I am in the process of converting to Catholicism and when I attend Mass I cry because I am unable to receive the most precious sacrament. But one day soon!!! Thank you for your videos they have been helpful in giving me the courage to attend Mass when I am so new to Catholicism 🙏🏻❤️
I would just like to make a brief comment about receiving the Holy Eucharist. I suffer terribly from social anxiety and am not always able to leave the house. I often missed Mass as a result because the sensory stimulation/overload from all the people was too much for me and I had panic attacks. I went to confession because my anxiety was further compounded by the thought that I had committed a mortal sin by not attending Mass on Sunday. My Priest took the time to talk to me about my condition, to ask me about my faith and having established that I had at no time separated myself from God he explained that it was not a mortal sin. I was to pray each week for the strength to attend but I knew that large crowds were not possible for me so we agreed that I would go on the quietest day of the week, where only half a dozen people attend. This way I could receive the Holy Eucharist but at the same time, manage my mental health challenges. It doesn't always work out successfully but I know that both my Parish Priest and God know what I am trying to achieve. Just thought I would mention that there can be exceptions and it is worth discussing with your local Priest.
That is amazing and I'm glad to hear that! I have Asperger's and anxiety issues, but fortunately mine are not as severe as what you're describing. But, I'm glad they get that and are accommodating of you.
Best thing is to focus yourself before Mass is that the primary Person you are therefore is Jesus. Keep your mind as best as possible on that Focus. Sit in the first pew if that helps keep you focused on the Mass. You can quietly close your eyes and pray thereby minimizing distractions. Basically, at the first sign of being distracted away from God as the primary Divine Person you are going therefore, you have to drag your mind back as you would do a sandbag back to focusing on Him. He is worth it!!!!
I wish I had seen this video before we started RCIA....Mass is so different for Protestants. It has taken us about six months to really know "what to do", Thank you for your information Heather. So helpful and well explained.
I'm a returning Catholic . I've been going to mass I did 3 Confessions since I was gone for such a long time . I praise God, I made it back . There were so many things I didn't know I didn't know the Catholic Church wroteBible. And I took holy Communions.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for addressing the whole “don’t judge the way other people receive Jesus” and that it’s between them and God. As a Protestant convert, one of the most offputting things was entering a Church that supposed to be unitive and like coming home and finding people would judge and make comment about people receiving in the hand (or on the tongue, the comments flowed both ways) or someone wearing a veil or not, or if they kneeled to receive or whatever. It really left a bad taste in my mouth initially, so I appreciate you addressing it.
i am attending my first morning mass on monday. The church i will visit is rather large so i thought that there will be fewer people there on monday morning and i wont feel intimidated. So i can concentrate on my prayers. I have been on a spiritual journey. God led me to the catholic church. It feels wierd, but i have become a believer. I will become close to god
If you're wondering what to wear for Sunday mass I would say dress professionally. Dress as you would for a job interview in a corporate office. Nice slacks or a skirt, dressy shirt, and a blazer or cardigan if the top is sleeveless. That being said, Jesus wants you at Mass. If your only option is sweatpants, go in sweatpants. Don't let your clothing options, or anything else, keep you from going to Mass.
I couldn’t agree more! I have teenagers and just recently one was stressing about what she had that fit and looked ok. She ended up in modest leggings and a sweatshirt and that was ok, she was going to mass willingly and her presence and comfort level was what mattered most.
@@brittanystrausbaugh6007 Our Lady of Fatima said there would be fashions that offend Our Lord. Leggings alone are not modest as they are nearly painted on leaving nothing to the imagination really. You can bet your bottom dollar that there are eyes on your daughter you don't want on her. We need to be mindful of our neighbors and not be a source of sin for them, that includes dressing appropriately, especially when going before Our Lord. There are some modest and affordable skirts on Amazon. Our comfort level should not be first on our minds when going to Mass. Was Our Lord comfortable during His passion or being nailed to the cross? No. We should sacrifice some comfort if it means being more pleasing to Him. We are going to Mass for Our Lord first and foremost. Padre Pio couldn't hear the confessions of women in skirts shorter than 8 or 9 inches below the knee. I think that went for women who wore pants and sold pants to women. He was approached by his superior about it and Padre Pio said he was doing what Our Lord told him to. www.amazon.com/dp/B08C5829SG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_1ND9FbXESV0Y1
@@brittanystrausbaugh6007 I agree with you. If your daughter wants to wear modest leggings, sweatshirt, and sneakers that should be fine. its better for her to go willingly and casual because she will get more out of the mass and you will too.
Good idea. I have a few black dresses but I think I need to buy more including black cardigans to wear. My parents always dress up for church and I should do the same more often.
I love what you said when you mention the no judgment on others. I have learned over the years that we do not know what others may be going through. It honestly could be that what they are wearing is the best that they have. We should all just be thankful of others wanting to be with ia in faith. Merry Christmas to you and your growing family.
