Most people wont believe this story but in 1980 I had put together a band in Angleton Texas and we hired Mike to play keyboards. He was only 15 years old and he was not very good at that time. Obviously he got a lot better lol. I was 26 at the time and my wife gave birth to our first child in 1980. I am 71 now. That should make Mike about 59. Around 1987 he did some work in our 16 track recording studio for a couple of local Rap duo's and did a great job. He also did some piano work on a friends Christian album while I was the drummer on the recording. On that track we also had Phil Keaggy a famous Christian guitarist who recorded the guitar solo. After that Mike kinda disappeared from the area. Mike has pleasantly surprised me on his accomplishments.
Rap game really gotta put some more respect on Mike Dean. Bro is so talented and could take his talent anywhere but he decides to put on for the culture. A real goat
he needs to start a solo career in techno/house music. those people would appreciate his talent way more. and it fits his whole style and way of performing much better. he would go crazy 🔥
Yeah except he doesn’t make house music. You’re literally telling him to switch genres to try to gain more success which he doesn’t need, he’s one of the most successful producers ever and he became that by crafting his own lane and staying in it.
He doesn't need the validation after all his accolades, I'd imagine he's just doing this type of stuff out of pure passion for music rather than trying to pursue something out of it.
i think he'd be a better fit in the experimental area of electronic music instead of house/techno. People like Flume, G Jones, Eprom, Chee, Mize, The Glitch Mob and Noisia if they were still active and never retired.
I just heard this guy at a The Weeknd live and I was lost for words! Never did I expect to listen to such great synthwave sounds on a The Weeknd concert!
I wanted to see this set, but my friend and I were tired af walking back and forth between stages that we just stayed at the GoPuff stage waiting for Kevin Gates and 2 Chainz. Mike Dean is a boss, definitely gonna catch his next show if there ever is one.
Had to jump on here from seeing some comments that don't know about Mike Dean. So here is a lil summary of who he is... Mike Dean is a renowned American hip-hop producer, audio engineer, and multi-instrumentalist known for his significant contributions to the music industry. He has been instrumental in shaping the sound of modern hip-hop and has worked with a plethora of high-profile artists. Dean has collaborated extensively with Kanye West, contributing to seminal albums such as "The College Dropout," "Graduation," and "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy." He has also worked with artists like Travis Scott, Beyoncé, Jay-Z, and Madonna, providing his expertise in production, mixing, and mastering. Dean's influence extends beyond hip-hop, as he has ventured into various genres, always bringing his distinctive sound and technical prowess to the projects he undertakes.
Its crazy to see an entire crowd feel the exact same chills I got from so many moments in this performance. Mike Dean will forever live on as a legend.
It sounds so similar to the weeknd's latest songs. This just shows how much of an influence mike dean is when it comes to producing for the weeknd. Incredible
You mean that thing at 5:55 for example? That's an andalusian cadence. Used very often in Flamenco music as well :) Mike might have gotten it from Metal, where it's also often heard. I think his music is very metal influenced anyway, just played with synths.
Mike Dean looks like a time traveler that is on a quest to save music.
