Somehow this fits perfectly in the adventures of two japanese students, an old american, an egyptian, a french guy and a dog traveling half across the world
GGFOTN Agreed. Especially with those fucking majestic trumpets! They signify the end of this treacherous journey, with Jojo ending Dio and the rest of the song resembling the moments that both Jojo and grandpa were reminiscing the entire journey. It made me weep with warmth
Mr. Harris, this arrangement has brought me to tears. It is really something that can't be found in any other rendition of this piece I have ever found on the net. I'm really thankful for it, and I really hope someday the arrangement can be purched somewhere. It's truly beautiful.
This is a big band, and big bands don't have usually have the two vocalists that are needed for the vocal part. I think that the horn arrangement gave the same impact here.
DrummerFlex is correct. Also, the sax section has that second "voice" in the bridge and unfortunately was completely buried in the mix, which is why that countermelody is lost. Was one of the only disappointments in an otherwise solid performance.
@@scottdharrismusic nevertheless, I really loved your interpretation of the part for the brass arrangement and its punch attack instead of the soft transition of the voices. I think that even when that could be achieved, it would never covey the same effect the human voice does, yet the voice lacks the brass resources you exploited so well to place the accent where it deserved.
This has always been a magic piece of music. It is interesting to hear it played by a big band. A creditable effort but not quite the same feel as the original. Love to hear one of the big orchestras give it a go!
awesome - almost perfect. respect to the drummer for beein' so tight. only Trumpet in the beginning to double didn't fit guitar infact it was maby too high for the player - I used to play Trumpet back in youth and I'm able to imagine a critical High and a kinda nerveousity when mom and dad are in the audience ;-)
Tremendous. So well done. Faithfully arranged for big band. One of my all time favorites. Thanks for this. The section at 3:50 which replaced the vocals on the original was extremely moving. Well played, all!
Beautiful job! Everyone did such a good job. This song always reminds me of a lot of things. Mainly it reminds me of the many travels I've had and some of the great people who helped me along the way. This song always helps me humble myself and return to a simpler mindset. Peace
First a for most great job all who played this pat is proud of y’all an Omgosh pat metheny music must b the hardest to play cause he’s such an amazing talented musician
I heard this song for the first time last week on the Harmony of the Seas. The orchestra ("The High C's band) played this piece and it's been haunting me ever since. I'm glad to have found a live performance by a big band on UA-cam. Thank you for sharing this music.
That was spectacular! It made me cry to see young people playing and appreciating great Music. And doing it PERFECTLY, I think Pat Metheny might have teared himself.
Appreciate the kind words, Mark! Thanks for watching/listening. And if you’re interested, you can pick up a copy of the chart via the link in the description. Thanks again!
Pat uses an instrument that resembles a guitar, but it's not actually a guitar. I've always wondered how an actual guitar would sound, and these guys do a fantastic job. The train ambience in the beginning suited very well for the mood of the song.
Very brilliant but the whole effect of the PM Group is the drums with the high-hat emulating the train going over the tracks...This totally gets lost...Rather than emulating the sitar sound that Pat did ..another sound might have worked better.. The orchestrating and arranging is SPOT ON!! Hate to criticize.. The total effort is amazing!!
Unfortunately, the most critical point of this song is the human voice, I suppose. No lyrics but the only instrument, the human voice, says too many things.

3:50, so great and so powerful. Was not expecting it to be so epic. Reminds me of the big horn sections you hear in the DBZ games.
Thanks, Michael!
This may sound strange, but around 1:30 I'm hearing a bit of Ed Edd N Eddy.
The vocal part being played by the brass was amazing!
Bravo! Di molto!

The sudden vocals in the song were a special part in the song
I feel kinda sad that they were replaced

yeah i liked that part too, it gives off a certain feel
but holy hell did the brass take me by surprise
What vocals? I didn't heard it. Can you put a timestamp?
The brass splash for when the vocals come in, that was a fantastic adaptation!

I think Pat would be pleased!!!
I would've liked to see more build up with the intro augmented chords and such. It was really creative!
Suena increíble, la fuerza que toma es impresionante.

Huh. 6 empty seats but only 3 passengers. Wonder why they look so melancholy
何かまとまりがないビッグバンドですね。