Thank You Heather. Its great You share Your faith with others. I`m catholic and I agree completely. I was taught when I was a child by my parents on proper church edict when attending mass. I do everything the way You mentioned in this video when at church. We also follow what our catholic priest tells us with certain procedures in mass. God Bless
Thanks for this! Just had my first communion! The children are the hardest for me. We were at a Protestant church before this that always had fun children’s ministry. Trying to teach them reverence is proving difficult. It’s a work in progress. Thanks for your channel, it has helped immensely.
This might help. My younger brother was a handful during mass and our priest told Mom that she should sit close to the front where he could see what was going on during mass. I worked for him and to this day he and his family as well as mine sit in the second front row. There is also a children's mass book on the Catholic Store website that helps them follow along, not the scriptures but the main things during mass.
Moms Moms Moms and maybe some dads too. God bless you. I hope you do find time to go to Mass by yourself and be present, because I know what it is like to have kids and be watching over them. We pray in 10 second intervals. I now have grandkids and feel so blessed that they are with me, but I know though that I treasure, treasure silent private moments with our Lord. Personal moments are selfish in some ways but we have to bring the children to our Lord. God bless you moms and dads. You are blessed.
Our Church has a tabernacle room so we bow to the altar and genuflect to the tabernacle. Until I went to RCIA I had no idea that there was a difference. Good info in this video
One if not the worst thing that has come from COVID is the fact that people have lost all sense of being reverent. At my parish there has always been issues with this but I've noticed since COVID it has gotten exponentially worse. People literally leave and talk before the priest even leaves the alter. And these are people that know the mass and should know better. Please pray that we can become more reverent
I love sitting in the front :) No mass in my church still in Arizona :( I miss it so much. Daily UA-cam Mass is what I've been doing. 🙏 Thank you for reminding us the do' and don'ts at mass. ❤
I am Catholic my Husband is non-practicing Jew. I love my Catholic faith. I thank God for my life. I am not able to go to mass because of my health. Happy Holidays to you and your family. God bless you.
Wow it seems to be a problem every way I am in 🇬🇧 UK and every thing you was saying no to do we get this a lot , also beginning late to mass . Like you said I'm not there to judge either. Many thanks please keep up the great work you are doing. Paul.
What not to wear should be said as well. People need to know because there vision of what they think is modest by the culture actually isn't. Great video!
I am not able to attend mass as our church has been closed due to COVID. However, I have been watching a televised mass which includes a Spiritual Communion. I noticed you didn't mention women wearing veils. Some churches do this and others don't. It's a good idea to keep a scarf in your purse just in case. Also I liked your idea of waiting until the last song ends. I have always done that because I enjoy the music and those in the choir spend a lot of time preparing for the mass to contribute to it with their gift of music (vocal or instrumental).
This could make me super scrupulous, esp the part about dressing for a wedding feast and wearing makeup. (Esp for 7am weekday mass). Of course, we should dress modestly always, but I'm not sure if the focus on myself will be good for me. Nuns don't put makeup on or dress any differently on weekday masses, so that's one consolation for my anxiety...they don't put their nicer habit on on Sundays).
Nuns are limited on what they can wear. They are already modest and beautiful. We have to try harder because we are faced with living in the world and have to make slightly different choices, but there are still nice and modest clothing choices.
@@jacobkalee definitely! It's a real effort to be modest always, but important. We shouldn't just be modest for Mass. Anyhow, sometimes, when I haven't slept well, I get up, put on my modest clothing, wash my face and go to Mass. It's either that or miss mass or be too tired for work. I don't think God minds if I haven't put on makeup etc. I think it's better to be at Mass with my Creator (Who btw didn't create me with makeup on). But I also suffer from worry when I hear people saying these things.
@@lilyofthevalley4740 You don't necessarily need to put on makeup to go to mass. It is nice to wear more formal outfits or something dressier than just t-shirt and jeans but what is important is that you dress respectfully, neatly and modesty.
@@lilyofthevalley4740 Dressing, acting, and speaking modestly wherever we are is important. Regarding make-up, if we give the world our best, we should try to give God more. He didn't create us to wear make-up, but if we just have the idea to give God the minimum and the world our best, our priorities are wrong. I don't know you schedule, but if you have to go to bed earlier to be better prepared for Mass that is something worth looking into. Maybe there's also a Mass at a different time that could lend to you not waking up in a rush too. Something to consider.
Lily of the Valley-I don’t wear make up ever. I don’t even own make up. God loves you and he sees you beautiful whether your face is full of make up, or it’s bare. I went to mass this morning with damp hair…I know God isn’t judging me for it. I actually enjoy reading peoples comments on all the dos and donts as it really helps me to know not to judge others, and also, not to judge myself. He’s happy we are attending mass 🙏🏽
It was mentioned not to receive the Eucharist of not going to mass on Sundays. I work in a hospital on many Sundays and the Church will o.k. it.. however must be in the state of Grace to receive the Eucharist
I agree You should dress properly. Dress like you're going out To applebee's Nice shirt nice pand shoes. I have to wear sneakers because my feet are so big it's hard to find a right Size I take size 12 In my feet are really Wide Four d.
