If a teacher gets valid criticism from his students, or their students, then the teacher has done an amazing job. Dr Hahn, you brought me back to The Church in the days of the cassette tape, and still you strengthen our knowledge of the faith. Thank you!
When I became Catholic in 2001 was when I was given Rome Sweet Home and then the cassette set Answering Common Objections which included "Why We Have A Pope" which helped me immensely coming from a SDA background with their extreme view of the papacy. Afterward I was inspired to go on for my BA and MTS in Theology. Thank you and God bless you, Dr. Hahn!
With Dr. Hahn’s reputation and scholarship, this video is no small matter. Thank you for modeling humbleness and love for truth for our faith and for the Church. And I say this only as an OCIA/RCIA student, but your teachings have helped light my way.
Dr. Hahn, you are a true example of humility. I love that you were able welcome correction rather than doubling down. Something that is quite rare these days and something we need a whole lot more of!
It is a great sign of humility for one to own up to their mistake and make corrections. Dr. Scott Hahn, thank you for teaching me a great lesson in humility. God bless you 🙏
I thank you Scott for the example of a Christ follower’s response to acknowledging “fraternal correction “ . It takes courage and what ever ones view on the point raised your willingness to express your journey to this point has helped me considerably .
It is always right to submit to correction, in all humility. However, I think that Scott Hahn was correct the first time. Jesus Christ alone is the Head of the Church. The Bishop of Rome does have some charisms, however, he could not, in any sense, be said to be, in his own person “The Head of the Church” - if for no other reason than that, when there is no Pope, there is no “Head of the Church”. That cannot possibly be right. Within the confines of the Vatican City State, the Pope has absolute authority as Sovereign ruler of that small territory. However, outside his own sovereign dominions, that autocratic and absolute authority does not extend.
Thank you Dr. Hahn. I am grateful for your humility and your obvious love for Jesus and the Church he established. The testimony of your conversion to the Catholic faith in The Lamb's Supper was very instrumental in recently bringing me back to the Church and opening my eyes to the beauty of the Mass. You have impacted and continue to touch many lives through your open response to God's call. May God continue to bless you.❤

This was/is paramount for the unity of our church. God be praised as everything happens for a reason . I am not what one would call a " very smart" person, but the pope has been stitched to my heart since childhood. He is Christ's and therefore he is mine. I do believe in blind faith as that is true faith and God gives us permission to love, follow and defend His Pope in his teaching, no matter what! I pray that the Holy Pontiff will be seen in the proper light , the light of Christ. Thank you , Dr. Hahn , as this should have a beautiful impact on many hearts. Peace of Christ be yours.
Dr Hahn, this was truly humble and charitable. God bless you. You continue to be such a wonderful teacher, bringing many into the Church and sustaining us within. I watched the interview with Matt and understood exactly what you meant, as well as the tenor of relaxed conversation. I hope anyone who was confused is happy now. This is such a ‘hot button’ issue, at a time when we are living with, let’s be honest, confusion. What distresses me the most is that we are being driven apart and I’m sure the devil is loving it. Please, some of you (not all) who love and defend the Holy Father, recognise the plank in your eye and stop calling people ‘rad trads’ ( I’ve sen some “popesplainer” epithets too, so you too!). Thank you Dr. Hahn for your humility. I appreciate the care you took in responding to this and retracting your statement. With that said, recently you made another troubling statement that I also believe requires retraction and clarification. In your talk at FUS on your new book, you said that “we know the popes have taught heresy” and cited Pope John XXII. However, when I looked into his story and the context, it was abundantly clear that he did not teach heresy. He held an erroneous minority theological view and stated it as his personal opinion, but he never “taught” it as we use that term, let alone from his chair as you claimed. Furthermore, this view was not deemed heretical until after he had died. I would really appreciate it if you could respond to this, as I think the claim you made is simply mistaken and does great damage to the Church and its infallible head.
I feel like I knew what he was originally saying or at least what he was trying to say. But this will be helpful for a lot of people that needed the clarity.

God Bless Dr.Hahn for having your insights and understanding of how Church structure is just as Christ intended, only humble people recognize their errors.
