I like these small 5th wheels. All the maneuverability of a 5th wheel in a shorter length. Allows you the most compact way to have as many amenities and as much space as possible while still having a vehicle you can take out of the campground.
I LOVE THIS!!! NIGHTSTANDS IN THE BEDROOM, HUGE WARDROBE, LOTS OF STORAGE, GREAT FOR FULL TIME FOR A SOLO TRAVELER. ROCKWOOD SCORED A HOME RUN ON THIS BEAUTY!
Love the Curt turning point pin box on my Grand Design this is one of the best designs for the short bead hauling trucks. And if you don't need it, it is very easy to change it back.
I was a bit surprised at how nice this small rig is. The floor plan is perfect for this size, nice and comfortable. Great unit for one or two people, and like you said, you can take this unit places you’d be unable or reluctant to take a full size unit. I agree with others, remove the outside fridge so you have a place for a trash can in the rig. You use a trash can several times a day, how often are you really going to sit outside and watch tv?
Similar to the Flagstaff Classic. We are going to trade in our Open Range for a Flagstaff similar to this one but with the Bar Stools instead of the dinette. Great video and looking forward to having the torsion axles. I'm very glad to see major RV manufacturers using the torsion axles now. I am a bit concerned about the overall height of 13' 1" but hopefully it sits just a bit lower when all said and done. Thanks for the video, Pat
We love our 2022 Rockwood 2706WS travel trailer and one of the main factors was how the wardrobe slide really opened up the main bedroom compared to other campers with closets on the side. It’s also really hard to beat the features and build quality. So far only minor issues with over 40 nights of use and 3000 miles on it since we picked it up in February.
Im really surprised at this smaller fifth wheel, nice layout. I'm not a Rockwood fan as i usually percieved them as lower quality builds. They do need to fix the no place for the garbage can.
They are very well built. Easy way to check.. look at the resale values of them. They hold their value far longer than most of their contemporaries, and the majority of their stock equipment ( tires, solar set up, maxxair fans, TST systems, etc) are over-priced options on others.
Great trailer for a single person or a couple as a full time unit. Easily towable with a 3/4 ton gasser. F250 is my favorite. I really like the floor plan!
We have a similar bedroom layout in our fifth wheel. We removed the smaller night stand and added 5/8 plywood to extend the bed frame to hold an eastern king. It was as if it was planned for it.
I like it but would like to see more options for compact 5th wheels that 1/2 ton trucks (properly equipped) can pull. I think many people do not want to step up to a 3/4 or 1 ton truck for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is because they currently have a 1/2 ton that they like, and do not want to have to transition to a larger more expensive truck at the same time that they invest in a larger trailer.
I agree 100 percent as I am one of those people. I don't want a 3/4 ton truck that I'll only ever use to tow a camper a half dozen times a year but would absolutely love the handling characteristics of a 5th wheel over the travel trailer. If they went back to the shorter front 5th wheels like they had in the early 2000s, they might just surprise themselves at how many they sell, especially with fuel prices.
JD , i like that you are doing fver's in the under 30 ft range. I wish manufacturers would put quality that you would find in larger models. With this said i understand the weight concerns. Btw did they have a msrp on this rig? I couldnt find anything on there website.
Please forgive my ignorance: Why don't we see more units that have ACs that also function as heat pumps? Then you could delete the propane canisters and have it be all-electric, right?
Really like this unit. I wish manufacturers would offer a shower curtain rod instead of that 3 piece glass. They're heavy, apt to come open when traveling, and drove my wife nuts trying to keep the lower aluminum channel clean. Pretty easy swap though.
The problem with the turret king pins is you can't swap them out with another king pin with out welding on the frame and voiding your warranty I tow with a short bed and have no need for that king pin it's the biggest down fall off my flagstaff mid bunk
hi i have heard that it would be ok to partially open kitchen slide on this unit while attached to vehicle so can make room to access bathroom. (the 2024 unit with similar floorplan is now the 282RD)Is that true? Recommended?
Attention ALL RV Manufacturers: I say this with all due respect and kindness.....KING-SIZED BEDS, period! Yes, your sleeper sofas and other bunks will go where needed, but once and for all, the main bedrooms of ALL RVs deserve KING-SIZED BEDS!
Not everyone wants or needs a king size bed. I would be a solo traveler and prefer having a place to set my phone, a clock, and a bottle of water next to the bed. So no, NOT ALL RV's should have a king size bed. This is the perfect fifth wheel for me!
A Ram 2500 with the Cummins will be around 1900lb of payload. That is why he hedged with "most" 3/4 ton are okay, but not all if you're going to be fully loaded.
@@brianm1916 yes that's the drawback on 3/4 ton diesels that I've learned over the last couple of years. The gas 3/4 usually have a lot more payload regardless of make.
Ok, I think I figured it out. It seems that in a lot of states and here in Canada that technically the gvw is axles and tongue weight. However, it seems that a lot of officers will allow the weight to be higher as long as axle weights are not exceed. In Canada, if the trailer has 2x 3500# axles, the gvw includes the tongue weight. So we may not get away with subtracting the tongue weight. Thank you. Now i know more 😃
Remove the outside mini fridge... the worst possible location for an access point... always at the end of the awning and always the first point for rain water to start leaking into your new trailer.

