I love when they "ban" things ... It pretty much tells me I need to own those things.
Very often true
@Phillip Boyd wait there's a legal limit to how bright a flashlight can be? Oh well, shall not be infringed. Ofc no unconstitutional law is really a law at all, they're just banking on most people thinking it looks all official.
And "arm" = Any item, such as a weapon, used for attack or defense. Flashlight easily fits the definition. Come to think of it just about any item can fit the definition. What defines an item as an arm is the way it is USED, not anything intrinsic about the item
True story!
Yes me to. I'm still looking for an AR-14 Joe says I don't need one. Well I'm buying one... When I find ONE. LMAO 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Still being sold on Amazon as of January 14, 2020.
It's legal to buy any type of radio. This guy is selling a product. You just can't txt on it without a license.
Cant stop China :)
@@kevinroberts781 Text ? HAM radios are for talking. Yes a basic HAM license is needed.
@@richardo8812 not to buy it brother. Anyone can buy them. ;)
Just ordered mine..
One more freedom lost a crime no matter how small
Not yet
AND.. They should ban them. they are cheap for a reason. They aren't very good. most of them sound poor. Almost like talking into a tin can with a string. Their transmitters are poorly made and cause interference with other services. Spend more, buy a Yaesu or Icom or Kenwood. you might spend more but your going to have a much better radio. If your buying it for survival, are your communications critical? Is it worth the few extra bux to get your messages received clearly?
Black Swan I agree I’ve had many Baofeng radios and the main problem is reliably on top of sounding poor. I just listed my last two Baofengs on eBay. Yaesu has a line of budget friendly handheld radios from $60-$85
So the FCC won't let me be or let me be me so let me see... they tried to shut me down on MTV, but it feels so empty without me.
@Bob Lem You have your caps lock on, boomer.
Noice
Yep they are banned. Just like crack rocks, heroin, meth and running at the pool.
I still see them on Amazon
Thanks for the tip I bought mine yesterday📣👍👍🚨
I have these. As you said, comms is a high priority in the prepper community. The best thing I like about these and similar brands, they are manually programmable for most of the functions, certainly the functions I need. No computer software needed in a grid down situation, if programming needs to be changed.
The other vital asset of these, they can be recharged of any 12 vdc power source. This is critical to all my comms gear, in a grid down situation. Tried and tested.
Thank you for sharing. Great video.
👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
I still have a lt to learn
I just got 2 UV-5R off of Amazon here in late November 2021. So far they are still selling them. 👍
Brian they can still sell if the block off licensed frequencies. Then you down load the soft ware for the total range and that's called a work around,
Maybe
Please do a "how to" video!! I have one for emergencies but really dont know much about using it.
Stay tuned.

I watched this and some of his other videos. It was refreshing to see somebody else who rambles almost as much as I do ;-)
This thread is excellent at going step by step to program you UV-5R family of radios. www.survivalistboards.com/showthread.php?t=909148
Thanks Brain picking up one for me & the wife. Because that all in one package is best bang for the buck. Also share the programming of those. The licensing process would also be great info.
I'll do it as soon as I can
@@SurvivalOnPurpose Awesome & Thanks
On ebay the radio carries a licensed patch but still for sale .
hmm
I really love that these radios exist because it is the perfect inexpensive "Entrylevel Drug" for those who are getting in touch with this form of communication for the first time, without wasting too much money and also getinspired to make the HAM radio operator license to use it to the fullest.
Yep
The UV-5R is a phenomenal radio. The supplied antenna is adequate to hit a local repeater 12 miles away, and using five watts. It has great receive capabilities; I hear the Coastguard 170 miles away loud & clear. Don't knock it.
They have a poor wideband receiver that is prone to front end overload.
I got my unblocked UV-5R delivered to me a few weeks ago. I'm in Canada though.
thank you for the vid i live in the UK , july 2020 ebay are selling v cheap and Amazon , ive got 2 x but yet too work out properly but im learning plus brought the better antenas , Bless and once again ty for the heads up.
I've been a ham since I was 12, lord 48 years - wow! Holding the general license. Those handhelds (ham term folks) are truly made to keep your family together when we have a SHTF day. You want the different parts of the spectrum. This units lowest freq. is the 6m ban, vhf in the range of and your longer antenna is about a 1/4 length for that frequency. NOT a bad choice to a group traveling within 4 miles of each other.
