When I had Teela as a kid I was so confused with her toy. I was too young to understand it was meant to be two different characters. Great video.
The same here.
Many of us were
Scotts the hardest working man on youtube! There's a new upload every morning and evening!! Your working harder than the Mattel fat cat execs!!!
Well someone needs to be
It's still amazing to see how many characters the original Teela spawned.
And all because Mattel only wanted to make one girl figure:P
@@vengeance1701 And because they were too cheap to tool another female body.
Isn't it!
@Pop-Actor (Rick) Yes, because they spend all their money, getting licensing agreements to make IRL cars like Ferraris and Mercedes as Hot Wheels and making sure Barbie is wearing the latest fashion trends and exclusive Bob Mackie designs
My Dad worked for the USAF in England when MOTU debuted, so before I'd seen a single episode of the TV show, MOTU books were being published in the UK..., books based on the pre-Filmation continuity..., which my brothers and I got to read. First impressions count, so (thanks to those awesome books) I always think of the Sorceress as having a snake motif rather than a bird motif, He-Man's wizard friend is called Gorpo, Greyskull is spelt with an "e", and Skeletor's base is called Point Dread, (at least they are in *my* head!). It's great to see the Goddess established as her own separate character nowadays though. However, I must admit that I was always disappointed by the online ill-treatment that we often receive whenever anyone (sometimes including fellow He-Man fans) realises that we were educated in the UK instead of the US. For me, He-Man & MOTU always stood for positivity and optimism, *not* the opposite. It's a trend that I hope will continue in the future, including all of the *new* He-Man fans too!
Another great video, Scott! I'll look forward to another one soon! 💪😊👍
They really need to collect all those books into a collection like they did the mini comics and newspaper strips.
From a lifelong English fan of MOTU and I was 9 when I first saw MOTU and fell in love with it. It’s a great property and I love all the MOTU stuff. I do have a soft spot for the UK comics and books - even now appearing in new media like Skeletor’s beak skull faced minions.
@@knightwolfpro4494 I second that. I hope they can reprint facsimiles of the old UK comics. I try to collect these when I can too.
I knew there was a logical, sensible reason that some people spelled Grayskull with an 'E'.
@@knightwolfpro4494 Speaking as an American, I would LOVE for the UK books to be put into a trade.
I always enjoy your detailed histories of MOTU characters, Scott. Keep those videos coming!
Promise I will as long as you keep watching
This was a 3 video release day. I'm so exhausted, Scott. Thanks for cranking these out regardless of how far in advance you recorded/edited the show.
Said the same thing! Hes working harder than the mattel fat cat execs!
You're Exhausted? ;[P
I had heard that the Goddess' green color was a mistake by the artist that was corrected by the second series of comics, it doesnt matter though, I love her as a character. I also love the Sharella story as it came out, taking a random drawing on a box and branding her Sharella, It works. Love the Classics story you guys gave her.
Either way it helps differentiate her
Wow! I'm honestly surprised that back in the day this was not a bid towards the "buy all our playsets and toys" mentality. That would be like releasing a red Optimus with an Ultra Magnus trailer and saying it's up to you whether or not he's the leader or the warrior. I thought it was unheard if back then. I am truly shocked by this revelation, but now I know, and knowing is...from another toy line.
But knowing is half the toy line
P.S. I also agree with your perspective on the new series. The brand HAS always been about change and has always represented an organically derived multiverse as a result. And thank you for saying so...
Personally, like the guys over at the Vaults of Grayskull website, I'll always be fondest of the potential for storytelling that the original "Jungle He-man" world presented for with its post-cataclysmic mythological ambiguity, ancient mystery, and archetypal ethos and I think that world still has a lot of potential for development if geared to the right sword and sorcery audience. But as long as it's done well every incarnation has its positives, even these new ones (yes, I love the live-action movie too...), and the target audience IS who each universe is really for.
Masters of the Universe(s) forever! WE have the powers...
Let’s see what the kids think!
Way to pump the content out "Guru", I love it!!! You are the man!
So glad! Help share if you can!
I really love how Mattel is getting those Lords of Power and initial comics characters into the 5.5" forma like the vintage toys. There is so much story there, it is possible even to create a new storyline using all the elements of the original.
For example, one I created myself,, is that Prince Adam, as part of his training, left to train for a few years in the barbarians village, in his way back he found and helped the Green Godess that gave him armor and weapons to become He-Man. People did not reconize him because he left as a young and fragile boy and returned that pile of muscles and tanned skin. Later, after fighting Skeletor, he united the sword parts into one, freeing Godess' true form, as the Sorceress and gained the ability to switch between prince Adam and He-Man to cover his identity.