I really do like these compact fifth wheels and the Rockwoods are done so well. Definitely one I’m considering.

We love our 2442bs perfect size and it has a king size bed that is a dealbreaker for us
Really love this Floorplan! If I was to get a 5th wheel, this would definitely be at the top of my list.

I'd get rid of that outdoor fridge and reclaim the space under the sink for that garbage can.

Because it doesnt exist
I really like this unit. If I could get some bunks squeezed in for the kids it would be perfect

The problem with that is the electric water heaters do not work that well
Really like this unit. I wish manufacturers would offer a shower curtain rod instead of that 3 piece glass. They're heavy, apt to come open when traveling, and drove my wife nuts trying to keep the lower aluminum channel clean. Pretty easy swap though.
I like that floor plan a lot. I think I'd take the mini fridge out and put a trash can there that you could also use from outside
I've been wanting to see a shorter fifth wheel. Very nice
Can you get table/chairs instead of booth? 😊
Very nice Small Fifth Wheel. Can you still get to the Refrigerator if the slide is in?
be just the ticket for orange grove in ft myers fl
That layout is awesome tbh, nice and open but practical and it looks cozy, bedroom looks great too. It doesn’t look as cheap as most others too.
That would be perfect for me!
Very nice. Love the room
Very nice comfortable design. One question, can you switch the couch for recliner chairs?
The problem with the turret king pins is you can't swap them out with another king pin with out welding on the frame and voiding your warranty I tow with a short bed and have no need for that king pin it's the biggest down fall off my flagstaff mid bunk
That unit would be perfect with a 12 foot cargo area on the rear for a sxs

Id love to see a shorter model, around 27-29ft interior, with an east west bunkhouse.
JD, what would your opinion be on towing this with a 3/4 ton 6.2 gasser with a payload capacity of around 3800?
Should be good to go assuming all your numbers look good.
Do the Bezels on the cook top Light up??? if not they are very Bright!

You can order king on a lot of floor plans.

Would be interested in how much room with slide in.
🤔 why are the axles underrated?
It should have at least 5k axles. That's still under gvwr and payload cap combined
Is this model discontinued. It's not on Rockwood website.
I think that there is a typo in the title, isn't it a Rockwood 2445ws, not 244sws?
10k gross w/ 2k storage, but only 2) 4300 lbs axles...? Isn't that set up for failure?
Again, it would’ve been nice to see the extra bed in the living room area converted to see the sleeping arrangement 😐
Hi, what is the MSRP and the real price for this unit. thanks
Real price is decided by dealer
Love your channel JD. Curious about your truck recommendation on this one. The capacity on my 22 f250 with the Godzilla is 3100lbs.
A Ram 2500 with the Cummins will be around 1900lb of payload. That is why he hedged with "most" 3/4 ton are okay, but not all if you're going to be fully loaded.

Wish it had a wee bit less storage, in exchange for a back window.
9815 gvw but the axles are 4300lbs each. 4300x2=8600. How can the gvw be higher than the axle rating?
Because some of the trailer weight (the pin weight) is supported by the truck. It's not all on the axles.
Ok, I think I figured it out. It seems that in a lot of states and here in Canada that technically the gvw is axles and tongue weight. Shot enough to be 1/2 ton towable 🤣
Remove the outside mini fridge... the worst possible location for an access point... always at the end of the awning and always the first point for rain water to start leaking into your new trailer.
Rockwood, TERRIBLE QUALITY.
BEEN THERE DONE THAT.
