If you see their old interviews you can tell the resentment Hyoyeon had with Taeyeon's success. Hyo trained the longest, thought being a good dancer was all there is to become famous like Boa but then a new trainee who trained less than her got Main vocal, Leader, and famous for her Osts ofc there is some animosity from Hyoyeon at the beginning and in turn made TY become less close with her but now she mellowed out and accepted her lot in life. Acceptance can really change things and open friendship.

It was the time where TY was so hard on her self and always try to be perfect in her singing that being an infj can trigger them to door slam any slacking off in that dept. We can surmise the seniority card jess can pull off anyone and cause havoc to the team dynamic that TY was forced to lead. In her books jess thinks the others were envious of her. All those sorts of things that by the time she was kicked out, the rest learned and cherished the group left hence we see them now closer and understanding of each other.