That way, you can keep all original elements and the newer ones introduced by Filmation into a single, coherent storyline. I really enjoy building this world before sleeping at night :)
Oh yes, they did good
Nicely Done Scott! You know I love this character. :) Props for Quickflick too!!! I still wish he could've been produced in Classics. :)
I so wish we got a figure of him!
Enjoying these videos a lot--thanks! I appreciate your deep knowledge of the minutia.

Thanks for clearing that up
This was very informative!

So that's who the goddess and her origin is! Very nice video :)

Great video, thanks.
So glad you liked!
Thank you again Scott. I knew the lore but didn't realize the blood transfusion that transformed Sharellla into green human/Goddess. Thank you again 👌🏻👍🏻💪🏻
Glad to shed some light!
Thank you for another deeply informative video... in this case on my favorite two characters in the MotU line! Teela captured my heart as a burgeoning young collector in 1982; the golden-haired warrior of the mini-comics will always be my first love. Sharella (though I never knew her name until recently) was always the most mysterious and intriguing personage in the Eternian mythos. I always wanted to learn more about her: What were her origins? Her exact powers? Her connection to the Power Sword, and indeed to Teela herself? Now all of those mysteries have been solved by the fine people in the Classics line, spearheaded by the MotU Master Toymaker himself, whom I like to call "Ro-Scott-O", and I for one am satisfied.
Glad you are liking!
Interesting. After all of your videos that mentioned The Green Goddess, I didn’t know this side of her origin. Very cool!
Glad it was entertaining!
Hey young spectator. I haven’t watched the last 3 weeks. My fhone got smashed the screen. So I’m using my old fhone until I get the new one out of the repair shop. God bless. That a wonderful video
Was wondering if all was well!
That black and bronze Teela was gorgeous. Also love that the Goddess has a buckler.
Nice!
Thanks for doing another Green Goddess video. After watching your “Good or Bad- Stratos” video and the goddess came up in that video as well. I thought, can everything MOTU get linked back to her in that first year?
Likely yes
cool video. very informative.
Glad you liked! Share if you can
Teela has been my favorite MotU-toy as a kid. She still is one of my favorites and very essential to the brand. Glad MotUC released the Green Goddess as a figure in 2009.
Mine too
Netflix should’ve made a show about her
Ha
Booyah! I've been waiting for this. You gotta love a character who's basically the She-Hulk of MOTU. But you know, all of the early confusion about the two characters of Teela and the Goddess could have been avoided if Mattel simply printed it on the package
I'm not sure I agree with Scott's interpretation. More likely the original Teela packaging was the result of miscommunication/confusion and then the mini comics tried to make sense of it, resulting in now in a new character, the Green Goddess. It's not actually that uncommon in older toylines were the lore is new and still fluid.
@@mrsamaritan6881 Scott worked for Mattel for many years. I think he knows what he's talking about
The green Goddess was only in the very first minicomic and basically 2 images. Any kids with the DC comics where the Goddess was a regular character and not green if they really cared would assume it was a magic glow or just a different artist. Crayons would be quite familiar to anyone playing with Teela. He-man being a jungle barbarian would be the bigger problem in a couple of years.
Glad it met expectations
I have an idea for a video, you should do a video about Tri Klops origin story if he even has one.
Oddly enough... he does! There's a few videos of a "He-Man bible" floating around that was supposedly made for the early years of the series. Tri-klops, BeastMan and Evil-Lyn share a totally other worldly origin story!
I'm guessing you mean "toy design" wise though?
@@LeloniBunny origin story only
It is coming
Yay! Toy history by the toy guru!!!
Much more to explore on the channel!
Never heard of Sharella before, but seeing the model sheets have me thinking, "This is what I expected from Teela when I first heard about MOTU: Revalation". You know, muscular but still feminine shaped.
Still feminine indeed…
This was a killer episode. Funny to me because my Teela already had the armor removed to look more like Filmation. Awesome backstory of the Goddess
Glad you liked. Share if you can
I totally didn’t pick up on the transfusion from Moss Man turning Sharella green. Now I know, and knowing is half the battle!
And half the toy slogan
Very cool video. Loved this toy line as a kid, my favorite character being Mer man and being so disappointed that he didn't resemble his mini comic aesthetic
And that is why we did that look in classics!
@@spectorcreative1872 Yes, I saw a figure in Walmart recently and had to buy it. Looked like I remember with the yellow gloves and all..lol. Great figure!
Most informative. I really like how MOTUC helped flesh out the lore & brought obscure characters to "life" (in plastic form). It'd be interesting if these characters' stories were actually depicted in animated form. It'd be a good idea if Green Goddess always had those "undereye markings", to further differentiate her from Teela. And yes, I hope there's more "snake people" created, which come out in figure form.
