    The pentax 50mm 1.7 was one i regretted selling, the focus is so smooth but no too resistive, and the construction is fantastic.

      How is the Xe2 working out with the m42 lenses? I’m looking at buying a fujifilm camera just for using m42 lenses on.

    My father had Pentax ME with few lenses...28mm f2.8, 50mm f1.7, 135mm f3.5 and Ricoh 200mm f4....and I use this lenses with my Fujifilm X-T1, and it’s amazing

    i was given the same setup! I've just rented (with option to buy) a 2nd hand fuji 56mm 1.2 lens and am comparing it with my pentax 1.7 at the moment.. there is not a whole lot of difference and in some cases the pentax is nicer. still needs further testing tho before i decide.

    I use vintage glass all the time...This month I'm mostly shooting old Konica primes on the Xpro 1....I wish there was a speed booster adapter for Konica but there is not..I do have Zhongyi focal reducers for Nikon and M42 to Fuji and yes....They are a game changer...

    I've got the f1.4 version of this lens. Perfect colours and bokeh smoother and creamier than any I've ever seen on even the most expensive modern lenses. Probably the best 50mm lens ever made.

    Gotta agree with you on the SMC Pentax-M 50mm f/1.7 lens. I like it so much I have two of them. Actually I bought one for my Pentax K-5II. Then I decided to Get a ME Super. Found one and it came with the same lens. Both are in great condition. Unfortunately I lost the ME Super and all my film to Hurricane Harvey. So now I stick with the DSLR and use the lenses on it. Don't even need an adapter. Just attach the K mount lens to the K mount Pentax camera(s) I have a Pentax K10D as well!

    Good to know. I still have (and use) several Pentax bodies (K1000, KM, KX, LX, ME, MX and K-5) and a giant heap of lenses between 2.0/24 and 4/300. As standard lenses there are the mentioned 1.7/50 and the legendary 1.8/55. I also had the 2/50, that came with the K1000, but I sold that one for almost no money. Being utterly interested in the X-E4, your video helped me a lot in deciding whether or not to buy the X-E4. Unfortunately it does not have IBIS, but on the other hand, none of my cameras has... 😂

    I bought mine for 20 euros in mint condition for 2 or three years ago. Bought a minolta SRT 101 with a mc rokkor 55/ 1.7 last week for 16 euros. Heard good things about this lens.The problem is that i need a minolta adapter. By the way M42 adapters are very useful because there are plenty of vintage lenses with this mount...like the wonderful helios 44-2.

  • @shred3005

    Still use my film Pentax MX with that lens. Wonderful traditional photography. The tactile feel is great.
    I’ve recently got a Fuji X-E4 for lightweight, discrete street photography so I might get an adapter to try some of my lovely old Pentax SMC glass. The X-E4 is nice enough, decent image quality but the EVF still isn’t anything as nice as the optical viewfinder on my MX or particularly my Pentax K-1 full frame DSLR. That’s still peak photography for me but not discrete

    • @DamianBrown

      Brett, you must get an adapter! You'll love using your Pentax lenses with the Fujifilm.

    I gotta do more vintage lens exploration. I shoot a lot of video for my channel with the X-T20 and I'd like to find more manual focus lenses with interesting optics for other projects. I also just like the look of these older lenses like the one in your video. Decisions decisions!

    On a Fuji APSC sensor, does the 50mm lens result in a 75mm zoom? Or does the adapter result in a 50mm full frame equivalent regardless of the crop sensor.

    • @DamianBrown
      @DamianBrown  6 років тому +1

      75mm, the adapter is pretty "dumb". You need a speed booster style adapter to reduce the focal length.

    • @VedantaDhobley
      @VedantaDhobley 6 років тому

      @@DamianBrown Ok that's what I was expecting, thank you for the information and video :)

    does th fujifilm change the focal length of the lens? Because it is a apsc sensor?

    • @DamianBrown
      @DamianBrown  2 роки тому

      The sensor being 1.5x the size of a 35mm sensor, that most lens focal lengths are based on, results in the resulting focal length equivalent being 1.5x the number. So yes a 50mm lens will produce a 75mm equivalent focal length on this sensor.

      @@DamianBrown maybe i need to get used to this lens, just got it - the pentax: How can I avoid distortion? I took a photo on my balcony, a overview of the street, now the lanterns in the street are not straight anymore , but distorted , bowed. Is there a golden rule how to avoid (barrel) distortion? I also feel the lens gives a little shaky view, maybe because the focal lenght is longer because of the lens adapter. Anyway, on both the meike and this lens i have this distortion and I thought it would not be on this Pentax lens, but it is, so I guess I do something wrong?
