Really good content, dude. Really really helpful stuff here. I like this series better than SSBM tutorials vids honestly. You show better clips and stuff and help us apply things to our play.
aLow that’s awesome to hear dude, more videos coming soon! Unfortunately not next Sunday because I’m home for Christmas haha. But really glad you like it
I love this quality content for players who aren't new to the game but not great either. This is immensely helpful for someone like me who has been playing for ~2.5 years. Thank you, & keep it up!
It's really cool seeing the different play styles of the top falcos. Ppmd and Westballz both use the Up tilt and Jab>Bair. And Mango uses the D-tilt and up smash/fsmash.
Your vids are super helpful dude! Even if you don't play the character, you'll still get tons of info out of this, because you get know possible options your enemy might have. Keep up the great content and btw, are you going to make a video about Fox kill setups?
slizzee maaaaaybe. Probably. I just have a lot of videos coming before that and I’m also a Falco main so it was easy to work on this one since I have years of experience.
I just want to say that these videos are amazing! Always really high quality content. Also I'm not sure if you purposefully did this, but something I noticed is that I can watch the video without sound and still get 70% of the information, which I think is fantastic and really shows the amount of work you put into these. Keep it up!
as a player back in the day when melee came out, now comming back 6:09 felt sorta directed towards me because i checked a falco tutorial vid >.< but i know not to feel targeted because i already KNEW it was me. as a viewer of competitive melee for over 6 years xD PPMD and Westballz got me really interested in Falco. and mango is keeping the falco legacy alive
Awesome video! In addition to showing examples to the kill moves being used in real life example, could you show clips of how other characters might exploit their weak points? Just a suggestion I thought would be cool to see
Nice video. On the shine rule of thumb, I think it shouldn’t be used very often to combo floaties because it usually sends them too far up (it has more knockback than up tilt). There are some setups with shine like shine on a side platform on yoshis into shine kill off the top, this kills at lower percents than if you up tilt into shine off the top. There’s also the other pros and cons of up tilt vs shine to consider
William Zen sort of. Shine has higher base knockback, but lower knockback growth, which is why it doesn’t kill very early. I agree with everything else you’re saying though lol, but I presented the info the way I did to shorten video
William Zen like there’s lots of little nuances between the two moves, but presenting all of them could easily have added a minute to an already long video haha
William Zen well for starters, shine often combos into aerials, bair being the most common one. You can also shine and then shine again, which can setup for weird combos like shine, shine, up-b, lotsa shit haha I’m too tired to explain it all
Any chance of seeing a video made like this for Peach? Not necessarily kill setups, but "Micro"-oriented content? I like what I see so far, keep up the good work!
"if you find yourself complaining about falco's lack of kill options, it's you, not the character." truer words have never been spoken. there are so many braindead falco apologists out there complaining about their stupid character while simultaneously framing their entire playstyle around forcing execution tests and RPS.
Laser fsmash is actually an amazing kill setup if your opp is in the air. Its even better if they dont have their jump but its really good against floaties and I think this couldve been mentioned. Shiz uses this strat a lot and so do I
Yeah but does that actually combo? As far as I know when testing it didn’t. Lots of people get away with laser f-smash, myself included. That doesn’t mean it’s a reliable true combo.
Well you can jump out of it, but you have to react to the laser which a lot of people wont, and thats why I mentioned its better if theyre jumpless. A really good setup is drop downlaser from a platform when a floatie is recovering then fsmash. PP and shiz get it all the time. I even got it tons of times when I faced jamrun and almost won the set. Its not a true combo but its a great frame trap against floaties especially. Not that useful against fast fallers.
I feel like you’re arguing that I should have put more focus on something that isn’t a true combo and I still DID mention it. Of course laser f-smash lands sometimes, that’s why I put it in the video. But I don’t think I should be hyping it up as a great kill setup if you can jump out of it.
Its a great kill setup regardless of whether it can be jumped out of or not. if you take your opps jump with a laser or anything else then its basically guaranteed. but whatever bro just trying to help out. do what ya want
There were too many video examples where the move only lands and doesn't or wasn't meant to KO, imo. Examples shouldn't have been too hard to find if the moves are truly effective. But using clips of top level matches as you mention things gives you a lot of credibility, and your custom recordings demonstrate a lot of effort. Yours are the best tutorial videos I've seen.
Laser d-tilt gets you killed if you hit their sheild or miss though. Usually not worth the risk. You're basically 50/50ing their high percent stock with your any percent stock lol
Honestly feels like you’re describing a spacing problem. Depending on how you space it, the risk is mitigated, but much more importantly, this is a very silly approach to evaluating whether something is good in melee. You can easily substitute laser downtilt for something else in your “gets you killed if you hit their shield or miss” sentence and it’s still just as accurate. Of course a move is bad if it misses. Plenty of great moves that are relatively safe will get you killed if you miss or hit shield in an unsafe way. That’s melee. There’s a reason we see Laser grab, shine, down tilt, up-tilt, f-smash etc used at a high level. It’s because they’re good options. But they’re not invincible lol
Torje considering my OoT videos are worse than Melee videos, I think it should go pretty well! Feel free to DM on Twitter if you have any questions. I’m happy to help out
I was wondering if u can make a video about doing aerials back on stage from the ledge. I’ve been having lots of problems with getting back on stage safely these videos are great btw. Helping with my falco!

I have a question on one of his set up with up-throw. When someone di in the falco up-throw, he is getting in my back, not in front of me so i can't just dair him. what type of Di was in your video? Slight di in ?
Ya Boi nope lol, otherwise there would be a video for it! I might make a video for Fox kill options, but if I do it won’t be for a while. This video took waaaay too long
I tested some of the kill % shown in the spreadsheet and some were not correct,(with falco's dtilt) for example, peach in DreamLand dies at 129% from the middle of the stage and not 128% as the spreadsheet says
@@mrMario468 There's still some version differences and variance within the game. Examples include PAL, but also 1.00 games vs 1.02. If for example, you tested on your gamecube, on a 1.00 disc, you might find certain differences. In the case of my spreadsheet, I didn't test this in game, I tested this using ikneedata.com which is usually accurate. It's worth mentioning that these numbers do NOT include smash DI as a factor. Are you positive that the CPU/opponent you tested it on wasn't doing smash DI? I know with certain bots, they have them SDI like 1/3 of the time, which would extend how long a character can live. I didn't account for smash DI intentionally, for a couple reasons: - SDI could potentially lower the percent that you live until, as well as increase it. Depends on the SDI. - Greatly increases testing complexity - SDI is not something the average player plays against, especially on d-tilt, up-tilt etc.
@@Radarssbm oh yeah i tested it in game, with save states so I was able to perform my own DI cuz I didnt want any Cpu DI as they tent to do crazy DI sometimes, also I only use the c-stick DI and hold an prob just one imput in the analog stick since good players will do at least that im gonna check that site will do my work much easier lol