5:34 that's interesting because I usually do dress up somewhat to go to Church and I always feel like me and my son are the only ones dressed up. Mostly everyone is casual and then I'm like 🤔 am I over dressed lol but I like to dress up anyway so I still do it. I think when I was a kid and I used to go with my Grandparents, everyone was a little more dressy.
Since the pandemic I go with my dog and I just pray and stay around the church for a few moments. And sometimes walk around the church and see garbage and pick it up and throw away.
Because of the covid 19 its optical you want to to go in person or watching it online. Since tomorrow is Christmas Eve it the same. You still have the Easter and Christmas Catholics. Merry Christmas to you.
It absolutely is not optional. We are dispensed if we are an at risk population (such as elderly, pre-existing conditions), sick or because of local restrictions we are unable to get there. The dispensation doesn't mean we can arbitrarily decide to go to Mass or watch online. Our Bishop just clarified this. Our Lord and Savior thirsts for us, and not only do we deny ourselves of communion with him when we don't go to Mass in person but we also fail to quench his thirst for us. If you truly cannot go for one of the reasons listed above, okay. If you would just rather watch Bishop Barron or Fr Mike Schmitz online because it is more entertaining and convenient then the dispensation does not apply to you. Nor is fear, when none of the situations above applies to you, work as a reason for claiming "I'm dispensed!" Fear comes from the enemy, not from God.
7:55 My number 1 complaint! Born, Baptized, Raised and educated in a Catholic school and my butt would've been handed to me by my Mom and Dad and Nuns if I acted up.
I'm looking into the catholic faitj, currently in RCIA/OCIA, I'm going to be attending mass for the frist time soon, thanks your information. I probably just going to sit quietly in the back and take it all in, I'm not sure what i should be doing as a non catholic, i know i cannot partake of commuion, but the Father told me its ok just to sit and watch in a prayful manner, and if i had any questions to bring them up in my RCIA class.
hey ! I was raised this way when kneeling, anybody thoughts are welcome. So I kneel when i enter the tabernacle, i take holy oil and kneel when i enter the tabernacle. Than before I sit i kneel again and make sign of cross. Third Time I bow/kneel when receiving host/communion and make sign of cross. The Lord works in threes. How I was taught to honor Christ. Anyways just sharing my thoughts but this is the beauty of the Catholic Faith having unity in Christ. God Bless and love your videos. God Bless to your family.
I agree with about everything you said. My one contention, however, is that I don't think it really matters for the most part what you wear at Mass. If it's modest, covering everything from the inner thighs on up to above the majority of the breasts of a woman, and the guys aren't totally sleeveless and showing off their armpits or...well, other worse stuff, then it should be fine. Some people are much poorer than others, or own less than others, and then there are people with sensory issues who are not comfortable wearing certain forms of clothing. Maybe they're homeless or living in a shelter? That, or their washer machine was broken or they couldn't otherwise get laundry done with all that was going on; there could be a myriad of reasons. To me, it seems like poor shaming as well as legalism and nitpickyness regarding these things. If somebody is not coming in wearing Satanic or otherwise offensive or blasphemous things on, or wearing things that are close to exposing private parts or that are all shredded or heavily stained, than maybe that's different. I don't think people should be shamed for only going up to business casual, or a Tshirt and jeans, or sweat pants and a hoodie or whatever though. Jesus and his disciples mostly wore robes and sandals, if I'm not mistaken ...
As a Catholic convert I have trouble figuring out the missalettes. Different churches have different formats and some churches have none at all. How can I follow along?
God bless you and your family ma'am. The grace of the Lord is lighting up your face and is so visible 😊 I'm new (officially) in the Catholic religion and as a result I have a lot to learn. In general as a person I'm very observant, but especially for the faith part. I live in NYC and my wife and I go to the churches around (mostly Manhattan and Queens). I have to admit that sometimes during masses I get frustrated by the way the parishioners behavior, the way they get dressed (especially the women) and the way they receive the Eucharist. The lack of the discipline and the lack of the knowledge it is mind-blowing. And I'm taking about parishioners that they have been whole their life in the church... I've witnessed little kids going around with the Eucharist in their hands like a leftover cookie from a birthday party while the parents are watching them etc etc I suggest you that with the blessing and the help of God, to do a more detailed video by showing step by step and with the presence of the priest of your parish, from the moment someone enters the church for the mass until they leave in their blessed way home. As I mentioned above, there's a tremendous lack of knowledge (to my observance), and no one is trying to teach or correct these parishioners. Have a blessed day 🙏
Thank you so much for this! I didn't know about fasting before Mass! Merry Christmas! (Also, I'd love if you'd do a video talking about the "Catholic guilt" stereotype. I've heard about it, but as a convert, I haven't been able to figure out where that stereotype or stima comes from!)
