Exactly that’s a fact, that’s a main reason why I think he has top 5 handles in nba history, plus literally like no one else does that movement like how he does it
It’s an iconic move, but I think an iconic move that only buys you a contested shot isn’t as cool as a move that gets you open. A lot of highlights just show guys dribbling into contact, and then pulling a contested shot. I think it really only shows your ability to shoot with a hand up in you face, not the effectiveness of the move.
@@TapC14 Harden will likely lead the nba in 4pt plays all time, I think that shows how much the defense actually anticipates and in cases overplays the stepback, the fact he can still convert those “tough looks” to me shows the effectiveness in the move itself which is what allows Harden to actually crate the space & rhythm he needs for the jumpshot, and that works perfectly for him since the majority of his 3pt looks are self created and off the bounce
im a big guy myself, i'm 6'4 and lemme tell you, the bigger you get the easier it is to shoot the ball and for it to go far. youre able to shoot the ball with nothing but your arms really cause if you're lifting weights any real elevation is too much nd you look like an ape. Its also how you become a really good consistent shooter because its easier to focus on only one part of shooting and that is really only using your arms.
Being left handed is what made/makes his stepback jumpshot unique and so hard to guard and contest. It’s that uncanny awkwardness to try to guard him shooting left in motion added with a stepback, side step, hesitation, etc when most defenders typically are used to hounding good shooters going up from the right side.
That’s not the problem lol, him being lefty doesn’t help him at all. This is the nba and he’s the best scorer in the league, you think players don’t get it drilled into there brain by their coach to get up on his left side. It’s even crazier since harden is trash with his right hand (comparatively speaking) literally the whole game plan is to sit on his left hip and force him right, but he can’t be stopped. It’s everything else u said what makes him so deadly. I remember in hardens prime everyone was hating saying he was flopper, and I admit he was definitely a flopper and got more calls than normal players but the man still averaged 36 ppg, even if u remove like 3 extra freethrows made from that he still averages 33.
@@wildk5367 you dont play against lefties, i can tell 🤣 its a very weird matchup defending lefties and very hard to defend them because most of them drive left and shoot from the outside which is a combo that you dont get the opportunity to match against all the time thus making them play better
@@McAllister41 i’m pretty sure he’s like top 5 in 3 pointers made all time but i’ve never heard anybody mention him in the all time great shooters convos so i get that he could be underrated

I know it seems crazy but when he's got the space to fully extend and follow through his jumper looks a bit like Ray Allen's. With the high shot pocket and quick release. Super cool
If play like him a lil bit if you notice his left leg(right one in this video) is always a little infront whether hes dribbling or shooting. That helps him square up and shoot quicker. If you practice triple threat and dribbling between legs into your shot this will make unstoppable against most people. Right handed keep your right foot forward and left handed keep your left foot in front at all times
the jumper actually looked weird. the guid hand stays too close to the shooting hand on the release and he flairs his base on the release. never noticed it on his normal shot. it also looks more like he flings the ball at the rim vs shooting. the gather motion is super pretty tho. when he has space to set his feet with no pressure, the shot looks gorgeous like at 1:24
Michael Jordan, Steph Curry, Lebron James, Tim Duncan, Larry Bird, Reggie Miller, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Magic Johnson, the list goes on...ALL LEFT HANDED.🥴😌🤓
Bro's shot is actually prettier 🗿🗿🗿
How did you edit this?
How did you edit this?
His shot is ugly right handed
It looks better left handed
rotate the video bro
I think his regular form prettier maybe because there aren’t much lefty’s but his shot looks exactly likes klays reverse
The way he rhythmically tap dances into highly contested step back jumpers is one of the best signature moves ever

wow watching this made me realize how unorthodox his jumper is, very little elevation and the shot pocket is just unblockable, very pretty jumper btw
Fr that shot pocket is something...
How does he have an unblockable shot if he doesn’t elevate high? It makes no sense how 90% of these step backs aren’t sent to the stands.

Most underrated shooter in NBA history
Haha what? Trust me. The ENTIRE NBA is well aware of Harden’s ability to shoot. This comment is just silly. He’s well rated.

You just changed basketball by posting this. Thanks for the lob
ok i was like bro wtf how is he doing this for the first 20 seconds and i realized that you just flipped the entire thing around😂😂😂😂
You got something with this one bro. Keep uploading. New sub.
Dog this is gold! You should do Jalen Brunson next!!!
That jumper is beautiful
holy shit, i never realized how insanely fast his jumper can be, like from one frame to another he goes from dribbling to shot pocket.
If James harden was right handed and everyone else was left handed
Reminds me a lot of Gilbert Arenas

Booker, Middleton, Edwards
