14:47, talking about south, When Pandavas escape from Wax house, they travelled to south. There are many archeological evidences in Chikkamagaluru and Hassan districts of karanataka regarding this. And I don't find many temples for Draupadi in North, in south it is very common.

Agreed...Ami has a beautiful and fresh dimension of thought towards our great epic...first thing to do before reading Mahabharta would be to always remind urself that it is our "Itihasa" which is told in a poetic form...think of all the characters as Humans...then wen u read it, u feel ur reading an encyclopedia on philosophy, relationships, karthavya, bravery, dharma and what not...If u are interested u could join me in reading Mahabharta, the Kisari Mohan Ganguli version( the best unabridged translation of Mahabharata) by following my youtube channel "Vedascool"

@@sarvathavicharsheel7487 As BORI version was worked on by a team of scholars for years together, yes it seems more authentic.But then a lot of stories and instances are omitted in BORI version stating the reason of interpolation. Plus the English translation of BORI version by Bibekji has been told to have mistakes in translation.KMG version is freely available online and though it is in victorian English and hence a bit difficult to read, yet I felt it to be more feasible than BORI Version( totally my opinion alone).Translation are always having a flip side.Nothing is as good or authentic as reading in sanskrit.Anyways, the most important thing I feel , is we the young generation take interest in knowing our ancient texts in whichever possible way.

Yudhistira sounds like Rajnath Singh. He is sharp and knows how to convince. Perhaps Yudhistir's diplomatic brains, listening etc were better than others.

But the hisoric events mythicised in the Mahabharata are estimated to have happenned around 1500 bc. If western historicism were to be applied seriously and impartially, then there is no proof of jesus and pythagorus either

Nilesh oak is already on the journey to date the Mahabharata. His dating needs to be critically discussed with similar researchers. I saw that there was at least one such discussion.

Kushal is not convinced of Nilesh Oak's work. (I find it interesting though). I find tying Sanauli to Mahabharatha timing seems illogical. It might make sense only if someone proves that Sanaulis's chariot belonged to one of the Mahabharatha characters, which is very hard.
Sky orientation, archeology evidence from Dwaraka are the right proofs. That way Nilesh Oak's work is more credible than Kushal's favorite theory of Talageri.
When you look at a verse on one hand... compare it with a simulation on the other hand... and then ask yourself: How do i interpret this verse to make it fit with the simulation... the end result is not objective testing as Nilesh Oak claims. This is the very opposite of "objective". It could have been objective if we had objective rules to determine (or predict) what the simulation should look like purely by reading the verses and then test our predictions against the simulation. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be possible.
His dates appeal to his followers (in most cases) because of jingoism and wishful thinking. The best estimate of the Mahabharata war is 1000 to 900 bce. As per Puranas, five generations after the war, there was the flood of Hasthinapur in 800 bce, for which we have archeological evidence.
@@indieboy1033 I wouldn't put Mr Talageri and Oak in the same book. Mr Talageri is actually a genuine scholar. He has spent literally years doing a linguistic analysis of the Rig Veda, and hasn't just given his own opinions, but consulted the existing scholarship on linguistics, citing Western scholars from the 19th century to the present. His analysis is in fact irrefutable -- and let me tell you why ---he is using the Western linguists analysis itself. They have done the work and proven through linguistic analysis that the Rig Veda books were composed at different times. We know books 2-6 were the old books, and 1, 5(half way between old and new), 8 and 9 and 10 are the new books. This was already known for the last 200 years, but what he has done which nobody else did was analyse the vocabulary and identify which words were new and old and which period in Vedic chronology they fit in. For example, the word "Raat" which we all take to be night today, was "Nakt" in the old books. The word Raat is therefore a new word that the old composers were not aware of. Nobody disagrees with this, even the Western scholars.
But Talageri has taken his much further and using the Western scholars own research proven irrefutably not only were the old composers not aware of the word for "Night" they were not aware of the words for camel or goat, or spoked wheel until the stage of the new books. What conclusion does this lead to? The Rig Vedic people never entered India through the West on horse driven chariots, otherwise they would have known goats, camels or spoked wheel chariots. Instead, he has proven conclusively the Rig Vedic people originated as settled cultures in the East in Haryana and gradually moved Westwards as they expanded.
He has further shown through analysis of the words, even the metre used, that the vocabulary that the Avesta(Persians) and the Mittanis in 2000BCE have common with the Rig Veda, is only in the new books. So this leads to only one conclusion: The Persians and Mittanis were later-Vedic migrants. Therefore, he has proven, at least linguistically and textually, Out of India theory. Not a single Western linguistic has tried to refute him. But Indian scholars, I mean genuine ones, all appreciate the power of his work. He literally is the first linguist from the OIT camp.

