Sorry if this seems like a no-brainer, but if baby already has a RAM cannula (say for BCPAP) but requires bagging for an apneic episode, do you recommend quickly untaping and getting the cannula off first?
It's a good question. If you feel like you can get a good seal with the mask (since it is slightly deflated) then go for it, but usually best to remove quickly if not working. thanks for the question.
I’m not sure if understood your explanation well, if we have a t-piece or anesthesia bag you said that we can start with cpap and then ppv. Do we only give ppv if the heart rate is below 100 or can we give ppv regardless of the 100. Im a new NICu nurse
Sorry. If the baby is breathing by itself, you can do CPAP. May need to escalate to PPV if but effective. However, if the infant is apneic, then you need to do PPV since CPAP will not help get rid of CO2 necessarily. Hope this helps. And check out my Instagram (@thenicudoc) for more content! 😄