Then you have the entire 2 meter band which has thousands of repeaters across the country, expect to get 6 miles from a repeater, with understandable audio into the repeater. And remember, the repeaters can easily broadcast 15 -20 miles, so just cause you hear them super loud and clear (5by5) doesn't mean it can hear you.
and talking low power (QRP) I worked all 50 states and 150 countries with 4 watts on a Heathkit Morse code (CW) I built myself probably around 13. The solar activity was incredible then, I had daily chess games on 10m band (just above CB radio) with the Soviet Union, England, South Africa. Absolutely zero signal on the radio, but we heard each other perfectly. Of course, we haven't had any solar activity, which charges our atmosphere and allowing radio waves to once again rise like a Phoenix.
I was solid at 40wpm Morse code (receive) anyone can slap out 40wpm on a keyer. It's cool with code, first you hear individual letters, that's 5wpm, then you hear words pop in your head and at 40wpm you are hearing sentences, just popping into words. I'm sure you were proficient to the degree the Scouts wanted??
Keep us informed, I'm sure a good percentage of your views are ham. There's no better bug-out thing than a 3.5m to 10m solid state radio, don't go with tubes because you can't recapture the energy fast enough.
Oh... tip of the day: If you fall and get separated from your phone up to about 20 feet away. To your phones trigger word, you can do this:" HEY SIRI, CALL 911 ON SPEAKER" the ON SPEAKER allows you to hear the person loud and clear and they can hear you.
Hope that's helpful to your subs!!
Thanks !!!
I have an amateur radio license and I have a GMRS license. I own several of these radios. But I also own quality amateur radios that I use on the HAM bands. You do not need a license for the FRS frequencies (channels). You DO need a license for GMRS and the HAM bands.
True, but these radios transmit at 10 times the "allowable" power on the FRS band on full power and twice as high on low power.
I love how you respond to as many comments as you can. No matter when the video was uploaded.
I try but I am having to back way off that
They are still for sale on e-bay, walmart, and other sites. Whether they are updated or not, not sure.
Update: Just bought one from Walmart's website, will be delivered next week.
Several school districts that I know currently purchase these 100 at a time. Have spoken to FCC reps and most of this regulation is because of so many old hams that call them all the time complaining about these BUT THEY DON’T CARE AND HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO INTENTION OF ENFORCING THESE RULES!!!
Just checked 11/6/2019... Still on sale on Amazon...
As I understand it these radios would not only transmit on FRS/GMRS, they could transmit on public safety radio frequencies, licensed business band frequencies and anything else within the radio's frequency capability range. Also, the FCC doesn't want a radio that people can easily purchase for the unlicensed services, such as FRS, MURS, etc. and then be able to transmit on the licensed services such as ham, business and public safety. That is how the regulation you quoted reads to me. Those of us who have been hams for quite some time don't want one of these radios given to a child who is in the backyard playing and wanting "walkie talkies" as part of the play. These kids then play around and would dial up ham frequencies and cause some serious interference. This is already a problem with higher powered GMRS radios that supposedly require a license. In the rural area I live in this is a minimal problem, but when I visit a big city it is nearly constant.
All true. But... they are still a very cost effective option for emergency use. For all the reasons you mention.
i thank its because their affordable and nobodys buying the over priced name brands so they either payed or talked the guvment into banning them so they can try to rape yur wallet with their name brand radios
That could be a factor
They are only making them follow the rules as far as the specs for the radios. The Chicoms can still make and sell radios but only if they build them to meet the proper specs.
The reason these are not legal is they exceed the allowed power output for the FRS band.
Definitely interested in hearing more about the use and programming features!
Stay tuned
@@SurvivalOnPurpose I just ordered 4 for my family and am new to this stuff. Looking forward to a schooling.
Stay tuned and We will learn together.
So I have a set of the cobra microtalk series. Since those are in the FRS and are in the unlicensed channels would I be able to use this to go on the same channel because all I would do is use the unlisence channels alongside the cobra microtalk. I currently do not have a license due to the fact that I am not even an adult. I like everyone else DO NOT want to get in trouble with the feds.