It comes from our understanding that we're not automatically saved just by belief in Jesus Christ. We must work in cooperation with God's gift to have hope of salvation. The stereotype also comes from our sacrament of reconciliation. If someone ever says that to you consider politely replying "I dont have Catholic guilt, I just have a well formed conscience from the Holy Spirit. "
Any tips for someone who has been really wanting to become catholic but RCIA has already started? I did get in touch with the deacon of my parish about 2 months before rcia started but I had a life altering emergency happen right at the beginning. Now I’m wondering would it be rude to ask if I may join late, I have done so much to prepare and it’s been an agonizing 2 year wait for my Baptism and receiving Our Lord. If I am not meant to join the church this coming Easter, please pray for me as I cling to Jesus. I love the Catholic Church!!
That’s so exciting! I would recommend calling and asking! Explain how you’ve been doing a lot of work learning about the Catholic faith😀. Pray and ask God to help move there heart in your favor🥰
"If the church isn't crying, it's dying." Almost none of the churches in my town have a cry room, and our children, babies and all are wanted by Jesus especially in the Mass. People need to be less concerned about children being distracting and focus more on what Jesus said about bringing children to him. How can they learn if they aren't in the Mass? They don't lose their worthiness to be in His real and true Presence because they are crying. Just some food for thought. My husband personally will pace around the back of the sanctuary with our toddler on his shoulders if he has to for everyone to be in Mass together
It is written people will fall away only 1 third are gonna be refine like Gold so hold on its only gonnna get worse before it gets better . Zachariah 13:7 “Awake, sword, against my shepherd, against the man who is close to me!” declares the Lord Almighty. “Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered, and I will turn my hand against the little ones. 8 In the whole land,” declares the Lord, “two-thirds will be struck down and perish; yet one-third will be left in it.
Yes children belong in church and that is part of the way for them to learn. But when it comes to crying, you assume that everyone is capable of blocking it out. Many priests cannot because they have not spent a lot of time with babies. Parents who recently lost their child to still birth, crib death, cancer, etc cannot block it out. And let's not forget about that one breast feeding mother who may have milk come in just hearing anyone's baby cry. It's about being respectful of others.
Response edited for clarity: Children, crying or not, belong to God and belong in the Mass, not tucked away. They are real people, not distractions. Infants and toddlers do not cease to be part of God’s family or lose their worthiness to be in His Real Presence just because they are crying. A wealthy parishioner tried to bully our priest this past year on this issue. The gentleman thought he could buy himself a perfectly quiet Mass through his generous financial contributions. My priest responded appropriately of course. If I walked out of every Mass where one of my children spoke a little too loudly while asking questions about what was going on, or when one of my babies was being fussy I would never attend Mass. Women can wear nursing pads if prone to leaking. Priests carry on just fine. And if you are mourning a loss, hiding crying babies is not the solution, nor is their crying the cause. If respect is the concern, please try extending it and a little bit more mercy to people who are trying to live out their vocation of marriage and family life to the best of their God-given ability. I am sorry if it is hard for you to get through the Mass when a child is crying. I love you as a sister in Christ, but I love my kids too and I take our God's teaching to bring the little ones to him very seriously. It's more important than you having a perfectly quiet, I-can-hear-a-pin-drop Mass. Pax Christi.
@@laurapederson7725 Those are not legitimate reasons to remove a crying baby. We are also responsible for ourselves and being distracted or allowing ourselves to be emotionally triggered. If someone has lost a spouse for whatever reason and would be sad about seeing us with our spouse, does that mean we shouldn't go to Mass at all or that we should sit apart to not upset people? A nursing mother who has a letdown at the sound of a crying baby would probably have nursing pads on, but we shouldn't be expected to account for that. People have no way of knowing if the mere presence of a baby will remind someone of a stillbirth or other examples of a loss you listed. We shouldn't leave Mass or not bring our children because someone else's feelings might get hurt for our mere presence there. We should be there for God, not other people. There are reasons why we might not be able to bring our children out constantly. We should also do our part to try to be understanding of those people, shouldn't we? Often, children are uncooperative and some will scream, even if they are taken out, to still be heard in Mass. Being a parent of little children can be difficult, especially for people who have many little ones. Maybe someone's spouse died and has no help, so always taking a crying baby out, or upset child of another age, isn't always a reasonable expectation. God allows these things, it would seem, for everyone's sancitification who happens to be there at the time, so we can all realize where we are deficient in virtues and work on it. We all have to do our best to be present for the Mass, for Our Lord, and not leave just because someone might be offended. It's certainly sad to lose a child, but we can only do so much, and dealing with rowdy children at Mass comes with its own trials.
I feel heartbroken for you. I just came into the church this past spring and that would kill me if I was told because enough people are not signed up I can't join the church. Have you considered checking with other parishes in your area? You don't have to do rcia at your Parish if they can't accommodate you.