I don’t disagree with Scott. Christ is the head of the mystical body of Christ in heaven where the Pope is the head on earth, of course the Pope’s authority comes from Christ himself. Probably just a lot of misunderstanding all over the internet.
No misunderstanding. If that’s all he said he wouldn’t have gotten any criticism. He went further and said to say the the Pope is the head of the Church is heretical. That was the issue. He is very humble to have reversed himself.
I get get so much from your and the St. Paul’s Center. Thank you. I used to think only Prodestants knew scripture. Now I know Prodestants stole and twisted our beautiful Catholic teachings
A bit harsh on the average Protestant who is protected, as far as the Catholic Church is concerned, by the kind and Christian doctrine of “invincible ignorance”. That is to say, it is not their fault that they were born and educated in ignorance of the truths of the Catholic Faith and the Church considers, in charity, that, if they did know and understand everything correctly, that they would probably wish to become Catholics.
So very admirable, sir! You have given us a very edifying example of humility, which will yield a hundredfold harvest. I am indebted to your scholarship as well as your wonderful example! Both are true gifts for the Church. Adelante!
Thank you very much!!! GOD Bless you!!! You're basically a saint to me... You helped me revert back to my Catholic faith! 💕💕💕 I hope you will consider too the support you gave bishop Snieder's book, credo... It's also a source of "possible " dissention to Pope Francis and the Magisterium.... 🙏🙏🙏
Benedict XVI - MASS OF POSSESSION OF THE CHAIR OF THE BISHOP OF ROME Saturday, 7 May 2005 “The Pope is not an absolute monarch whose thoughts and desires are law. On the contrary: the Pope's ministry is a guarantee of obedience to Christ and to his Word. He must not proclaim his own ideas, but rather constantly bind himself and the Church to obedience to God's Word, in the face of every attempt to adapt it or water it down, and every form of opportunism.”
Christ delights in this. If I know anything at all, I would die by that statement. “…it’s me doing a favor to me, to the Lord and His people.” -Christ loves this.
The Pope recently stated that all religions lead to heaven. So, forget what Catholics say about themselves, any religion will do according to the head of the Church.
I wish he would also retract his signing off on CREDO by bishop Schneider which teaches a few things in opposition to what the Catholic Church really teaches
Colossians 1:18-20 Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything. For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through him God reconciled everything to himself.
It's good to see the clarification and redaction on the topic of the Papal headship. But did I miss the bigger issue of Dr. Han claiming there was a heretic pope?
Good on Scott - setting a great example of accepting fraternal correction. My only puzzlement is what heretics was he talking about even after making the proper distinction. I don’t know anyone who does assert the Pope is the head of anything other than the Church Militant. Maybe it was just an abstract point . But I think people feared it unintentionally gave aid and comfort to those who are “resisting” and even advocating disobedience to Pope Francis
This is an admirable example to us all. However, respectfully, I wonder if Scott might also address his support of the Schneider Catechism which contains several errors and extreme positions which go against the Magisterium. That problematic book will lead some already quasi-schismatic Catholics even further away from the great heritage of JPII and BXVI.
@@CatsHeartbeat How about for a start the ones where he explicitly says he is rejecting magisterial statements found in the catechism etc. His accusations of papal error are also technically incorrect. His audacious redefinition of schism to suit the positions of his friends in the SSPX (to whom he seems to want to draw ever closer) is very dangerous. What he says about human dignity and about Judaism are at odds with the texts of Vatican II. People would be so much better off sticking with the splendor of truth found in the real Magisterium of the Church. That catechism is clearly an attempt by a disgruntled auxiliary bishop to establish an alternative one. I genuinely wonder if Scott who is such a great scholar actually read the entire thing before endorsing it…
@@CatsHeartbeat there's a video by Reason and Theology that compares Credo with magisterial documents, and when they disagree. These include the definition of schism, criminals losing human dignity, and dissent from the magisterium even in fallible teachings.
Let us all give "religious submission of mind and will" to all teaching of Francis without exception as per Lumen Gentium 25: "This religious submission of mind and will must be shown in a special way to the authentic magisterium of the Roman Pontiff, even when he is not speaking ex cathedra; that is, it must be shown in such a way that his supreme magisterium is acknowledged with reverence, the judgments made by him are sincerely adhered to, according to his manifest mind and will. His mind and will in the matter may be known either from the character of the documents, from his frequent repetition of the same doctrine, or from his manner of speaking."