So, TECHNICALLY, these have more power than is allowed on an FRS radio. And you don't have to be an adult to get licensed. But, to answer your question (I think), yes these should connect with your Cobra if they are both on the same channel
Very interested in further discussion on this device. Thanks for the information.
Hi Bryan, I have wanted to get a set of these radios for some time now, but I kept putting it off. Thank you for sending the link to this video in your email (which I subscribed to). I just ordered a set of 5 for $120 on amazon. Thanks!
Cool. Stay tuned and we can learn to use them together. I passed my license exam and I’m just waiting for my name to show up on the FCC database webpage
Get a GMRS license. It covers anyone in your house!! That’s what I did.
So if I have this radio and pay for this GMRS license I can transmit on the right frequency with my family with this radio?
MOPAR is Life your whole family can. But do your reading on how to talk over the radio. It’s a good old network so keep it clean.
MOPAR is Life your responsible for the whole family when anyone talks over gmrs freaks
The reason they want FRS frequencies off these radios is because these radios transmit at 5W.The max for FRS radios should only be 2W.
Apparently they not illegal if you buy them and don’t transmit on them, you can listen in on frequency’s as long as you don’t press the PTT button.
Depends on your definition of “use”. It is pretty ambiguous.
Survival On Purpose iv only got one for my prepping, I would use it in emergencies only, but I apparently can still use it to listen in on people and use it as a scanner, I think I’ll be ok as long as I don’t start transmitting, but I’m not sure if I could still use it for the unlicensed frequencies as it’s 8 watts and has a removable antenna so basically they still illegal I think, but I’m going to see if I can join a club and get my license just out of curiosity and to be on the right side of the law, I’m from the United Kingdom so our rules could be different.
I have about 6 of them, they are handy and robust, various aspects of performance are poor but they are difficult to resist at the price. I personally use Chirp to program them, they are handy little radios to monitor systems I work on. Well done on your licence.
It's only illegal to transmit on license only frequencies, you can listen all you want, you'd be surprised how many people dont know and wouldn't believe you that you'd have to have a license go use a walkie talkie (ham radio) on certain frequencies, anyone with enough common sense could gather transmitting on police channels etc is probably wrong, the problem is those things are getting so cheap, they are cheaper than the $100 Motorola radios I got back In the day to use camping, hunting, hiking, even those aren't that much now, but from the sound of it, they're still twice as much
This video was made in Sep of 2019 I just bought 4 of these radios in October of 2021 I don’t think the FCC went through with their “Ban”
I have a question, What is that Stove behind you over your right shoulder ? TIA
Yep I hear it all. so to stop trouble at meetings I carry a gt-1 . Once it gets programed. it's written in stone. And 440 repeaters are good to go here. I even have simplex channels so I can yack. This old sgt loves to Squak hi hi. De kv4li (combat engneer retired)
2021 they 20 bucks
Well the cheapest pitch Mike I could have is 5.99 on eBay.
Thank you for the video. I had some 70 year old ham telling me that these radios were illegal and extremely low quality.
They don't compare in quality to the Yaesu HTs I have, but they work just fine. I have a couple (UV-5R and BF-F8HP) that are 3 years old now and they still work fine. They are also perfectly legal to use on ham frequencies. If you program them with CHIRP you can click on the settings tab and set the frequency limits within each band, so I set mine to 144-148 on 2 meters and 420-450 on 70 cm, so the radio will only work within those ranges, which eliminates the possibility of transmitting on an illegal frequency.
Thanks for the video! I’ve had one of these radios for a couple years now and I’m not sure how to use it properly so any instructive videos would surely be appreciated.
Stay tuned
I'm still trying to find a reason to buy one I have a Kennwood TH-D 74, Yaesu VX-8, and a Icom ID-31A. Well now I'm going to order a 2 PK
That's like having a garage full of mercedes and bentleys and deciding to get a ford fiesta
I am like you Steve I own the name brands but I would recommend the uv5 it's a remarkable value. KN4BHS
Uv5r has capabilities Ham radios do not have.
Tx outside of bands.
I would like to learn more about the use of my radio and how to get my license. Thanks for the great videos!
I will are what I can do.
Please do the video on the ham radio licensing process.
