I really love the first part of these “top games for a specific company” where you give some background information about the company itself. As far as I know, unless you have been part of this industry for a long while, there is really no where else to find this kind of information. Thanks for sharing.
Any list that can have Power Grid, Concordia and Roll for the Galaxy knocked out of the top ten is a hell of a good list. Great job all these years RGG!!!
I'll never forget that first "aha" moment when learning how to play Dominion. Starting with the same deck, buying from a common pool of cards to add cards to your deck, , and cycling your deck with the cards you bought were new concepts (unlike MtG or Pokemon CCGs), and it changed gaming forever. There is so much to uncover (We all asked "Why would I trash an estate and lose a point?"), and every game is different. Many game developers in the years to follow even mentioned Donald X/Dominion in their credits/acknowledgements because the game was so inspiring. Why Dominion is still the GOAT to me personally and my #1 game all-time is its longevity. The expansions added new concepts that varied things quite a bit while keeping things balanced (mostly) without rendering the old cards useless; the 2nd Editions are helping those things more nowadays.
Dominion was my first intro to deck building games and since then I became addicted to the DC Deck Building game and all its expansions, including the latest Kickstarter they did a month or two ago.
I really like Temporum, it got overhyped because of the success of Dominion, but I rather like it. It does time travel well and certaily stands on its own.
It’s the same meaning in the US, however older uses of the phrase meant a single clap that others follow into raucous applause. I think that Tom meant the latter usage.
Isn't New Frontiers more like a Puerto Rico-ified RftG than space-rethemed PR? The planets and developments are basically transplanted. And it's got variable turn order, which addresses the "left right binding" that Tom Lehman disliked about PR
Same with Lost Cities and Underwater Cities. I get that Rio Grande maybe published *a* version of the game, but they weren't RG games, they just did the localised version
Dark Ages feels like the opposite of Prosperity thematically, in that you're crawling your way out of rubble, which I enjoy. Nocturne provides new mechanics and is more fantasy themed, so long as you are okay with adding more complexity.
@@ezes.5125 Right... In a true "deck building" game, you build the deck DURING the game... like Dominion, Clank, Star Realms, etc. There no deck building during a game of MTG.
Dominion is definitely #1 for my wife and I. Puerto Rico would be #2. I have not played Race yet, but hope to do so someday. I’m not sure where I would rank them but Zooloretto aand Aquaretto were two of my earlier forays into euro games. I have a lot of love and nostalgia for them. Thurn and Taxis, as well as Torres are also some of my favorite games of theirs that I have played. I like RGG a lot and want to see them do well. I wish they were the publishers of Kingdom Builder and Winter Kingdom. There would’ve been a lot less hassle trying to get these games. I would love to try Winter Kingdom, but no one seems to have the game available for sale.
@@StevenStJohn-kj9eb oh ok. I'm in Europe. Maybe Rio is the US distributor? IDK. Either way, if I remember correctly, Tom liked Concordia, but it wasn't a rave review.
Just, like, hire a good artist Rio Grande. It isn’t hard and you’ll be more competitive in the marketplace. Like, have you seen what Capstone is up to? Stonemeier? Come on. You and stronghold, get it together.
Tom rates Space Station Phoenix and Puerto Rico an 8 and yet Power Grid he rates an 8.5 along with Lost Cities and Beyond the Sun. This list is garbage! 😂

Not going to lie... A little shocked and surprised Power grid isnt on this list ...

i would add Tom Lehmann's latest masterpiece Dice Realms to the list. Every time i play it i learn something new and try different strategies to win.
Love El Grande, a classic for the ages.
"The very definition of the word elegant." Sentences like that make my heart melt ⚄
Dominion was my first into to games and still look forward to everything they come out with!

Not seeing Concordia is definitely a shame. I also vastly prefer roll to race. Zooleretto is another phenomenal one
I picked up roll instead of race cause it looks cooler after reviewing both. Are they really similar or just in the same theme?
Any love for Arctic Scavengers?
Love these lists and the history. It would be awesome to make a board game Hall of Fame Tom
I really like Temporum, it got overhyped because of the success of Dominion, but I rather like it. It does time travel well and certaily stands on its own.
Puerto Rico is by far my #1 favorite game of all time. And I also prefer it with the first expansion.
Completely agree! Underwater Cities might be higher on my list but Dominion and Beyond the Sun are among my favourite games ever!
They have some amazing games! Tom loves all these sooo much!! And my house has enjoyed most of them too
Impressive list of games. Almost need a top 20!
Wow all these games are great! Some still on my to play list.
Slow clapping is sarcastic in the UK, like 'Oh, well done, numbnuts'!
Maybe because their graphic design can be kinda ugly 😅

Do an updated Dominion list Tom!!
No Power Grid or Bohnanza? My mind is blown, Tom! 😱
I agree. Power Grid would be my #1, but to each their own. I'm curious where it would be for Tom if the list were longer.
Yes Power Grid should at least be in the top 5, let alone bottom 5 of the list. Tom must have forgotten about it.
Very solid games indeed. I've played all these except Carcassonne The City. Puerto Rico or Underwater Cities would be on the top of my list.
You know it's going to be a strong list when Space Station Phoenix is only #10.
They should give underwater cities a gungan theme
No...No they shouldn't.
Puerto Rico is also great! We are also curious about the new version.
Shame that half of these games are out of print. I hope some of these games, especially El Grande will see a reprint.
Hi Tom, I don't own Race for the Galaxy because I mainly play solo. Which expansion do you recommend for my purpose?
Cheers Tom
The solo mode was introduced with The Gathering Storm.
we are super fans of Underwater Cities!

The planets and developments are basically transplanted. And it's got variable turn order, which addresses the "left right binding" that Tom Lehman disliked about PR
You prefer puerto rico with the expansion ... which one?
Probably not top ten material, but I like Art Decko a lot
Well this one is pretty easy, Dominion always works. :)
How was Bohnanza left off! It’s my favorite card game of all time.
Chooses Puerto Rico, the image chosen of the box says Ravensburger...😂
Same with Lost Cities and Underwater Cities.
I get that Rio Grande maybe published *a* version of the game, but they weren't RG games, they just did the localised version
I own seaside and prosperity for dominion. What other expansions would you all recommend? I might pick up one more
dark ages I think adds nice variety
Renaissance

MTG, you start the game with your complete deck for that match, right?
@@ezes.5125 Right... In a true "deck building" game, you build the deck DURING the game... like Dominion, Clank, Star Realms, etc. There no deck building during a game of MTG.

Crime not to mention Thurn and Taxis or Tikal, which are far and away their two best.
Power Grid in shambles
No Concordia?
Wow no Concordia?
Isn't that PD Verlag?
@@jamesjacobthomson6198 my box of Concordia has that Rio Grande label.

This is GIPF Project erasure.

I mean, they managed to hire Ryan Laukat for Dominion 2nd edition so...

Where's coal country?
Dominion is awful. Shuffle, shuffle, shuffle, shuffle, shuffle, shuffle, shuffle. No thanks.