I don’t know who has this misconception that south India has nothing to do in Mahabharata. In remote villages we will find places where Pandavas visited , in outskirts of Bangalore you have Mallikarjuna temple , linga is termed Mallikarjuna becos Arjun did penance amd orayed to this linga to get the Pashupathastra , he used Mallika flowers to adorn the lord , hence the name . The temple still exists. You have caves where they stayed during vanwas , you have the place where Bakasur lived in Chintamani . There is a place called Bakasur bandi even today to represent this incident . Similarly so many stories of different places you find in south India .

I liked most of the things in this podcast except when Kushal completely brushed aside the question about Divyastra. No question is silly except when people deliberately do it do demean anything.
He could have just explained that the Divyastras are not the same as modern day nuclear weapons.
So whoever asked the question, here is my understanding regarding the topic.
Ashwathama created a divyastra from just a straw and by chanting mantras. In order to be capable of doing so, the warriors used to do Tapasya by chanting specific mantras millions of times. In vedas, there is mention of such astras and the mantras.
Please sit somewhere with a piece of straw and chant "Brahmastra" millions of times and then do live podcast and prove it to the entire world.

Also, this forum is not to start fight but to understand our ancient scriptures. What I mentioned earlier was that the description of such astras and brahmastras are mentioned in great detail in our vedas. Whether they work or not or wheteher someone believes or not is an entirely different thing. Apart from Brahmastra, there is agneya astra, varuna astra, naga astra, vayu astra, surya astra, vajra astra, mohini astra, narayan astra, pashupat astra and many more. These names were not made up by me. Please do some research on them and I am sure you will find the details.

Couple of things. Through out the history,,, Not all Brahmins are elite,, There are poor Brahmins as well... Kshatriyas is a changing class, meaning Kshatriyas in 1500 AD may have no relation to Kshatriyas in 5 AD since kingdoms rise and fall with the rise of kingdoms new classes are formed... The Rajputs of today rose to prominence due to their support of Mughals, Rajputs served under Mughals,, Same for Traders as well and same for Shudras as well.. I
Entire Service sector, Hospitality, Industries, Lawyers, Doctors, MSME etc come under Shudra which makes them the most productive section of the society.
To be a real Bharmin you must first take the vow of poverty
@@pranavpiyush8093 Shudra term is the most confused term,, For example: There have been Jaat kings but most of the Jaats are agriculturalist but they also serve as soldiers for Jaat kings so does it make Jaats as Kshatriyas or Shudras, Neither.. Realistically there needs to be more research on Class in Indian society.. As far as I can tell the line between the class/communities was so thin that shudras can easily become Kshatriyas and Kshatriyas can become Shudras... Also this varna classification cannot be applied now at all... Also regarding doctors and others... If a doctor is self employed then he is Vaishya but if same doctor works for a bigger clinic then doctor is shudra but still doctor is a doctor and very important occupation is society,.. So these Varna classification are nothing more than theory which got rigid under British rule

- Raj Bhavan = King's Quarter NOT "King's Apartment"
- Varna = Role you play in the society NOT "caste"
- Dharma = Ethical behavior based on the Varna/role you are playing NOT "righteousness"
- Karma = Karma NOT "actions"
- Vanara = Primate Humanoid (Nara=Human) NOT "monkey"

Vanara is van=forest+nara=man.... forest dweller. The vanaras were human beings living in the forest who used to wear masks and attach tails of animals they revered...including monkeys and bears.
Dharma comes from dhri ....that which upholds. It refers to ethical behavior and is independant of varna.