Will do
Hamtest online.com
DX Zone .com
ARRL .com
There are a lot of videos on licensing online, some good and some just ok. If you want to learn something and not just memorize the answers to the test questions you should at least get ARRL's or Gordon West's book.
The antenna and power output on those Baofeng's can exceed those as used on FRS and MURS radios. All of your family members must be licensed as Amateur Radio operators to be able to transmit on Ham Bands - with the exception of emergencies as you had mentioned. The FCC made the right decision. I own one and I just like to listen to the local FM music on mine when I take my daily walk.
I’m licensed, already have the 8 watt version, but just ordered a UV-5R. Accessories are interchangeable. Do not transmit on the Amateur bands until licensed! This is not “CB”! (But you can listen all you want) You can use the FRS portion without a license. In a real emergency, you can use anything on it.
Aren't you over modulating on the FRS with these because of FRS power limits?
They're still being sold on Amazon. I bought the 5X3 because back in the way when I first got my ticket, Novice could operate 220 repeaters but not 2-Meter or 70-cm.
What country are you in?
There is no Novice cert in USA.
@@colt45peacemaker I should preface. Back in the day was 1986 when I received my Novice Class License. The 5X3 brings me back to those days when all I could talk on for repeaters was 220. Back then you had to learn Morse Code at 5wpm and pass the technical test. Today, Morse is sadly no longer required.
@@Cambion7 1986, yes. Novice And did not include 2m😕 and you had to learn code.
@@colt45peacemaker exactly. These cheap Chinese radios are great. No longer are you breaking the bank. As long as you only program frequencies your licensed to transmit on in the ham bands you're good. I do program receive for a couple of public safety departments, but transmit is set to 146.52Mhz to remove risk of accidental transmit.
why "sadly"? That was a huge barrier to entry for many people who may have otherwise become a supporter of the hobby and then went on to learn Morse (like I am working on) K1SOP
It's all about transmission power. The UV-5R exceeds the allowable transmission power on the unlicensed bands.
True, but the FCC says it is about the frequency availability in one unit so it doesn't meet Part 90
@@SurvivalOnPurpose It comes down to these being so cheap. People think they can use them as standard walkie talkies (I did) when they don't meet the FCC guidelines for those bands. I get what the FCC is trying to prevent, I didn't say I agreed with it.
Blocking the unlicensed frequencies in these is a heavy handed way to prevent misuse by the laymen.
@Don WS4E 👍 That's what I was getting at.
It's legal to buy any type of radio. This guy is selling a product. You just can't txt on it without a license.
It is an ok radio tho. Worth the 20 bucks.
I bought a pair, have something else now so they are for sale. No boxes but never used.
Is the radio Banned as of now May 30th 2020 ? I see it is still offered in Amazon, but not sure if it is s "new" version with the FRS capability removed I am beginning to study for my license now
Pretty sure it is still the same
You all need to understand these radios are very short range, maybe a couple of miles at best so if your getting these to use in an emergency please be aware of the limitations and don’t expect to stay in touch with anyone over the range of the radio! If you had one and other member of your family had one and you are across town you not going to be able to talk so they are going to be useless for any communication over a few miles at best so keep this in mind when buying any type of hand held radio!
That is true, unless you there are repeaters involved. Which these radios are potentially capable of connecting with.
FRS output is limited to .25Watts RF. Transmitting at 5 Watts is a violation. So even if using the band is possible by tuning the power makes it wrong to use.
"genuine Baofeng cable" & you got it to work?!!! Listening to notarubicon & HMRCC (Ham Radio Crash Course), the general wisdom was to spend $20 on a proper proper one as those ones can take a lot of stuffing around to work..... hence I'm very curious as to what you did - I have a few of those cables going spare!
On a side note, I found Tenway were doing 'good' deals with the 3800mAH batteries, additional speaker/mic (& your Baofeng programming cables!) - I bought a couple of two packs but the fly in the ointment is the FM radio doesn't work - so I can transmit & receive, but if after radio updates from local/national stations, post a natural emergency you're up sh1t creek.....
