Dredge is absolutely one of the most scariest killers in the game now, nightfalls darkens the whole map and your field of vision and makes the Dredge undetectable. Not to mention the ambiance and background noises are replaced by screams and crying so you have little information to find the Dredge or avoid him! Even worst if he just so happens to jump out of a locker right behind you. Edit: Completely forgot about Haddie too! She has appeared in the Tome’s Lore so having her added as a survivor was such an amazing thing for us Lore buffs! Dredge’s Lore is basically, some guy named Otto formed a cult on an island with the philosophy of “We are happy and only happy things happen here. If we think of bad things we’re all going to die so just be happy”. Which essentially created a lot of repressed negative emotions to be held by the inhabitants of the island. Eventually a journalist/reporter made her way to the island with the intent of liberating the people there, coincidentally the repressed emotions began to seep into the people’s everyday life. Otto caught the reporter and told the island inhabitants that she is the reason for the negative emotions and killed her, but the island people were too far gone and then started to kill each other in a panic. The emotions were so strong that it warped their corpses and gave birth to a boogeyman, the Dredge itself. Otto then left the island unharmed, satisfied with his work.
The dredge is the most scariest creepiest thing I’ve ever seen they made, they’ve made good horror killers but that is just terrifying. I hate the sounds of it. I never was more terrified for the that killer in my life the gameplay of him is awesome but when playing against him isn’t fun great video though!
It's not just their dark thoughts, the dark thoughts allowed the dredge to break into human reality. But massacring the townsfolk and absorbing them is what gave the dredge a physical form.

Tom Kane didn't die, he had a stroke and semi-retired from voice acting. He was Admiral Yularen, Yoda and C3PO and also the voice crawl narrator in Clone Wars and Bad Batch and Professor Utonium in PowerPuff Girls. Folks seem to be confused between The Observer and the Narrator. The Observer *delivers the Lore* and is played by Demetri Goritsas . The Narrator, *who describes the survivor and monster*, is voiced by Tom Kane. Haddie seems like a very Bill-esque character but instead of disrupting the monster, she speeds up escape generally. The Dredge is like a slower Pinhead... and considering how strong Pinhead is, he's going to be a giant pain in the ass.
His backstory is incredibly simaler to the real life Jones town massacre so I wouldn't be surprised if they were inspired but it's still creepy to think about
I find The Dredge incredibly creepy to go up against since it’s next to impossible to navigate during nightfall. I don’t enjoy the sounds it makes, I don’t enjoy the cries during nightfall. It’s just very unsettling. Mission accomplished by the sound and character design teams. I got in a fun farming match yesterday as The Dredge when I was working on a challenge in the 6th anniversary event tome. This group of survivors caught on that I just needed to hit them after exiting a locker. After that we fooled around a little by teleporting into lockers and letting them get pallet stun saves and flashlight saves.
The Dredge is inspired by Boogeyman type tales. According to lore it's an amalgamation and manifestation of all the darkness and evil of one cult like town. A town that happened to have been founded by a man named Otto Stamper, the former mentor of The Doctor.
Dredge is totally the scariest killer in game, imagine repairing a generator during total darkness, and out of NOWHERE you get hit by a fleshy black fog! Asides from when it jumps out of the lockers
The dredge is such a cool killer gameplay wise and story wise. Dredge being an amalgamation of the town members of this map truly shows how such a nice looking town had such a dark root or a “root of dread.” I agree with your opinion I love this killer.
To be fair, nothing in horror movies ever seems to attack until you turn around and see it. So the key to surviving is just to never be curious about what is behind you or above you or on the other side of the door, etc.