Kushal, Telugu people don't have any taboo against Mahabharata. We have a saying " tinte gaarelu tinali, vinte Bharatam vinaali" which means " gaarelu ( a vada like item) are the best among foods, likewise Mahabharata is for listening. "
I had read lot of Mahabharata was based on Shivaji Sawants books (Radhey, Yugandhar). Pankaj Dhir who played Karna in an interview said he was given Shivaji Sawant Novels and his character is based on that

The book I'm recommending covers the evidence from archaeology, palaeobotany, geography, oceanography, genetic studies, and remote sensing methods. Go read the book. @Devvrat Mishra Also I never quote Ram setu as an evidence becoz proper research needs to be done around it now that we know it's a man made structure. Might be one of the first we know. So automatically the question arises who built it? If they had capability of building bridges so sophisticated then they had knowledge system? This would have begun from a date before the construction of bridge. So there was a level of civilization achieved.How long that group started civilizing? From which part it was? What time it was built?

Karna WAS A CLASS ONE ROUGE, at a minimum he was world's first 'misogynist'!! Please, please please read Vyasa Mahabharata folks! He was NEVER discriminated for caste as demonstrated by Ami in this podcast, but also he was the worst friend anyone could have!! Duryodhana goes for war based on Karna's promise that he will fight & decimate the pandavas, and then when the war starts, Karna fumes at Bheeshma and sits in his tent declaring he will not fight till Bheeshma is dead...!!! i.e. Karna did not enter the battlefield for 10 out of 18 days of the war!! Is that what a good friend does? Forget a 'good' friend, is that what a friend would even do???? It was on his instigation to get Draupadi also to court that Duryodhana drags Draupadi in he rmenses cycle to the court and orders disrobing her in the dice game!! Read Vyasa Mahabharat and understand the rogue that he is. Please KNOW PEOPLE IF YOU ARE NAMING YOUR KIDS ON THIS ROUGE'S NAME, YOU ARE NAMING YOUR CHILDREN AFER A MISOGYNST AND A 'FRIEND' WHO STABBED HIS FRIEND IN THE BACK!
"Misogynist" Karna also humbly and politely speaks to Kunti unlike what is shown in Serials and grants her the boon of sparing 4 Pandavas without asking. Scholars have argued that the stripping incident is a later addition based on it not being referenced at critical places where it should have been referenced and also based on the structure of the shlokas. He was not discriminated to the degree TV serials show, but he was still discriminated. The celestial weapon knowledge was available only to Brahmanas and Kshatriyas as stated in Shanti Parva and Karna was denied that. Marriages with lower Varna man and upper Varna woman were considered Pratiloma , ie unholy. Suta was the product of such marriage between Kshatriya and Brahmana. That doesn't mean he was a "general" category as per today's norm. Sutas were meant to be servants of Kshatriyas, as Shalya mentions in Karna Parva. Bhima compared sutas to dogs in the tournament. Ami tries justify it by saying it's Karna's fault for gatecrashing but 2 wrongs don't make a right. And the tension between Bhishma and Karna wasn't because of a single insult from Bhishma, but it was a result of years of insults from Bhishma who admitted that they were planned by him to sap his energy. Lastly this "rogue's" death is mourned by nature itself as everything is agitated and the gods and gandharvas lament his death. Karna literally has a name for being virtuous 'Vrisha'. Even when Drona is insulting Karna in Udyoga Parva he calls him generous. Karna is not a total saint, but is still a good man with flaws.
@@aryandesai9144 His being a misogynst is the all the reason one should avoid his name He is not a good man, let alone a friend. Take Sri Krishna's scolding of him on the day of his death for proof. Bheeshma was far more restrained in his reproach of Karna, someone else in his place would have been far more severe. Bheeshma said & did what he did because he could see clearly how Karna was damaging Duryodhana. Karna's fault is his bitterness about his past, and through that outlook he always claimed victimhood anytime he was slighted. For contrast, look at Sri Krishna's life, which has so many parallels with Karna, and Sri Krishna actually had way more worse of a background and upbringing than Karna!! And yet, we see how Sri Krishna handled all his problems and hurdles. He in fact takes Karna through these in proper detail in the battlefield. Suta caste folk were higher caste back then, heck Virat Raj (whose kingdom Pandavas moved to during their last year in exile) and his dynasty was a Suta lineage. His only virtue was generosity, but that could not help him since he engaged in apatra dana a lot. Out of victimhood mentality arises grandiose demonstrations (to prove a point to the 'evil' world) such as hasty charity. Like charity to Kunti of her 4 sons, and giving Indra his armors EVEN AFTER HIS OWN FATHER tells him not to. What was the necessity of such apatra daana? They are not virtuous deeds, but are devoid of merit. If you want to enter into the rabbit hole later alterations, then any & every event is a fair game for that claim, hell some say his giving Kunti boon that he'll spare 4 pandavas & other things were later additions to boost up his image. So dear friend, let's either take the entire 100,000 verses as is, or let's call the entire 100,000 verses as altered. Even Shakuni disliked Karna (since he egged on Duryodhana for war even after having his behind handed to him by Arjuna in battle of Virat Go Grahana), that's how much of a bad man Karna had become before the war that a villain also dislikes him!

