Well, this was fun. Andrew McCarthy was always (in his films) "cool". The way he dressed. The way he treated the girls he was in love with with patience and respect. Someone a guy could look up to. Nobody dresses that cool any more. Somehow torn jeans & hoodies and dirty gym shoes just aren't as impressive or appealing as pressed linen pants, ironed cotton shirts, a Burberry coat and a great hair cut.
Although I love him and I would love to give him the credit for that, that’s just the preppy 80s. If you look at his costars in those films; Spader Judd Nelson, Rob Lowe etc. they all dressed like that :)
Not sure what you did not like about Mexico despite the negatives you hear its like many countrys there is always the negative ....You should give it a chance visit Mexico its a beautiful A country the people are warm and friendly and the food is amazing the folklore the Mariachi music, the pyrimids, beaches Los Cabos Puerto Vallarta ....the port of South of Mexico Veracruz , Waterfalls, its beautiful and if you have the right people to tour you its an amazing beautiful country you are missing ....🙁🙏
The thing I’ve always loved about Andrew is he’s quietly disarming in a very thoughtful, intelligent way. I didn’t know he was a travel writer so I’m going to go and seek out his books and read them. Keep up the great work Andrew. Your a lovely human being! I love that movie that you made with Terry and the scene where you brought her the horse to her Horse photography museum show. It’s one of my favorites.I also have my own book on Amazon in quite a different genre so I understand the time and organization and it takes to write a book. Renae Nagle
I remember the exact moment I fell in love with Andrew McCarthy. The scene in St. Elmo's with him and Ally Sheedy.... and that shower scene.. what girl didn't wish that was her?
Thank you for an amazing interview. I will love Andrew McCarthy till the day I die~ever since he played Blaine in Pretty in Pink! But I must correct you on Schipol. My family lives in Aalsmeer and works at Schipol. They pronounce it ski-pol. But maybe there are other ways to pronounce it. Funny that he says he is an introvert, yet he is a wonderful actor. Looking forward to many more interviews.
Growing up in the 80s, my older sister loved all his movies, especially Pretty in Pink. What’s funny to me is that I’m a huge fan of the show The Blacklist starring James Spader, and McCarthy has been directing episodes since 2016. Helluva class reunion! 😂
He’s such a great travel writer, that from the moment I got lost in his first book, especially when he talks about Ireland-I don’t even think of him as an actor anymore. I think of him as a writer. And he deserves that. I met him at a book signing on Madison Ave years ago, for, I think it was that first book; he was delightful and charming.
I was about 5 years older than the Brat Packers, but my eye went straight to McCarthy. I've read some his travel articles and he's probably a better writer than an actor...which ain't too bad either. Lovely to see the older man he's grown into. And he is right on about the lack of freedom regarding this pandemic -- I personally think that was intentional.
As someone who has done solo travel to 6 countries...I can vouch for what Andrew says about solo travel....it really is the only way to travel. Travelers, in my opinion, are different than tourists...travelers dig into the culture almost like a chameleon changes his colors. Great interview, would be really awesome to sit and chat with the both of you. Cheers
Johnny has much more interesting questions than the interviews I've seen this last week. He's promoting his new book and every interviewer has asked the same questions.
Crazy about Andrew McCarthy. I wrote for a press kit from the movie Fresh Horses that included a 8.5x11 glossy photo of him which I still have beautifully framed.
Him talking about paying a guy off with money. I had to do that in Cozumel Mexico once. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣Always had a crush on this guy. Most I’ve seen him laugh and talk.
I understand Andrew McCarthy reasoning about the world being by and large a safe place, and I would mostly agree, IF, I wasn't a woman. The world is not such a safe place for women. Sure, parts are, but other places are not which is why you hear about murders of young women in so many countries around the world (i.e the two Scandinavian 20 something year old women who were killed in Morocco while the killers filmed the rape and murders and streamed it I think as I recall!) That's just one instance, there are many, many more. It frustrates me sometimes, even my husband doesn't understand why I worry about there being enough fuel in the gas tank but women worry about running out of gas and then having to walk and then being attacked. Coming out of shopping malls at night, or walking home through the city late night etc...etc...Please men, understand what it feels like to be the physically weaker sex and adjust your thinking. I'm a former travel agent, so I love travel but I take many precautions and always travel with a guy. PLANES TRAINS and Automobiles is BEST travel movie IMO.
You cant leave in fear you have to enjoy life if you manefest these thoughts its most likely to happen, but if you trust in God he will not let anything happen to you...The world is dangerous everywhere but you have to stop listening to the news that is a media that causes fear factor therefore you will absorbe all the news and you will go know where.... the world is beautiful .....ENJOY LIFE ...😊🙏😊

Truer words were never spoken Andrew!
Andrew McCarthy is a great travel writer. Thanks Johnny Jet - this was good fun!
I watch Andrew Mc Carthy in a movie called Straight from the heart ❤ He acted a Cowboy 🤠 very good movie I loved it ❤ 👏👏👏
Wow! This is amazing! I’d love to interview Andrew!

I loved Andrew McCarthy... Pretty in pink
Andrew more handsome now than in 86

Great actor and an even greater director. Haven’t read his books yet.

What about Pole to Pole with Michael Palin?!
I'll ask him!
I wonder what Andrew McCarthy's grandson would look like in 2033.
Andrew McCarthy vs James Spader 🦨... and can we get Molly Ringwald & Andrew McCarthy as random Netflix parents.... which books 📚 is he saying? Author?
Ads galore wtf
To bad the interviewer is not very good at asking interesting questions….
I hate when interviewers grovel!