RCIA isn't always necessary to join. Talk to the priest about it. Read, read, read all about the Faith, read the entire catechism. You may be able to meet with your priest, show the knowledge you have and sometimes they'll definitely make concessions to RCIA. Blessings to you!
I wouldn't recommend that. I've met folks who made special arrangements and they are poorly Catechised because quite simply, they never were. It's not just about reading the CCC. There is much to learn through ongoing dialogue with the faithful.
Thank you so much for your support, I am a coordinator for weddings and Quinceañeras and I go Down a list too to help everyone prepare themselves to receive Jesus Christ and in word, being responsible for how you come to mass is truly important, I can’t stress enough to others, please lower the kneelers softly, I can hear how loudly they drop the kneelers down, it’s so disrespectful and rude. Thank you again for your service God bless you and your family 🙏🏻✝️🙏🏻♥️⛪️♥️🌎
Hi there. I love doing rosary like i’m doing it everyday. But i have question. Can i add more prayer in the beginning and in the end of rosary because that what i usually do and is there any more prayer that is long, like the rosary that you know. Thank you ☺️
Sing! People are so self conscious and forget that singing is praying twice, at the same time, it's not a show, the choir is there as a beautiful part of the celebration, no need for clapping at the end of Mass.
New subscriber. Converting right now (attended my second mass this week). May I ask about the icons of Jesus and Mary behind you? They are beautiful. Can you give any details about them?
Hello Heather, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year for 2021! God Bless you and your beautiful family. I come from a catholic family. My mom had 10 children. I don’t know how she did it! I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world. I have a question. The consecration of Mary, the prayer. What does it mean? I know how busy you are. If you could answer my question someday, I would appreciate it. Thank you!🙏
What to do next in case someone receives eucharest where he hasn't yet confessed some of his mortal sins. Is contrition acceptable in this case? Could you please share any thought about this?
Yes, you can; however, Roman Catholics cannot partake in the Eucharist in the Orthodox Church, which is UNFAIR! www.catholic.com/tract/who-can-receive-communion
I have four little kids and take my kids to church all by myself becuase my husband works law enforcement hours. I've been curious about Catholicism, but because I can't take eucharist as a non-Catholic and knowing that at least one of my kids will cry, I feel very unwelcome. 😕
I’m sorry you feel this way it was never intended to make people feel unwelcomed, it something so sacred to us it is the Holy of Holies entering our body, we believe it’s truly Jesus. With that we need to go to confession for our soul to be clean. It is not intended to make people feel unwelcome. I hope you can continue because the Catholic faith has so much to offer🥰
@@ACatholicMomsLife No, that part actually makes sense. What I mean is that bringing everyone to mass only to pack up and walk them all back out again 10 minutes later without having done anything or even heard the prayers and message feels completely pointless. And trying to attend confession sounds about the same. How are Catholic mothers who don't have someone on hand to help supposed to participate? Part of what makes "suffer them to come to me" so beautiful is knowing that mother's weren't exiled from Christ's presence due to fussy babies. It's not your fault and I'm not attacking you, I'm just saying that it sounds like the Catholic church doesn't even WANT new families to explore the faith.
@@jacobkalee Totally agree. It's not required anymore, but there are tons of reasons to do it. @Kassy Aldaco, check out Veils by Lily online. They have some really beautiful veils in all kinds of colors and styles and lengths. The prices are reasonable given the quality. There are much cheaper ones to be found online too (less than $10) if that is a concern. My daughter's godmother and I want to start a veiling ministry at our parish in the new year, pray for us :-)
Hi everyone! I am new to Catholicism and I want to attend my first mass, my local church has mass during the week but I have a question, is it ok to attend a mass with intention to someone I do not or didn't know? Or should I wait for a general mass? Thanks in advance!
Thanks for the informative video, as someone who isn’t catholic it kinda seems like it has very high standards to attend a Catholic Church. What if you don’t have fancy clothing? And can’t afford to buy any? Or are disabled and are unable to bend down? What if you cannot remember all the steps and things you’re expected to do? Im interested in attending but I find it very intimidating
Instead kneeling before entering the pew as soon as i enter the church i kneel and i do the sign of the cross directed at the tabernacle were Jesus should be hopefully not in a side room.
I also thought and I’m RCIA that you bow when you pass over the middle of the church. I’m saying that wrong. Hopefully you know why I am talking about. Lol
One thing that I've seen over the past ten years or so is that many Catholic parishioners hold hands during the Lord's prayer. When I was a kid, we never held hands. Honestly, I don't like holding hands during prayers. It's uncomfortable and very unnatural to me. I actually hope this newer practice ends with covid. We would shake hands during the sign of peace. I've always been ok with that since it's a tradition that has been around my whole life, but if it changes to just giving the "peace" sign, then I'm totally cool with that.