Kauravas went to heaven bcuz as a kshatriya they did their duty by fighting on the battlefield and ultimately dieing there
Where as pandavas lived a long lavish comfortable life after winning the war
Hence, did live like a kshatriya for the major part of their life.

There are three versions of the Mahabharata : Jaya , Bharata and Mahabharata . Dr. Sukthankar's critical edition is the authenti c edition . As such , a scholar should confine himself/herself to the text written by Vyasa and not the enlarged ones . Vaishampayana enlarged The Jaya from 8840 shlokas to 26000 and the enlargement continued till it reached about 96000 or nearly so . 🙏
These r not versions of the book. These r somewhat parts of the great epic. The original text is Jaya (Victory) which is story of 18 days of war. Bharat means progeny of King Bharat. So history of Bharat Clan with War makes a great epic Mahabharat.

There was no Vimana shastra. The so-called Vimana shastra you are referring too is an early 20th century book which claims to be received through telepathic contact with the ghost of Bharajwaj. Are you surprised, it is not taken seriously by scientists?

This is the book I was looking for even before you started writing 😀. Anyway...to add to the discussion of polygamy at around 38 mins in the podcast, the mahabharata has very clearly defined it. Atleast the ganguly version has. A brahmin man can mary a woman from any of the 4 varnas, a kshtriya can mary a woman of his own caste or a vaishye or a shudra woman. Similarly a vashye man can mary vashye or shudra women. And the shudra could mary only a shudra.

It's a fictional tale; a scathing statement on Indian men, based on it shows your resentment for them.

@@harshr9185 Not really, even in the tale as you would call it, it is men who couldn't handle her who had a problem with her. Now, whether it is fiction or not is a debate of its own. Even in today's society, many men can't handle a strong woman. I am not generalizing, but most can't and that's the truth.

@Aman Jha Firstly, in the Hindu calendars/almanac, the day starts with sunrise, not 12 o'clock midnight. Also, given that there were 8 preher/peher, it means that 6th peher of the day will be in the night.
However, sashthi kaalam (kaale) cannot be equated with peher. So, we need more information to understand the sashthi kaalam reference.
Edit: check the panchangam, if you have in your home. You will notice that the local sunrise is always mentioned.

Oh boy if Varnaashram system was to be based on intellectaul or muscle power, then Shudra would have highest status having the greatest musle powers and all Rishies would have been Brahmins, which was not the case. Ved Vyas and majority of Rishies were not Brahmins. Power wheather in Mahabharata or now reamins the ability to influence, shape. mould, move, change or stop changes the society. Therefore the activitties or Karma vipaka of the class / caste gets clasified according to the power exercise over society.