Re FCC rules - HRCC did a good video on using UV-5R's as an emergency prep without a license & my take was, so long as you aren't doing anything that is nefarious or interfering with other people + using to help preserve life in an emergency, you won't be pursued by the FCC.... & I'd add, if you lock the frequency range down (In Chirp, go from Memory to settings tabs on the top left of the radio image table> other settings> bottom few options to create the lock out) to ensure that anyone you give a radio doesn't talk over often used, possibly important channels, is also worth doing to reduce possible recriminations.... ie, I'm using Aussie CB which means I can lock frequencies outside of 476-478 off & according to the local radio wiki there are no other important users to upset within that range. ...& you can still scan / add more channels as receive only - like police, NOAA, ambo's etc etc
Why ban a specific transmitter? Not because of where they are made but that they have horrible electronic design that can pass a signal to other frequencies unintentionally.
You could transmit on another frequency ( a non Ham frequency)to other radios that are used for public safety for instance and interfere with legit communications there.
Harmonic rejection filtering is almost non existent in this radio, transmitting wise. Several UA-camr's, like the Radio Mechanic have show (in a recent video) this is definitely
a problem but not necessarily from a users point of view. The FRS band limits power output to 2 Watts but this device does put out 5 Watts.
No wonder its use is banned by our friendly FCC.🥶🤯🤬
I can see limiting the power output on those channels to comply with FCC, but don't ban the radio. I see Amazon is still selling them, so maybe they can sell until current stocks run out. ??
There is no such thing as multiple amatuer band but there is multiple amatuer frquency which is vhf 144- 146 Mhz. It is illegal if you mess around beyond said frequency.
Now that you are a Ham. You know (should know) that FRS only allows a much lower transmitter power, which makes the 5v illegal on those channels. FYI I have two 5s and two 8s.
I did know that.
I saw it in amazon for sell.... are they still capable of the frequencies that fcc didn’t want them to be ?
As far as I know nothing has changed.
They'll probably just start selling them with resistors like the Yaesu's which can be removed fairly easily. This approach would be the smartest for them commercially to stay competitive....comply with regulations while at the same time giving the consumer the option to easily " tweak " the radio for expanded GMRS.
Maybe
The FCC rule really has nothing to do with BaoFeng. It's banning the FRS/GMRS combos sold at Walmart etc...
The only reason I see a problem is when people don't know what they're doing. MOST of the people with an interest in buying them have an understanding of how they work...
I'm a ham, but that doesn't mean I know what I'm doing.. it only means I passed the test.
Thing is, I do know what I'm doing.. and if SHTF I won't be worried about what's legal.
The average person doesn't understand what frequencies are allotted for what purpose. The chances of turning one on and finding someone else is null if you don't know where to look.
If people are going to buy these, at least research FRS, GMRS and MURS.
What scares me is that so many people are on DMR... which relies on the internet to work... so most people who really know how to use these are paying hundreds of dollars to plug their radios into skype for hams. Its neat, don't get me wrong.. but it'll cripple the purpose of emergency comms.
Go to www.radiorefeeence.com and program to listen only... local fire and police frequencies on these. It'll tell you on the right hand side of the page whether or not a frequency is fm or digital.
Program 146.520 and listen in every 3 hours
True
They well do like the cbs, cut the extra channels and give you a usb to open/expand your radio.
maybe
So much incorrect in this video. These radios are only legal to use to transmit on amateur radio bands: 144-148 MHZ and 420 - 450 MHz. To be legal to use, the radio must pass the technical standards required for the service / frequencies. This is evidenced by a FCC Grant for the specific rules under which the radio is certified. This radio has no such grants (thus, limited to amateur radio only). Further, the user must be properly licensed to use the frequencies. This is evidenced by a physical license for explicit license services (most services). FRS falls under license-by-rule, which means that you have a license to use the FRS service as long as you follow the rules. Moot, in this case, as the radio itself does not have and could never get an FCC Grant for FRS (removeable antenna, exceeds power limits for the service are the main two, there could be others). This prohibition did not come into effect with the FRS rules change. Technically, they have always been illegal under the rules, but the FCC has been lax (due to underfunding) in enforcement. So what. Who gets hurt? Well, these radios can either intentionally or inadvertently interfere with critical infrastructure including Police, Fire, Ambulance, Aircraft, Railroads, and other life-and-safety services. They can also interfere with licensees in other services, who have followed the rules by purchasing properly tested radios that carry an FCC Grant for the service and have a license that authorizes them to actually use the radios. The actual FCC Notice you should read up on is: docs.fcc.gov/public/attachments/DA-18-980A1.pdf
Illegally transmitting in the virtual desert FRS, GMRS, and even Ham bands is the least of the problems with these. It turns out they can operate on frequencies that can render many home security system useless.
