Let's Photograph The Iris Nebula

- The Iris Nebula is a beautiful reflection nebula in the constellation Cepheus. Not too far from the Elephant's Trunk Nebula. The Iris Nebula shines with a wonderful blue glow and is a joy to target, as well as the challenge of controlling dust, nebulosity and the bright star in the middle. Using an Altair Astro Hypercam 183c I was able to photograph the Iris Nebula during a nice night in summer. It was a great session.
The Iris Nebula reminds me of a bright pearl in space, surrounded by the clamshell of its blue nebula. I had a nightmare of a time troubleshooting why my PHD guiding suddenly just wasn't having any of it. I could hardly get any work done. I even lost a super clear bank holiday weekend (like, that hurt a lot!) to it. But I seem to have it sorted now!

This video was 100% worth watching purely for the irish interlude. It's lovely to see talented and skilled people being humble and sharing their success and errors. Love this.
I love it that you embrace your mistakes via humor! Never take yourself too seriously. Thanks for the video!
😁 I never take myself too seriously and humour is always a winner :) thanks for the comment!
Have been watching this video while photographing the Iris Nebula :-)
Man, I'm jealous of that guiding chart! Great video.
Thank you! It felt good getting that sort of guidance, especially with all the issues I was having previous to that. Still doesn't feel like it's real and it'll just break any moment now 😂
Great image of the Iris, caught the outer nebulosity well ..nice work
Thanks very much!
Now that's a really good image, very well done!
Thank you very much! :D I'm very proud of it - I think it may be my best to date.
Very good work!
Thank you very much 😁
Awsome Image..!! You had a Great Session. My fav part is when you was like “ I am NOT Touching it “ haha..!!

What is your thoughts on the Explore Scantific ED102 with a Celestron CGEM Mount..??
Hey thank you! Yeah, it was a really good session. It had been a while since I felt relaxed enough to use team viewer and go do my own thing!
Hmm sadly I can't really comment about those too. I'd definitely have an Explore Scientific refractor though. They're high quality from what I know. I seen Trevor at AstroBackyard use a ES 102 I think it was to great effect. As for the mount, again, no personal use or first hand knowledge. Again though, seen a lot of people use a CGEM to good effect. I'd love to get first hand use of that equipment, but my budget can't afford that :D
Great image Ruzeen, had similar issues with PHD last time I was out, but until this cloud clears I cant resolve my issues so wont be posting any images in UKCM until.
Thanks mate. ah sorry to hear you've been having PHD issues as well! You probably seen me ranting and raving about it in UKCM lol what procedure have you tried to get it working? I hope you can get some clear skies to try it again!
I drop H's with my accent sometimes, so it's interesting to discover someone who ads H's :D "Irish" nebula, there should be one :D
Cheeky bit of Irish nebula. I may not be done with that slip of the tongue yet though 😁 may have to do something special for St Paddy's Day

Stacey? Who's that? Only a rookie will tell you to stop dithering, it's your friend so don't. Amp glow calibrate out just fine with Darks. then it doesn't matter All what matters is what comes out in the end and I think you've done well there considering the 2000 Gain :D
AstroStace did :p and admittedly when I didn't dither this I didn't see the ghostly remains of the electroluminescent glow like I did on one image where I did dither :D
I don't think this one has 2000 gain in it. I forgot to write that bit down :o
@@AstroFarsography no idea who she is sorry :) This hobby is getting so crowded (in a good way) which helps us learn stuff but then new folks jump in and think they know everything about everything in a few months time giving insane advice which is what I hate because rather than leading you to the right path, they lead you to a completely wrong one :) I would personally take Stacey's advice with a pinch of salt of I were you :)
Amp glow is the nature of the CMOS sensors. There will always be some aspects of it and darks take care of it all the time. Dithering like I said is your friend, don't shy away from it :)
@@ahmedrizwankhan I understand what you're saying. Yes it can get crowded and gets very busy. Everyone has their ideas. Its like when you ask "what telescope should I buy?" And you'll get a million different answers.
Stacey Downton. She put me on to buying the HyperCam 183c and has effectively tutored me in how to get the bang for my buck out of this camera :D I dithered on a whirlpool galaxy image, which was also 3 minute shots and the glow didn't calibrate out. I didn't dither on this, and it calibrated out.
From what I've learnt in research and asking, amp glow eminates from the bottom corners mainly and not a large starburst look on the right hand side. It's apparnelty called electroluminescent glow :D
Lol! 😂
Dither or die 😂 and yes I may be a rookie compared to some, but I know a lot about sensors and you know nothing about me. So before you go trashing me on others videos take the time to have a chat with me :)