Thank God for inspiring converts and humble Servants of God like you, Scott Hahn. I love your life story of conversion to the Catholic Faith. It is one of my favorite conversion stories, next to the conversion of St. Paul to the Christian Faith. God bless you now more than ever. But am I being heretical in my belief that the Title Head of all the Churches should only be attributed to our Lord Jesus Christ, and not to any other human leader, including the Vicar of Christ? Doesn't the title Vicar of Christ end upon the death of the person that held that position? I would welcome being corrected if I am completely wrong. Thank you, Scott, and may you remain the humble and faithful Servant of God that you have proven yourself to be.
In addition, isnt it illogical, and can I say heretical, to imply that the Pope, human that he is, is the head not only of the Church Militant, but also of the Church Triumphant and Church Suffering, which only our Lord Jesus Christ, the God that He is, can possibly head?
You are correct. Jesus Christ alone is Head of the Church. What Scott Hahn is trying to argue is that the Bishop of Rome, given particular charisms by Our Lord, in particular, that of “confirming the brethren” shares in the Headship of Christ and, for that reason, might also be properly be described as “Head” of the Church. I am not able to agree with that. All Bishops of the Catholic Church, acting together, in an Ecumenical Council of the Church, share in the teaching authority of Our Lord and therefore, in some way, also share in his headship of the Church. However, Councils come and go and Bishops of Rome come and go. There was a period at one time when there was no Bishop of Rome for as long as three years. Who was “Head” of the Church during this period? Was Our Lord Head in person for those three years, being subsequently ousted on the appointment of the next Bishop of Rome? Pope Francis has refused the titles of “Vicar of Christ”and of “Pontifex Maximus” since these are grand titles which go beyond his particular charism, as Bishop of Rome that of “confirming the brethren”. Pope John XXIII made it clear that he did not believe in the doctrine of Papal Infallibility, at least as far as he himself was concerned. He stated, specifically, on being asked about this doctrine “Well, I can assure you that I shall never teach infallibly. As I understand the doctrine, I could only teach infallibility if I specifically stated that I was teaching infallibly - and that I shall never do.” In 1870, the Archbishop of Paris refused to agree to the dogma and many of the American Bishops stated openly that they considered the proposed dogma to be blasphemous. It has never, in fact, ever been used.
@@Mark3ABE Thank you for clarifying that and for the other information you stated that is news to me. I'm relieved to hear that the term "infallibility" is no longer in use. I personally do not agree with applying that term to a particular person including a Pope, who is a weak human being prone to error and sin, just like St. Peter himself. If theres anything that needs to be corrected or removed completely from the Church teaching, i believe it's the "infallibility of the Pope" which for me is heretical. Wouldnt it be more true to form to say that the Magisterium of the Catholic Church is infallible on the basis that the truths and teachings it has established are inspired and or directed by the Holy Spirit. This is based on my understanding (correct me if I'm wrong) that the Magisterium is a body composed of the Order of Bishop which includes the Pope as the Leader.
If only - IF ONLY! - our clergy and prelates - especially the prelates! - were as gracious as Dr. Hahn in owning their statements that generated confusion among us Roman Catholics. Especially hoping that one very particular prelate follows suit. HC-JAIPUR (28/11/2023) .
When light shines in the darkness it illuminates all those areas where no barriers exist. Where barriers are, walls and constructs that seem to prevent the light from penetrating, the illumination does not seem to be able to penetrate. Modern science, though, has shown us that the energy of light does penetrate even the depths of the earth. So let us acknowledge that the light which comes from God's love is unstoppable no matter what barriers exist until the point where we reject the impact that God intends which is to give us the power to respond to His love by radiating it to others.

Our Church needs a united message as opposed to many American UA-camrs who spread anger and division. God Bless!
Including this pope promoting scandal.❤
PERHAPS you needed to do this 'clarification' but listened to your interview with Matt, and understood you in the 'sense and meaning' you purported at the time. God bless you and please don't get draw into "straining the gnat and swallowing the camel", potentially 😊.
