I suppose it depends what your using it for. As I used one for a home made ZVS driver for high voltage transformers; ie fly back or X-ray transformer. And it did work very well.
    Hope ya well friend.

God speed indeed! we are running out of time. I had a hunch the old rheostat was the same thing but felt compelled to make this.

@ChannelTheLizard the WEF has plans to end private vehicle ownership by 2030. Getting rid of petrol and diesel and replacing with electric that will be so expensive we will only be able to rent or hire cars. We need an alternative disruptive technology to retrofit our existing engines. Australias 1st move will banning engines over 3L, making them unsellable. less than 7 years left.

It all depends on the space gap of the resonant cavities as that controls the voltages needed to reach the threshold of ionization for the most part. The smaller the space gap between the plates the lower the voltages needed to reach the threshold for ionization, but there is a catch to that in that the smaller the gap the larger the transformer needs to be to handle the increased load the smaller gap presents to the transformer. I recently had to take out the tubes of my ten resonant cavity WFC as I found out the hard way that the space gap I had them built to was too large and would require a voltage of 20kv or more to reach the threshold of ionization. The coating on the wires could only withstand around 3kv so for the chokes that's a total of 6vk as each wire has it's own coating thickness. Every time I'd reach around 10kv the chokes would short out on me as remember they are bifilarly wound. And when I would reach 10kv nothing would happen so I did a little digging to see why I wasn't reaching the threshold of ionization with such high voltages. That's when I re-read the technical brief and found that the plate spacing was supposed to be 0.0626" and not 0.095" as Don Gable had suggested. Even one the two transformers I took with me to the Global Breakthrough Energy conference shorted out on me, but for different reasons but what I learned from that was I had to make three bobbins and not just two as the WFC is actively looking for a ground and it shorted right through the Kapton tape I had insulating the chokes away from the primary coil in search of a ground which shorted out the transformer.
I have had several of my chokes short out on me as I exceeded the wires protective coating's dielectric voltage handling capabilities. Each time when I pulled the transformer apart to see why it shorted out on me I'd find that the chokes had shorted across from the positive choke to the negative choke as it sought the path of least resistance. Took me a while to figure out why this was happening but in the end I figured it out. That is why I replaced the tubes in my WFC with ones that have a thicker wall so as to close the space gap between the plates so that the WFC took less voltage so that it would not exceed the voltage handling capabilities of the wire's protective coating.
Now with your three resonant cavity set up if the space gap is 00625 each tube will require 1kv of potential difference, which is to say 500 volts negative and 500 volts positive to get the process started. And if they are wired in series then it's going to take a minimum of 3kv of potential difference to get the process started. Meyer had ten resonant cavities wired in series which is why his WFC took 10kv or more for it to work. The reason why Meyer wired them in series is to lower the load being placed on the transformer so that the transformer didn't have to be so large. Never forget that his first transformer was the size of a car's alternator, huge!
This is why my transformers are larger than most other people getting into this technology as I have figure this part of the technology out. It's been ten years since I went to the Global Breakthrough Energy conference and to this date no one has ever reproduced the voltages I showed being applied to the WFC in that interview video done by Mr. John Fraser. Again it took me a while to learn why the coils where shorting out on me but in the end I figured it out.
Oh, there's no way to solder nichrome without having a hard time. Zinc chloride solution in hydrochloric acid is about the only flux I know that can do the job. Wash it carefully afterward.

it is interesting we come back to gap, this was something i mentioned to you recently when i couldnt figure out why i wasn't seeing a step ramp and tried a larger gap and then it appeared. you are running multiple gaps that add up, mine is just one. this makes perfect sense. over the years i have a worked with many HV transformers. They often fail when full open circuit, and when in a resonant undampened oscillation. Both things the VIC experiences, even tho it is never disconnected the chokes should 'hide', the cell allowing the transformer to climb and not behave as in a dead short for the period when the chokes have the most compression in one end.

@@m3sca1 The way I talk about this technology is very different from everyone else primarily due to the fact that only two online forums didn't give me the boot for thinking outside of the box as I challenged those Ego maniac forum leaders. As a result my voice was basically silenced as they all banned me and thus no one has been following just what I was doing. This cause me to leap way ahead of everyone else as those ego driven forum leaders held everyone in those forums back.
You see there is no real magic with this technology as it does follow the laws of physics but it operates in a place most scientist don't know about as of yet. You see the space gap of a cloud is huge thus it requires a very large voltage to reach the ionization threshold for the atoms that make up the water molecules. Since this technology is a way to mimic the earth's global electric circuit electronically it follows the same rules. A voltage intensifier circuit's transformer at a minimum must have a primary coil, a secondary coil, and two choke coils, and one automatic switch (the blocking diode). I use Schottky diodes as they have the fastest switching speeds that switch in the picoseconds.
If you made a cell to Meyer's specifications that cell will require 1kv of potential difference to just get started. It's the job of the chokes to charge up the cell and it's the job of the secondary coil to provide a great deal of resistance so as to create an unbalance in the charge and discharge cycles. This become self evident when you look over the specs I provided of the injector transformer in my thread on the OverUnity site. The transformer should charge the capacitor fast and discharge the capacitor slowly. The wire's chosen must be thick enough to power the load. Meyer's injectors have a space gap of just 0.01 inches but they are very small capacitors. With the WFC's when resonant cavities are wired in series the effect is to lower the cells capacitance 1/C1 + 1/C2 + 1/Cn, thus my ten cell WFC will have a lower capacitance than your one cell WFC. This lightens the load being placed on the transformer as your cell will place a greater load on the transformer than my cell does. But it is as you said by putting the resonant cavities in series I am increasing the space gap as all those space gaps are to be added up which is why my WFC will require close to 10kv to work and yours only 1kv as I increased the overall gap between the positive and negative voltages.
If you join the OverUnity site and send me a PM I will send you my email and we can talk about things further but know not even I share everything that I figured out as I have a company and plan to push this technology into the marketplace at some point in time in the future. If people want to compete with me they will have to do so using their own brain power not mines as I feel that's only far as I worked my butt off learning just how this technology actually works. I still have so many things I need to purchase before I am ready to truly move forwards with this technology and I will not have someone with deeper pockets than mines using my information to basically keep my out of the technology due to my lack of funds to compete with them.
Just know a long time ago I made a promise that if I figured out the science behind this technology I would share that science openly and I feel I have already done that but know it's just the science as I don't tell anyone how to make use of the science. I am a man of my word so I did as I promised I would do and posted the science behind this technology free of charge as this technology is just a way to mimic the earth's global electric circuit electronically.

Is there any difference between this variable inductor and putting a potentiometer at the start of the winding?

In this inductor, the number of turns should be 10% less than that of the first inductor and the secondary winding or/and the transformer.
This is necessary to shift the voltage phase by 180 degrees

might be a bit different with nichrome... it is somewhat resistive, i have rebuilt the wiper carriage and got them tuned same and can go a little higher to near 14 ohm
