    I much prefer the method that you used, ie attaching a duck (or second back up). This is what I've always done 'in the field'.
    However, when I did my level 1 we were taught to tie a second alpine loop in the back up line and then clip a cowstail into the new knot that you've just tied and then move your asap above the knot being passed.
    I don't really know why I was trained this way as like I said, I find it much quicker and easier to use a second back up in the same way that you did.
    I suppose it's a case of 'horses for courses'. 😂😂