I was at mass today and an adult woman next me took her shoe off and picked out her toe jam. All I could think of was the part of, 'Peace be with you'! Thankfully everyone was happy to wave. She was getting friendly with her boyfriend, and texting on her phone the entire time. I'm new to the catholic church and this behavior was so disrespectful to the lord!
Be bold for your faith. Dress your best. I once saw a homeless man dressed his best in terribly wrinkly slacks and a corduroy jacket and mismatched tie. He did his best and God smiles 🙂
You're not overdressed. We don't get dressed for everyone else. We wear our best for God. Don't let what everyone else does dissuade you from showing Our Lord utmost reverence in the way that you are capable of. We go to Mass for Jesus. Maybe you will encourage others to dress similarly.
If you want to join a Catholic Church do you have to register with the church?, do you pay for register fee. Thank you so much for this video, May God bless you and your family 🙏🙏
There is no fee to register at any Catholic Church. If you want to become Catholic, sign up for RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults). There is no cost to sign up for or to attend RCIA. I pray you have a positive experience learning all about Catholicism. You will not regret your choice. Jesus is waiting for you. All the best as you progress in your faith journey.
What is you have a right knee only disability? Should you genuflect on left or knee do a profound bow towards tabernacle with SOC? I feel really awkward.
@@ACatholicMomsLife Thank you for the response. I’ll go with the bow for now. I have surgery Monday so, after some healing, hopefully it will not be much of an issue in the future.
Just a couple of comments - it's not necessary for a non-Catholic to fast before Mass, I believe the rule is only for Catholics who are receiving Communion. With regard to dress, I would not advise dressing as if you're going to a wedding - this could include mini-skirts, strapless or backless dresses, etc. I would recommend dressing for a job interview as a better guideline. I also don't think it's necessary for a non-Catholic to give money - this is the responsibility of Catholics to support their parish/priests. It could sound like we're paying to go to Mass!
I think I remember hearing that you do not genuflect after mass if you receive eucharist because now you have Jesus within you and you yourself is the tabernacle. Have you ever heard this? Same with sign of the cross after receiving eucharist, it is unnecessary because no extra prayer is needed now that you have eucharist. I see people do both ways.
I'm not sure it's just an encouragement since it's in Canon law as far as I know that we, women, are supposed to be wearing a head covering at Mass and in the church.
@@ashleyslack5960It's still in canon law that women are supposed to wear a head covering. It was never done away with by Vatican II. As far as I know, it was never addressed, but that means it's still in effect.
People receive communion even though they are not worthy to do so because of shame of being left out in the pews by themselves while the rest goes to the front. I was one of this kind of people for a long time and I was fully aware I did a serious sacrilege. In regard to what to wear, in third world countries, you cannot expect people to dress nice. The appeal of the Catholic church is that it is a universal church, rich and poor people can go together in a mass. If we set the dress code high, poor and peasant people will be left out in the church.

I suffer from the same issue except for large crowds, I haven’t been in since Covid 19, and before that I was fine. 💖🌟💖
I can empathise with you.I struggle to deal with the various aspects of backbiting that I often ask myself if I am really hearing.
i am attending my first morning mass on monday.

@@brittanystrausbaugh6007 I agree with you. If your daughter wants to wear modest leggings, sweatshirt, and sneakers that should be fine. its better for her to go willingly and casual because she will get more out of the mass and you will too.
Women should cover their heads.Men wear suits. Women wear dresses.
Good idea. I have a few black dresses but I think I need to buy more including black cardigans to wear. My parents always dress up for church and I should do the same more often.
I still find it so amazing, that we get to receive Jesus... think about that a moment. It always stops me in my tracks.
I know right! I just think about how good Jesus is because he knows we are unworthy of him, but he still offers himself in a sacrifice for us. 🥺🤍
Omg. U get to receive Jesus anytime, anywhere else u open it heart and especially when u help the needy.
God Bless
Thank you for this necessary information for the person who is striving to be a COMMITTED Catholic!
There is also a children's mass book on the Catholic Store website that helps them follow along, not the scriptures but the main things during mass.
due to a disability issue, i use the missal on my phone. however, i do make sure it is silenced and all notifications are turned off.
Wishing you and your family a blessed Merry Christmas and a wonderful new year! Thank you for all of your videos, they bring me such joy!!
So glad they bring you joy!
I always close my eyes in all the song in Catholic mass.
Need Gregorian Chant
Merry and blessed Christmas to all! Let’s pray that 2021 lifts the spirits and health of all in the world 🌍
Thanks
Thank you! I hope this video was helpful!
I am learning english watching your videos. Thanks God.
Merry Christmas to everyone!! Such beautiful reminders. Thank you so much
Marry Christmas Heather and your family.
