This is so super helpful, thank you! I've got your welcome sequence and would highly recommend that to anyone looking at buying it. My question is, how do I do the segmentation on Convertkit? I am struggling to figure that out. Any help pointing me in the right direction would be great. Thank you Ashlyn for giving incredible value, each time. I can't wait to watch your YT and open your emails. And happy belated birthday! Thanking God for an Ashlyn in my life X
Wow, Suzanne, that's so kind! Okay, for SURE reach out to CK if you're confused, I use chat support endlessly lol. If you're talking about liquid (like adding different bits of copy in the email that speak to different segments), here's my go-to article I have bookmarked. help.convertkit.com/en/articles/2502501-advanced-email-personalization-with-liquid (And if that wasn't it, I think this is what you mean-what you'll do is load in your emails in Send > Sequences (so build a sequence). After you have your copy & pretty imagery loaded in, you need to build the automation to send to segments. Automation > Visual Automation > + New Automation.) LMK if that helps!
I love the data collection on Email #2! This is the IRL version of asking questions to identify needs/problems so you can better serve them which is the essence of great sales.
It felt personal when you said people hold back because they don't have a perfect sequence set up! Finally committed to email marketing and getting it RIGHT for the remainder of 2024 ☺
Wow, it's interesting to know that Convertkit uses liquid to enable the conditions. Thank you for showing the behind-the-scenes of your real emails, Ashlyn!!!
Yep. Liquid is a template computer language. It's what you see in variables (i.e. word holders) e.g. "{{ name }}" in place of a real person's name. Dropping this name variable throughout an email whenever you want to address a subscriber by name. Make it more personalized. It also supports conditioning statements e.g. if this then that type thing. It's also a language behind Shopify :) I believe Convertkit has a whole document on how to use it on its platform.
@@gifttanakan What she said. :) It's basically in-email personalization! This article may help explain: help.convertkit.com/en/articles/2502501-advanced-email-personalization-with-liquid
I’ve been thinking about my email sequences ever since you shared that video about what if it were simple? I literally had no idea how to simplify the welcome sequence depending on how they got added to my list…and now I do! 😂 gonna figure out this liquid thing and make some updates!
Thanks so much for this! If using an opt-in to build an email list, would you use a 5-email welcome sequence or a shorter, sales-focused 3-email sequence?
Hey, Heather! So that's what I was saying: I'm more of a fan of building your welcome sequence, 3-5 emails, and pushing ALL opt-ins through those 3-5 emails, then putting them back in a selling in the sales sequence. I've done both over the years. If you're into playing the longgame and want your email sequences to run for years, it's an easier strategy long-term. That way you can add more, new, different opt-ins over time. If you draft a sales-focused email per opt-in, you lock yourself a bit more in (which I don't like)
Hey Ashlyn - CFC alum and big fan! Question - I add 20+ people a day to my email list by leveraging strategic collaborations. How would you time the welcome sequence so they don’t get overwhelmed since they are most likely opting into at least 5 other (possibly more) email lists in the same week? Headed to buy your welcome sequence now…
Hi, Ashlyn! I was curious why you choose UA-cam over podcast.most of creative enterpuner choose podcast than UA-cam.if you have podcast i think it been successful as goal digger podcast.
If I can add in here… I see YT as the video version of Pinterest. It’s the best place for tutorials and evergreen content. Perfect for Ashlyn’s content since she SHOWS us how to do things and BTS. 😊
Thanks for this, Ashlyn! I’m reworking my Welcome Sequence now and would love to include a brief video at some point. Where in your 5-email sequence would you recommend this go?
What would you do if you had a list subscribed to an existing newsletter, never having a welcome sequence before, but wanted them to work through the new welcome sequence so they are part of the brand-update?
Emily! Love this q. It's the top of the year, so you could have fun with that. You probably only really have to adjust Email #1. I'd create a version of the welcome sequence for the OG's (or again, maybe just a version of Email #1), OR just add some conditional formatting/personalization into the body copy of any emails, (ex. "I know you've been around for a while-in the spirit of ~new year, new me~, I wanted to give you a tour of some of the ...) TL;DR, you can absolutely send them through. Be aware to adjust any messaging that an OG would read and think "why is she saying welcome or acting like I'm new, I'm not/that's weird."

Literally one of my favorite things about CK. I'm CONSTANTLY using it! (And you're so welcome, I'm glad that's helpful!)
So good! Can you share more about Liquid coding and how you pull it together?
Thanks for going through this. One question… What does liquid mean? Is that the code that changes based on the opt in? How does one create that?
