  • In this video we will be working on a pair of Lucchese Classics in ostrich belly. We will be adding a sole protecter but not the usual half sole style sole protecter. The heel base will be removed to add a full length sole protecter over top of the leather soles, the heel base will be re-attached and a Vibram top lift heel will be added to help give these western boots a longer life and better traction.

    Very smart to do this while the boots are still new.

    Beautiful professional work... but I can't help but wonder, how much does something like this generally cost to do.

    Hey. Good work, brother. I live in CO. I just got some pre-owned Lucchese Classics full quill ostrich with smooth ostrich shafts. The dude had them since 1993 when he bought them new. Do you got tips or recommendations on cleaning them before I try them on/wear them? I’d like to clean them inside and out. Otherwise I can always send them to you for cleaning. Thanks!

    I totally understand as a professional cobbler your job is to do what the customer is paying you for. That being said I honestly don't get the sole protector on this boot considering you have to remove the heal and the have to aggressively sand down the original sole. At this point your not that far from resoleing the entire boot. Not knowing the difference in price from a total resole and what you did to the boot I can only guess it's probably not not mich difference. Again only guessing! But, to me this just doesn't make any sense. Why not just wear the original sole and then resoleing when needed. Especially considering by doing the work you've done ,the original fit and feel has been changed. What exactly is the benefit of doing this? I can't think of any pros ,just cons. Anyways thanks for the video! I've watched for some time now and I've been impressed with your work. I honestly wished there was a comparable cobbler in my area that I could have my boot repair done.

      Some cobblers will suggest that sole savers are best put on when new, as this will assist in 'keeping the shape of original sole in shape'.

    I can understand why he might want the vibram (maybe he wants to use them for motorcycling, etc.) as I want all of my outdoor boots to have a vibram sole. However, I do not understand ANY advantage of taking off the heel base....?

    Hi, is it possible to alter my late father's Lucchese's into a women's size ( of course I mean for myself) , his shoe size is not too big, 8.5 and I'm 7 in women's. Im sure it would be expensive, but I was just wondering if it's even possible, what a treasure it would be to be able to wear his boots :)

      I have heard of and seen videos where boots were re-lasted to a smaller size. I bet Cobblers Plus can tell you if they can do it or not. He seems very talented

    Awesome vidéo many thanks . I have the same one in square toe. 2 questions : do you know a good cobbler in Austin ? For those heel cap Vikman which thickness did you use ?

    • @CobblersPlus
      @CobblersPlus  2 роки тому +1

      Unfortunately I’m not familiar with cobblers in TX and the heel caps we use typically are GTO because they tend to grip a little more on the heel strick

    How long should the sole protectors be allowed to "cure" before wearing the boots? What if they're worn a few hours after they're installed? Will they come off the sole?

    • @CobblersPlus
      @CobblersPlus  3 роки тому

      We usually prefer to let them cure at least 12 hours before wear and even that is usually rushing it. You might not see damage right away but is it’s only been a few hours before you wear them small pockets of air will form under the sole from it shifting and will make the sole come apart faster, wear faster or even start to squeak