It's so good to hear that. Thank you. Brazil 🇧🇷
Thank Dr. Hanh, as always you are an inspiration for all of us to follow. May God bless you 🙏🏽
God Bless Dr.Hahn for having your insights and understanding of how Church structure is just as Christ intended, only humble people recognize their errors.
You are absolutely Correct Scott Hahn! Jesus is the Head of the Church! His Church on this Earth and his Kingdom in Heaven.
Thank God for this clarification, and thank you, Dr Hahn, for correcting your error.
Thank you for all you've done for the Church
Dr. Hahn is an inspiration and an endless font of wisdom.
You have taught us more now in your humble acceptance of brotherly correction than you have done in your works. Thanks
So very admirable, sir! You have given us a very edifying example of humility, which will yield a hundredfold harvest. I am indebted to your scholarship as well as your wonderful example! Both are true gifts for the Church. Adelante!
Thank you Dr Hahn
Sadly, many took that thought and ran with it! I’m glad Dr. Scott H is cleaning it up!
O God that l may become this brave and humble. Be blessed Scott Hahn❤
It's clear here why the devil hates humility. God bless you Scott!
Thank you!
I shared that podcast with so many people as it gave hope and some direction and clarification.
What a class act. God bless you, Scott. I’ll ask for your heavenly intercession one day.
Thank you very much!!!
GOD Bless you!!! You're basically a saint to me... You helped me revert back to my Catholic faith! 💕💕💕
I hope you will consider too the support you gave bishop Snieder's book, credo... It's also a source of "possible " dissention to Pope Francis and the Magisterium.... 🙏🙏🙏
Benedict XVI -
MASS OF POSSESSION OF THE CHAIR OF THE BISHOP OF ROME
Saturday, 7 May 2005
“The Pope is not an absolute monarch whose thoughts and desires are law. On the contrary: the Pope's ministry is a guarantee of obedience to Christ and to his Word. He must not proclaim his own ideas, but rather constantly bind himself and the Church to obedience to God's Word, in the face of every attempt to adapt it or water it down, and every form of opportunism.”
Thank God for you Scott.
Excellent . Thankyou Dr.Scott.
❤ Scott Hanh thank you for clarifying.
Christ delights in this. If I know anything at all, I would die by that statement.
“…it’s me doing a favor to me, to the Lord and His people.” -Christ loves this.
Ah Scott... Bless you for coming on and humbley clarifying your point.. Go easy there and thank you for all you do for the faith.. CK
Wasn’t even aware of the “kerfuffle”, but right is right and Scott Hahn is a man of good will. Peace to all; catastrophe avoided!
I'll never argue with Dr H. Those who are against his teaching don't know work. I love you, Dr H
Love to see this! Tom Scott (big UA-camr) recently did a video correcting every mistake he himself has made since 2014.
the fact that you want to clarify what you said in the interview says volumes about who you really are. You are a true follower of Christ
The Pope recently stated that all religions lead to heaven. So, forget what Catholics say about themselves, any religion will do according to the head of the Church.
14:56 you finally get the Pope 's relationship with Christ spot on. Most Protestants do not understand this truth and the beauty of it. Well said!
I wish he would also retract his signing off on CREDO by bishop Schneider which teaches a few things in opposition to what the Catholic Church really teaches
Colossians 1:18-20
Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body.
Beautiful witness
Thank you for this video!
What are the "errors and extreme positions that goes against Magisterium" to which you refer?
Have you read Credo?
Does the Pope not have to protect the Doctrine, Magisterium and Tradition of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church?
he has to, and he will not definitively fail to do that. That's the promise of Jesus, that's the doctrine of the indefectibility of the church
God have mercy on my soul if I am being heretical.
Great explanation, and thank you for Rome Sweet Home (make me stay in the True church)...Gbu
If only - IF ONLY! - our clergy and prelates - especially the prelates! - were as gracious as Dr. Hahn in owning their statements that generated confusion among us Roman Catholics. Especially hoping that one very particular prelate follows suit.
HC-JAIPUR (28/11/2023)
.
Who is the one particular prelate you are talking about?
@@ndumferdy2545Nice try.
You are clarifying confusion, something the Vatican leaders almost never do.