Happy Christmas Heather & family. God bless and keep safe . Keep up the good work that you are doing ☘🌲
Merry Christmas Heather all da best
Our Church has a tabernacle room so we bow to the altar and genuflect to the tabernacle. Until I went to RCIA I had no idea that there was a difference. Good info in this video
One if not the worst thing that has come from COVID is the fact that people have lost all sense of being reverent. At my parish there has always been issues with this but I've noticed since COVID it has gotten exponentially worse. People literally leave and talk before the priest even leaves the alter. And these are people that know the mass and should know better. Please pray that we can become more reverent
Thank you so much for uploading this! I've yet to go to mass. Born and raised as a Southern Baptist. Ready for something new.
Did you go? What did you think?
I love sitting in the front :) No mass in my church still in Arizona :( I miss it so much. Daily UA-cam Mass is what I've been doing. 🙏 Thank you for reminding us the do' and don'ts at mass. ❤
Where are you in Az? The reason I asked is I lived AZ and their are a lot of Catholic mass in AZ the Catholic Churches are open.
I am Catholic my Husband is non-practicing Jew. I love my Catholic faith. I thank God for my life. I am not able to go to mass because of my health. Happy Holidays to you and your family. God bless you.
I am in the same boat as you. Jewish husband. But then again I bet we both whisper each week that Jesus was Jewish. How hard we have it though...
Wow it seems to be a problem every way I am in 🇬🇧 UK and every thing you was saying no to do we get this a lot , also beginning late to mass . Like you said I'm not there to judge either. Many thanks please keep up the great work you are doing. Paul.
I pray for the Christians in the UK & Ireland. There are perilous times there

What not to wear should be said as well. People need to know because there vision of what they think is modest by the culture actually isn't. Great video!
Great information! Merry Christmas!
Thank you, Heather! Merry Christmas to you and your family!!
Thanks so much for this you are beautiful inside and out. God bless you.
Why did you say do not wear anything on your head. Thank you Heather for your helpful information.
I have a autistic son and he would have sensory overload and can be loud so church have been a struggle for him
It was mentioned not to receive the Eucharist of not going to mass on Sundays. I work in a hospital on many Sundays and the Church will o.k. it.. however must be in the state of Grace to receive the Eucharist
I wasn’t aware of the fasting. Thank you.
the tradition is for those who are participating in communion
I am fasting without drinking water and no eating and I am Catholic
Don't leave the church after receiving Jesus.
Yep. Another person left dinner early...what was his name....oh, right, Judas! Lol
I agree You should dress properly. Dress like you're going out To applebee's Nice shirt nice pand shoes. I have to wear sneakers because my feet are so big it's hard to find a right Size I take size 12 In my feet are really Wide Four d.
What are you supposed to do after you receive him? Honestly asking
@@josmith5419 you do go back to the pew and kneel/sit and pray. Or reflect on having recieved Him.
I sure Enjoy Going Too Mass . I can't hardly wait until tomorrow I go to mass I'm getting excited Meeting with God and his people.
Merry Christmas and a happy Saint Joseph New Year 2021!!!❤🎄🎆🧚♂️🧚♀️😊
Merry Christmas Heather!
When you dress we're going to a Mass . You're going there to meet the Lord we need to show respect We dress our best .
Question I was once told that I cannot receive a blessing if I'm in mortal sin...
No. You just can't receive the Eucharist if you are in a state of moral sin.
As a Catholic convert I have trouble figuring out the missalettes. Different churches have different formats and some churches have none at all. How can I follow along?
God bless you and your family ma'am.
The grace of the Lord is lighting up your face and is so visible 😊
I'm new (officially) in the Catholic religion and as a result I have a lot to learn.
I've witnessed little kids going around with the Eucharist in their hands like a leftover cookie from a birthday party while the parents are watching them etc etc
I suggest you that with the blessing and the help of God, to do a more detailed video by showing step by step and with the presence of the priest of your parish, from the moment someone enters the church for the mass until they leave in their blessed way home.
And I'm a convert too. Praise be to God that we came home to the one true church 🙂 Merry Christmas!!
@@ashleyslack5960 God bless you, and welcome!
Zachariah 13:7
“Awake, sword, against my shepherd,
against the man who is close to me!”
declares the Lord Almighty.
“Strike the shepherd,
and the sheep will be scattered,
and I will turn my hand against the little ones.
8 In the whole land,” declares the Lord,
“two-thirds will be struck down and perish;
yet one-third will be left in it.
Thank you so much for this! I registered for RCIA but due to covid classes have been canceled 😓 and also not enough ppl signed up
I feel heartbroken for you.
Thank you ☺️
I do the same, you can never pray enough. The divine mercy chaplet is a pray that is also said on a rosary
Marry Christmas to you and your family 🙏🏻
Sing! People are so self conscious and forget that singing is praying twice, at the same time, it's not a show, the choir is there as a beautiful part of the celebration, no need for clapping at the end of Mass.
Completely agree!! Nobody sings anymore. And I find it pretty disrespectful when people clap at the end of mass 😓
One of my favorite priests loved to say, “Catholics have all saints in heaven, all souls in Purgatory, and all sorts on earth.” 😆
New subscriber. Converting right now (attended my second mass this week). May I ask about the icons of Jesus and Mary behind you? They are beautiful. Can you give any details about them?