Truly it will
Lasher is my fave snake man, him and the one with the back switch so his eyes and tongue could pop in&out. I also love Dragster and the blue demon with the Zipline too.
Anyone with a zipline is cool
And Rattlor
Can you do a deep dive into the Princess of Power line? I know you've talked about it a litte but I'd like to know some more about the ladies department working on the line and how they were incorporated into MOTU.
That will come I promise
I just watched this video and it was awesome! Funny thing though, I just searched MOTU on Walmart and the Goddess toy is listed as Teela 😅 the product image even has Teela on the packaging there 😂
That is too funny
It's this level of lore that make MOTU amazing!
Truly!
It’s fantastic how much the Sorceress/Goddess/Teela grew in so many ways. All of them great ways too. I used to think that the ‘green goddess’ was just a colouring error. Nearly 40 years on it’s an indelible part of my life now. Such a remarkable character from such a great property.
Amazing how a color change can lead to so much
Don't tell Kevin Smith, he'll turn it into an alphabet monster that Identifies as a snake.
Oh dear...
At this point it would just be a green giant man with a drag queen wig on its head. Yelling out maniacally and screeching.
🤣
@@joeesperanto678 Jolly green
Great video as per usual. This got me thinking of the Green Goddess. You should do a video, like top 20 of who in your opinion are the most powerful heroes and villains. By power, I just don't mean brute strength. But also other abilities like magic. For example, I would porbably place Standor at no.1 due to the bio in Classics. He is above everyone else. I would put both Sorceress and Light Hope above say Evil Lynn and Shadow Weaver. Also I would put peak Skeletor (Not as a God) above peak Hordak and King Hiss. I would put He-Man and She-Ra in a tie, but above Sorceress and King Grayskull and so on.
I'll add that to the list!
Wow thanks for clearing that up. Growing up I'd always wondered why she was wearing that snake gear. I never put it on when i played with her and the staff I would use with my Sorceress. I always used a sword and shield with Teela. I don't remember where the sword came from. I watched every episode, but couldn't figure out why she was in the snake suite.
And knowing is half the knowing
Kevin Smith needed to watch all these videos. And also should've read the MOTU bible. I had got the MOTU bible about 6-7 years ago and I was mind blown. Such a great read.
Maybe he is subscriber?
Suddenly I’m in the mood to draw fanart
Hey why not
If only Kevin Smith had seen this first before writing 'MOTU: Revelations'! this fills in some important blanks about Teela's purpose and origins A great video essay. ;-)
I am just glad you liked it!
Thats a great story. We really need some MOTU novels to flesh these story's out.
Oh if only Mattel would allow that
Can you classify the rankings between the gods/goddesses, warriors/warrior-gods/warior-goddesses, sorcerers/sorceress in the MOTU? This just popped into my mind when you described Teela and Evil-Lyn earlier in the video.
I’ll add it to the list
Hi! Did you ever consider the idea of making (or re-issuing) the Green Goddess classics in glow in the dark plastic?
You're doing a good job with these videos. thanks!
Bye!
See the 2016 MOTUC video on this channel!
These backstories are great!! Were there ever plans to make a pre-transfusion version of Sharella?
Battleground Teela is pretty close.
Yup. She was close
Good stuff! On the MOTUC cardback bio, the "Real Name: Sharella" was on a sticker overlaid atop the "original" name, K’yrulla. I take it this was a last minute change, but was there a different backstory that went with the K'yrulla name, before the change?
The copywriter on the line screwed up and I made them change it
@@spectorcreative1872 Fair enough. Thank you!
On the classics Goddess box. The name Sharella is glued over something on the bio. I noticed that on pixel Dan’s video. I later won Goddess on eBay and got the same thing. The name is glued on the back. Can you please give some details about this? Thank you very much
The copywriter working on the line screwed up and I made them fix it with an over label
I forget where I saw it, but I read that the overall green look was a coloring error. That she was only supposed to have a green bodysuit? Or was that Man-at-Arms? I can't remember.
Man at arms has a green body suit
Were there any plans to make Sharella (pre-Green Goddess) as a MOTUC figure or did planning of the series didn't go so far?
Yes, but the new team dropped those plans
Hmmm.. That was an interesting history lesson.
In case of how her lore was made. It really reminds me of Sidewise from Unicron Trilogy.
Originally a mysterioes autobot ninja bike...
To later show up as an side-swichting double headmaster, AND a spy of Unicron.
To a demention hoping black and orange space jet. Working with Unicron to restore his homeword, Planet X.