Congrats on getting your General license!!!
Thanks. I appreciate it.
This video is not completely correct no offense to the maker of the video but the rules state the radio canot be part 97 certified but can be sold and used as a part 15 device in the fcc rules and regulations and you can use them on amiture radio bands and citizen bands but only amiture bands with a license the radio will still be able for sell the only difference is if you mess up and brake rules as you transmit than you could be fined for the radio or have it confiscated. Just thought everyone should be aware of that
The FCC notice plainly referenced the ability to transmit on both FRS and any other licensed frequencies. I just read what it said.
please make a video on how to use it and about the class process and how it was.
OK Just be patient, please. It may take me a little while
Cutting the other sides ability to communicate is the first thing the enemy does in battle.
@Hair Razor Detox ... Not even trying to hide what they are doing. Hams have such a minuscule voice it will not even be noticed. Won't make any news anywhere.

Unelected "officials" in Calif recently decided to begin charging exorbitant fees to repeater stations. Look into that attack.
leave california, stop investing in a broken system...
And when they have their yearly forest fires because of banning clearcutting and a junk power grid, nobody has emergency communication.

I’ll do it once I get them sort of figured out.
theres lots of videos here on youtube on them.
@@kylewalker5770 perfect thanks.
Also, remember that until the rest of your family gets their tickets, being licensed yourself will be of limited use for your stated purpose in ham bands. Because you can neither (a) transmit to them only, nor (b) have them transmit unsupervised. Broadcasting (transmitting only and not engaged in two-way traffic) is prohibited and, as you discussed throughout the video, transmitting by unlicensed individuals (on their own) is also prohibited. Of course none of that applies in the unlicensed bands.
@@JohnSmith-gs4lw there is no law against receiving any frequency on the ham bands whether licensed or not. I listen to hams all my life on short wave radio, unlicensed people cannot TRANSMIT on the ham bands. I cannot transmit on any short wave bands because I didn't take the general class license test yet. I can use some of the 10 meters and any of the higher ham bands above 50mhz.
The reason as I understand is because their broadcast power is way to high to transmit on the FRS band. I'm guessing baofeng is just going to update the firmware on new models
Regardless it'll be hackable and you can flash that old one over to new since all their firmware is universal.
But that would be a problem between the user and the FCC if Baofeng adds a policy paper to all new handsets stating that unauthorized modifications to system software void all warranties, support, and liability from Baofeng after unauthorized modifications without Baofeng consent are completed.
Still a fail, they cannot have a removable antenna for FRS >1 watt. They would need a complete different radio. Uv5R or other Baofeng versions fail Part 95. The closest one compliant is the BF T1 (T2) mini that is locked to GMRS/FRS. simplex
Congratulations on passing your test!!! There must be literally millions of the UV-5R's out there now, good luck stopping them being imported. Extremely popular radio here in Australia.
Yea, do the video on the ham radio licensing process.
I will work on that.
Survival On Purpose be sure to tell people that whatever address they use will forever be attached to their call sign so that the ones that care can use a P.O. Box instead of their home address.
Sean Ware use the fcc call sign lookup then click on your call sign and now everyone knows your home address.
@@JDBeastmode you can always change it
HamRadioConcepts yes and the origin will always be there
They now send them out with the illegal channels locked. But you can unlock them stupid easy. I have 7 now and they all may or may not be unlocked. I like the Bluetooth programmer, I can program them on the fly with my phone or iPad.
Amazon still has them for sale this morning, the first day the ban went into effect.
I wondered if they would. I guess we’ll see what, if anything, changes.
Ban? I just bought (Dec. 2019) two UV-5R radio's off Amazon. They shipped directly from China (free shipping) and arrived at my door two days later.
I was thinking about getting a radio to listen in on the ISS. I always had an interest in NASA and space in general.
20 quid uv5r and you can listen to the make believe iss
Thank you for making this video. I did not know anything about this new law.
You're awesome, Brian.
