new extensions written, let me know and I’ll whip some up.

Thank you for your kind words and for the excellent joystick! Your comment reminded me I forgot to add a link to your YT channel to the text description, which I remedied just now. And for those who want to skip right to it: ua-cam.com/users/JavMastervideos

A timely video! I only just placed an order to recap my own IIe card this past week. I also have a Floppy EMU (Model C), so I look forward to whatever tips & tricks you have for it too. Thanks for the video!

James fantastic always wondered about the IIe and why they sold so long your video shows what it’s like and I can’t wait to see 2, and 3!

Great video, especially the information about the two different versions.

The Apple IIe Card and the Apple IIGS both produce fairly artificial and “wrong” colours in the legacy graphics modes that were designed for the Apple II in 1977 and the IIe in 1983.
Unlike these NTSC modes, the more modern graphics on the IIGS and Macintosh have square pixels or RGB colours. They have no concept of the way the colours (and pixels) were used in the NTSC technology - which is good, because it was very odd.
But the result is very oversharpened, and is the reason those Dazzle Draw menus look so rough. There’s no way to see it for real on a IIe card, but the last new Apple II computer was the IIc Plus and it does real NTSC video with HGR and DHGR graphics.
The state of the art in emulation has, in the last decade only, finally cracked the challenge using rather mathematical solutions. CRT emulation has come leaps and bounds, and if you want a really good screenshot, you should use those really new emulators.

Interesting with the IIeStartup versions...I have to test much more on my LC

    • @JDW-
      @JDW-  Рік тому

The version of IIe Startup you need varies by the LC model you have. As mentioned in my video, v.2.2.2d1 is the newest version that came out specifically for LC575 compatibility. But that doesn't mean you need to use that on another LC Mac where an older version of IIe Startup may work just fine, oven better than 2.2.2d1, assuming 2.2.2d1 even works at all on an earlier LC Mac. So yes, testing is paramount.

@@JDW- Thx! Tested again...and did not get the 5,25 booting on any version and settings... on "scan" I get "unable to boot from slot", on slot "6" i only get the prompt and no message at all...I have to investigate this. On 6.0.8 I donÄt get the option "format as prodos" on the internal drive. It only let's me choose if single or double sided macintosh-volume. I have to have some other software or create prodos floppies via IIe card-software. The IIe software must be Version 2x above because 1.x does not work with ProDos-Partitions on the harddisk afaik.

@@drzeissler Are you using a compatible, real 5.25" floppy drive or FloppyEMU? Not all 5.25" drives will work when attached to the IIe Card's floppy connector.

@@JDW- yes, 100% correct drive. It worked...but I had lot's of problems getting it working...now I can't remember what I did because I made a fresh install on my blueScsi in order to get four prodos volumes on that machine. TotalReplay is one, but I am thing about other stuff as well...more adventures (sierra), programs, GUI like Geos etc... Having working floppys is a "bonus" not essential to me, but it would be nice... I have to check... Thx!

@@drzeissler Not sure how you got your BlueSCSI setup for use with the IIe Card, but we have a thread about Disk Jockey over at the TinkerDifferent forum here: tinkerdifferent.com/threads/disk-jockey-a-disk-image-file-maker-for-your-retro-stuff.1039/page-4#post-17767

  • @drzeissler

Why did the TotalReplayGuys make a 32 ProDos Image that's bigger than my ProDosVolume on my LC ? (I did not copy some files of the DemoFolder to make it work)
There is a BUG in the Software. Scan-Option let's a 5,25 Disk boot, using port 6 does not boot the disk, I always get an error, even if with the correct drivesetup.

Any chance you (or anyone who has enjoyed your video) knows what "Your Apple IIe card is defective. Problem #7" means? I can't seem to find anything online regarding the different Problem codes for the Apple IIe card. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
