I just played this weekend and was REALLY pleasantly surprised by this one!

Yes! I should have expected as much, but I was pleasantly surprised too.

I gotta reread my rules. I could've sworn its half the meeples and not more than half until the possibility of busting. Dang it I might have played another rule wrong.

I just checked, and now I'm not sure which is correct.😅 But here's what is says. "If more than half of your active meeples are EXHAUSTED, take all the exhausted meeples and roll them again. Repeat this process until at least half of your meeples have come out of your rolling box and are either WORKING HARD or WORKING STEADY."
So, one you have at least half of your meeples outside of your box, any further re-rolls are at RISK.

Yup I reread it as well. I’m thinking that having exactly half of your workers as “working” means you then start the press your luck rolls. Hmmm maybe clarification is on BGG.

I'm concerned about the luck-swing of rolling and its impact to the start of the game, coupled with the lack of luck swing when tons more meeples impact how they land, so a fortunate start leads to a runaway end with very little mitigation. Thoughts?

All I can say is that in our plays thus far, no one has felt that luck has negatively affected their experience. You'll always get at the very least just more than half of your total meeples (limited to a max of 10) for your turn, which resulted in 6 or 7 very often when rolling 10 meeples, but on occasion more when pushing your luck. In the game Ryan and I played, we played conservatively, and I often pushed my luck. That was not the difference in our scores as much as my ignorance of the endgame scoring tiles and poor planning.
Give the game a try for sure, if you get the chance. I'd be interested to hear what you think.