It is interesting how big of a shift some character go throught.
Also, wasn't she used in one comic cover where He-Man charges WITH Snakemen at something?
With her in the backroude?
I can see thar
Was her clear plastic planned based off anything for classic ver? I can see origins giving us her clear plastic with her helmet in a future delux set you wait.
Just trying to push the limits and as usual when we do that it backfired
"Comics are Weird!"
Was that a MovieBlob reference?
Yup
I have to comment on the beautiful imagery of Teela, Evil Lyn and the Green Goddess used in the video, both official and fan made. Soft, voluptuous and feminine and yet still strong.
And aspirational!
She was actually on four pages of the mini “comic” I’m looking at it now. Again she was only called the Goddess in to of the mini comics “The Magic Steeler” and “The Tale of Teela”, both from series 2. I wish you’d correct that fact in your videos.
So noted with thanks
It seemed clear to me that Scott meant the green incarnation. He literally includes images of those other, non-green appearances in the video.
@@jamesdlin7 The green version only appears in that first booklet.
Hey do one about light hope , what is he or who is he , is he one of the first ones ?
Will do!
Where can i get that Evil-Lyn statue?
Ebay
the Pre-Eternia Powers of Greyskull, would make an awesome series. Mattel show get on the ball with that instead of rebooting the "He-Man vs. Skeletor" wars. Plus, telling the stories of past "He-Man" that came after Greyskull and before Adam would be a great change, being a history buff myself.
Yeah I would so watch that
Would you be able to let us know which figure from classics was least produced and most rare? Just curious. Thanks. I heard that it was Oolar. 🤷🏻♂️
Prob Faker
Good timing....I just got my Teela in the mail today, and her arm immediately came off.
No worries though, I'm a master fixer:)
Anytime I hear "Green Goddess" I think of the salad dressing.
By the way.....I'm happy this channel exists. This is one of my only escapes during the day that isn't politics and doom and gloom.
Oh boy…
Got the Bob Chipman reference 😅
Excellent
2:50 "They only wanted to tool one of them..." Well, that's true for most MOTU figures. Mattel reused molds whenever they could. Regarding the green skin intending to help differentiate the Goddess from Teela: that undermined the ability for one figure to be two characters and just made things even more confusing. =(
Plus females don’t sell as well in boy toy lines
At 51 seconds in you have a row of different coloured Teelas that you sometimes use. Are these from actual toylines or did a fan paint them?
I think they are toy lines but I want the glow in the dark one haha ;).
It is from Super 7
Interesting
Truly!
Dunno if it's at all related to or inspiring of this, but at that time, Marvel had a while back merged Thor's two love interests, Jane Foster and Sif. In an annual made roughly about the time these comics emerged, Thor saw Jane come back after a long absence of being subsumed within Sif, who had originally sacrificed her life to save Jane's. They were finally separated just before the Walt Simonson run. Maybe wholly separate, but the writers might have known of this situation.
A very interesting interpretation!
So I wonder if and when Teela takes her Mother's place☹️ if she will keep the bird motif or if they will use the snake green goddess design.
Actually I think she dresses up as a ferret
What about the info that Teela was created at Point Dread? Never understood this, and I didn’t hear it above about Tesla’s origin.
There is a whole “Skeletor cloned” Teela thing in early mini comics
As a kid I never put together that the Tela figure was ment to be two different characters. I even threw away the snake armor because it was never used in the cartoon.
Don't worry, no one did
Yesss!!!!!!
Hell yes
The Warrior Goddess, I thought, was Teela as the next Sorceress of Grayskull, succeeding her mother.
I never knew the Goddess and Sharella connection. I just assumed the Goddess was what she claims to be: a goddess of Eternia. Oddly, i had head-canoned that she was green because of some connection to Moss-Man, but i just assumed they were siblings or cousins (pagan pantheons are often about family connections and squabbles, reflecting human nature back to us).
Bam there you go!
I liked DC comic's version of Teela taking on the mantel of Sorceress in the Eternity War series. Where each generation of the Sorceress rotated from Falcon, Snake and Bat themes.
That was very cool.
Love your videos! Like I said on Midnight's Edge's channel awhile back when they gave you a shout out: You are without a doubt the premiere MOTU afficionado on this site with the pedigree to prove it! But I was wondering where did you find that image of the Goddess blasting at Man-at-Arms and Teela? I pride myself on being able to pick out story references from all the magnificent images you use, having owned most of the vintage, U.S. MOTU books and comics when I was young; but I am absolutely clueless as to where that one is from, and since her appearances in the vintage line are so few it's kind of bothering me that I don't recognize it... =/
Anyway, you've got a loyal subscriber here and an old school He-man fan all the way (we're actually almost the same age; let's hear it for us '78 babies!) saying:
Thank you for feeding my nostalgia bug and keep up the good work!