If I am catholic and go up for a blessing instead of receiving the Eucharist, do I say amen after the blessing or just walk away?
Hello Heather, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year for 2021! God Bless you and your beautiful family. I come from a catholic family. My mom had 10 children. I don’t know how she did it! I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world. I have a question. The consecration of Mary, the prayer. What does it mean? I know how busy you are. If you could answer my question someday, I would appreciate it. Thank you!🙏
It is a special prayer asking Mary to be your mother and help you to grow closer to her son Jesus🥰
Thank you for answering my question. God Bless you!🙏
What to do next in case someone receives eucharest where he hasn't yet confessed some of his mortal sins. Is contrition acceptable in this case? Could you please share any thought about this?
I heard that there’s no need to go up to a priest for a blessing as the priest blesses us all at the end mass.
Merry Christmas
Amen 🙏 😊
Can Orthodox recieve the Catholic Eucharist? We share the faith of the true body and blood of Jesus in the Eucharist
I believe so, yes.
Yes, you can; however, Roman Catholics cannot partake in the Eucharist in the Orthodox Church, which is UNFAIR! www.catholic.com/tract/who-can-receive-communion
@know idont yeah, but when it comes to the eucharist we are still in communion when it comes to that
Yes you can
I have four little kids and take my kids to church all by myself becuase my husband works law enforcement hours.
Heather do you veil??
Thank you for this beautiful video💜
Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Wondering the same
I believe it's still in Canon Law that women are supposed to cover their heads. There are many reasons to do it, even if others don't.
You can go by yourself

Thanks for the informative video, as someone who isn’t catholic it kinda seems like it has very high standards to attend a Catholic Church. What if you don’t have fancy clothing? And can’t afford to buy any? Or are disabled and are unable to bend down? What if you cannot remember all the steps and things you’re expected to do? Im interested in attending but I find it very intimidating
Instead kneeling before entering the pew as soon as i enter the church i kneel and i do the sign of the cross directed at the tabernacle were Jesus should be hopefully not in a side room.
Congratulations on your pregnancy.
I also thought and I’m RCIA that you bow when you pass over the middle of the church. I’m saying that wrong. Hopefully you know why I am talking about. Lol
Yes! You are right! Whenever you go before the altar😊
You can simply fold your hands together. That is a polite way of showing you don't want to hold hands and nobody cares. People understand
I’ve been to Masses where I wore a suite and tie and was totally overdressed and out of place.
Yes exactly. Not everyone can afford dress up clothes either. Jesus came to all.
Be bold for your faith. Dress your best. I once saw a homeless man dressed his best in terribly wrinkly slacks and a corduroy jacket and mismatched tie. He did his best and God smiles 🙂
Anyone can get cheap but nice clothes at a thrift shop. Come on people.
You're not overdressed. We don't get dressed for everyone else. We wear our best for God. Don't let what everyone else does dissuade you from showing Our Lord utmost reverence in the way that you are capable of. We go to Mass for Jesus. Maybe you will encourage others to dress similarly.
You should not have felt overdressed. Perhaps everyone else was "under dressed." :-)
Sure whatever you can do, God knows your heart and that is the most important thing to remember🥰
@@ACatholicMomsLife Thank you for the response. I’ll go with the bow for now. I have surgery Monday so, after some healing, hopefully it will not be much of an issue in the future.
I can’t bend down and then get up what do I do??❤
That is okay! all we can do is what we can God understands:)
It could sound like we're paying to go to Mass!
agreed -- especially regarding your tithes /offerings - that is for the members and regular attenders!
Like and subscribed. Thanks 😊
Do you still go on your knee if you’re wearing a skirt?
Your link to book imitation of christ is not correct
A Protestant friend told me that Jesus is literally and physically being re-crucified at each and every mass? Is that true?
it's funny you say not to wear anything on your head, I think that goes for men. For women, we are encouraged to veil when we are in a holy place.
I'm not sure it's just an encouragement since it's in Canon law as far as I know that we, women, are supposed to be wearing a head covering at Mass and in the church.
The mandate went away with Vatican 2. I think it is still something we ought to do, for a myriad of reasons.
@@ashleyslack5960It's still in canon law that women are supposed to wear a head covering. It was never done away with by Vatican II. As far as I know, it was never addressed, but that means it's still in effect.
Early leavers annoy me so much, there's one more song to go🙄
I only watch people go up so I know when to go up
🙏💕
People receive communion even though they are not worthy to do so because of shame of being left out in the pews by themselves while the rest goes to the front. I was one of this kind of people for a long time and I was fully aware I did a serious sacrilege. In regard to what to wear, in third world countries, you cannot expect people to dress nice. The appeal of the Catholic church is that it is a universal church, rich and poor people can go together in a mass. If we set the dress code high, poor and peasant people will be left out in the church.