It not a law, it’s not even valid. The FCC has no power to stop ham operators from using any equipment they want to.
@@bulldogbrower6732 do you have a link to any articles explaining this? Did beofeng change their radios?
I just searched and they are available on Amazon still.
I know ;-)
As of almost a year after this video, they are still available on amazon, just bought mine the other day and am awaiting to ship
What a crock! Hopefully they'll keep selling the batteries after the ones I have wear out.
Buy spares now
@@SurvivalOnPurpose They are banning sales of the radio. The FCC doesn't regulate batteries. I would assume they will still be available.
Still can be wired to any other battery power regardless
@@AquaTech225 Doesn't matter anymore anyway. They still sell them.
It'a October 18th, 2019 and I just ordered 2 of them on Amazon.
Yep
I just ordered a second one. Oct 25, 2019
Survival On Purpose so nothing happened ?
I didn't follow the low
They came already on October 23, 2019. Now I have to set them up.
that ruling pertains to a few FRS GMRS HT's that have to much power output not the baofeng's
hmmm
just bought one gunna get a roof mount antenna and set it in my truck with a 12v charger in my glove box
I got a roof antenna buy I haven't had a chance to play with it much .
@@SurvivalOnPurpose its just a way to get the reception / transmission above ground level radiation ie static. it does not increase the wattage but may with obstructions provide more clarity. thanks for all you do and thanks for the heads up. i posted this video on the live chat (living survival) just did. trying to get the word out before its to late.
You can still buy them today hits 2021
I’d love to see a “how to” video! I just got my Baofeng radios, and I’d love to hear your take on it.
Stay tuned
Now that you have your radio, get Licensed!
James Hart I’m studying right now. 😇
@@vesprod Very good, its not a hard test. I am legally blind and I passed it.
Handhelds usually run at about 5 watts because the antenna is near your eyes and your eyes are sensitive to RF radiation. some radios will go over that if you feed it 13.8 vdc external power it is assumed your running an external antenna also SAFETY
10/24/19 you can still buy on Amazon not sure of capabilities. I'll order one and find out.
Never call police on your HAM radio for help! They will come to your home and take all your guns...
Anytime the police show up for anyreason they will take steal your guns.
And money, gold ,silver too.
Just bought mine. Would love a detailed how to, what to do and not do. Thank you much!
Congrats on getting ur Ham License! General class, awesome. Also, I'd like to encourage all your viewers to get their license, you'll learn a lot of interesting stuff and always be "connected" during disasters etc. Thanks for the video from a fellow Ham (AE4OO) in Kentucky :)
Thanks
Greg Outdoors I love people who encourage others like you!

Well, don’t let that keep you from trying. I had to take part of my amateur extra test 3 times as I recall. Just take it one step at a time. I believe if you want it bad enough that you can do it. Be determined and go for it 👍🏻 when you finally get ur license look me up on here and let me know it 😎👍🏻
I recently bought several of these radios from Amazon. I just renewed my Ham Radio OPERATORS license. I let my license expire when I was in the Navy during the Vietnam War and I retired in 2005. But I was able to purchase the radios without a license.
I have every accessory and a Ham Radio Base stations for my vehicles and house.

Any advice on how to learn it fast?
would love a video on licensing and programming ... thanks for the great vids

@@SurvivalOnPurpose yeah. i cant get my radio to sync with CHIPR on my computer to program it
You have to have the correct driver for your cable AND a good cable. Mine is a Baofeng cable that came with the radios. I will do my best to cover that in a future video.
Bacon Commander That’s a shame. Do you know what error you’re experiencing?
I have not found a way to get it to work at all on Windows 10, so maybe that’s the issue?
@@SurvivalOnPurpose thanks. i did DL a driver specifically for the programming. It was recommended by several sites i checked for help
Just bought some, still here ;)
Yes, please make a “how-to”
We are trying to set up an emergency GMRS repeater here where I live in East Tennessee.
4:28 someone forgot to tell Amazon. January 2020
Trucker Daddy - AKA John in Québec Yes. I just bought one yesterday. No ban of this radio. FCC has other stuff way more serious to contend with.
Shhhh
Congratulations on the passing of your amateur radio license general awesome hope to hear you on the air. De kb7zpb peace from Montana