You guys should check out the Dredge's Masquerade cosmetic, it's fancy and terrifying at the same time! The Dredge is my favorite turkey boi. Also someone answered this already but the Dredge is the manifestation of the dark thoughts of a cult. Otto Stamper, the Doctor's mentor, created a cult bent on suppressing all dark thoughts and creating perfect joy. People went missing and the town got stirred into a blind panic, believing the Druanee (dark god) came for those missing. Otto made them avoid all sleep to avoid dark dreams, and eventually this sleep deprivation and paranoia reached a frenzy pitch when he brought an undercover journalist to the stage saying she and other malcontents brought the Druanee to the island. The undercover journalist revealed Otto was the one killing the others as sacrifices to the Entity's cult the Black Vale, but nobody believed her, they were all too busy trying to root out the malcontents. Eventually the town tore itself apart with hands and teeth in a bloody massacre, the outpouring of years worth of pent up darkness. This created the Dredge as a manifestation of the Druanee Otto made the townsfolk fear, literally made flesh out of the butchered townspeople.......or of gold if you wear the masquerade cosmetic XD
I recommend looking up "By Daylight" by Darkhood. It's a fan made trailer that delves a little deeper into the lore of DBD (making some heavy assumptions because we don't get a lot to go off of) It's great at showcasing the reach of the "Entity" (that weird tendril monster you see sometimes) and how some "killers" in dead by daylight are not killers by choice, but by circumstance and that they are manipulated into killing the survivors over and over by the Entity
The part where it says they navigate in darkness it Passively goes up the more survivors are injured then it goes dark for 60 seconds but a more disturbing part is towards to end of darkness you can the cries and screams of all the Dredge's consumed victims 😱

As a Leon main (and Jake, point is tho I use Flashbang a lot) with a best friend who's a Dwight main... You can imagine our distress knowing the whole locker deal with the Dredge 😂 Especially that we can't unlock them real quick and relock them, it's hard to craft flash grenades when more than half the lockers are locked and destroyed after the Dredge busts through 😭 and my friend can't hide in the lockers 😂😂

Hey Guys! How are you guys doing? hopefully well. The dredge is one of the most unique and interesting killers to come to this game. A lore dive is going to be absolutely necessary to understand this killer. (Also side note in his beta build in the game when he was first announced the developers said that they have designed this killer to act like the boogeyman).
The dredge is a pretty annoying killer to play against. The best things to do when going against him is listen for the sounds of him hoping into lockers, and if two lockers are next to each other, lock only one at a time. Lockers can only be locked once per trial and he can unlock them by escaping the locker or destroying the lock on a locked locker. The dredge is super fun to play as. I myself have both a serious build and a meme build installed on him. My meme build consists of all the locker perks and I pretty much chill in a locker the whole game unless a survivor touches the locker I'm in. I don't know much about Haddie, but I believe she's a paranormal investigator, hence the device she carries in the trailer. She's also super loud when injured so I always recommend people playing her to bring the perk iron will since it muffles sounds of pain as long as you're not exhausted.

Honestly this Chapter is More Haunting & Terrifying compared to all other Chapters because of the Dredge.

As a Leon main (and Jake, point is tho I use Flashbang a lot) with a best friend who's a Dwight main... You can imagine our distress knowing the whole locker deal with the Dredge 😂
Especially that we can't unlock them real quick and relock them, it's hard to craft flash grenades when more than half the lockers are locked and destroyed after the Dredge busts through 😭 and my friend can't hide in the lockers 😂😂

Hey Guys! How are you guys doing? hopefully well. The dredge is one of the most unique and interesting killers to come to this game. You were wondering what the dredge was and he is what e call an Egregore. This video does a lore dive and explains what and how the dredge was formed. ua-cam.com/video/4TKQ2Brz7rk/v-deo.html . A lore dive is going to be absolutely necessary to understand this killer. (Also side note in his beta build in the game when he was first announced the developers said that they have designed this killer to act like the boogeyman).

The dredge is a pretty annoying killer to play against. The best things to do when going against him is listen for the sounds of him hoping into lockers, and if two lockers are next to each other, lock only one at a time. Lockers can only be locked once per trial and he can unlock them by escaping the locker or destroying the lock on a locked locker.
The dredge is super fun to play as. I myself have both a serious build and a meme build installed on him. My meme build consists of all the locker perks and I pretty much chill in a locker the whole game unless a survivor touches the locker I'm in.
I don't know much about Haddie, but I believe she's a paranormal investigator, hence the device she carries in the trailer. She's also super loud when injured so I always recommend people playing her to bring the perk iron will since it muffles sounds of pain as long as you're not exhausted.

If you read the backstory, it says that dredge was created from the fear and hatred of a group of people manipulated by some rich guy, if the story was a book, I’d probably read it lol