It’s fan art from Google. And thanks for the kind words
@@spectorcreative1872 Thanks! My memory is vindicated; knew I hadn't seen it before...
is there any lore for why exactly she has snake armor and the staff? like did she lead the snake men at some point and reside at snake mountain?
Yes, I will be getting to that shortly
Surprised they didn't use green goddess as an independent character except where her land was concerned, even bringing back the power armor for whoever would fight for her. Maybe together with Darkness Sorceress and Won'Dar as her counterparts to Evil-Lyn / Teela and He-Man / Skeletor, respectively ?
Well it is never too late
Wish those modern comic design would have a figure.. Glad to have despara
Me too
How about an explanation for yellow Evil-lyn?
When she uses her powers she turns yellow. Its in her bio and in mini comic 3
Fun fantasy fact, sharella is named after a character from the Elric saga.
She's from an angelic race, but she's deformed in the fact that she has no wings.
Makes me wonder the in-universe reason for how she got the name/title of "The Goddess" rather than something like "Moss Woman" then, but I hope she got some cool plant based powers out of it.
Also I have a little MOTU lore question I've been having no luck finding the answer to, however it's not related to the topic of this video. So I feel like I should ask if it's okay to ask first please?
Moss Woman would work too
Just got the Walmart Jabba and Oola. $210. Cheaper than separately right now.
Wow
When you do a video on custom figures (Yes I know, down the road) will you want or need my help?
I am always glad to get help. I don’t custom myself
As a kid, I can say it was very confusing. Green Goddess, Warrior Goddess, Sorceress, Teela.... I don't think I ever put it together that she was supposed to be a two-in-one figure when I was little. I did wonder why there was no Sorceress figure for a while. Also there's a "Green Goddess" salad now at Panera Bread. Kind of have to wonder if the person who came up with that name got it from MOTU. lol
Boy was it!
I like the way DC Comics made Teela into the Green Snake Goddess.
That was indeed a cool approach
Given the snake theme of the goddess, I always wondered if she was liked to the Snakemen. Also wasn’t there an episode of the original cartoon where he-man goes back in time a meets a woman from the snake tribe. Did they have any relationship with the snakemen or the goddess?
You will find out soon!
Finally i got closure on teela-snake armor teela - green goddess teela!
Glad to provide!
*The Green lady character was called "The Sorceress", NOT the Goddess.* She became known as The Goddess only after her toy was merged with Teela's and her skin colour was changed to the human shade in the mini-comics.
Either way, she was called the Goddess very early on
Can you confirm weather or not orgins is doing well?
Its on fireeeee! Now that August is almost over...well most likely see the new figure waves on shelves. Target now has the wind raiders!
The Skysled with Prince Adam are now $8.99...yes 9 bucks now for such a huge box!! I ended up buying 3 of them!!!
I just made that video! Will be posting soon
Can you please do a video on the Hercules and Xena action figures line's
I"ll add it to the list!
As a kid I always thought Teela was the Warrior Goddess and the woman in the mini-comics who had blonde hair was someone else -- The Warrior Woman. I got Teela during wave 1 so did not have the "Tale of Teela" to explain this. But did have the DC Comics and mini comics where Blonde Teela lived. And then there was that mini-comic with Teela with shoulder length brown hair and a yellow tunic -- who I thought was the Warrior Woman. Every wave that came out I was annoyed that there was no Warrior Woman action figure-- then She-Ra came out and I thought she just got changed.
That is not a stretch at all!
So, is Kevin Smith setting up Teela to become the Green Goddess in part 2?
I have zero idea
Here's to hoping we get Sherella in her barbarian form in Origins.
Hoping but not holding my breath
Green goddess was a morning telly fitness person in the early 80’s.
Ha!
Mattel still owes everybody a refund who got that extremely fragile Classics Goddess
They did offer refunds!
I have a MOTUC Green Goddess that (so far) has managed to stay together. Then again, I don't mess with it much as not to push my luck, just keeping her on display!
@@videofox It happens to everything that is translucent or neon colour plastic. Mostly if you live in a tropical climate or hot places like for example Arizona or something like that. You eventually see the plastic cracking or "melting" which causes it to slowly fall apart. You must keep them somewhere where it is cool & it must never have direct sunlight. It also happens to certain lightsabers from Star Wars, so keep those away from sunlight as well.
I'm lucky - I got one of the Goddess figures that didn't break. Fingers crossed she stays that way.
