How to Get to Wat Doi Suthep From Chiang Mai by Songthaew (Pickup Truck Taxi)

If you are willing to pay extra, 100 Bhat per person each way instead of 50 Bhat, the drivers will take you up and down the mountain without the 10 person minimum. We went with only 3 of us.

This Songthaew stop is just outside the main entrance of Chiang Mai University, less than 50 meters west of the entrance. The approximate address is;
239 Huay Kaew Rd, Suthep, Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai 50200, Thailand.
I’m not sure about the latest pick up time but I imagine that it’s probably fairly late in the day, possibly until 6 or 7 pm. I will try to find out what time Wat Doi Suthep closes each day and let you know, as the closing time probably determines what time the songthaew’s stop running.

Wat Doi Suthep is open from 6 am to 8 pm daily, I’m guessing the Songthaew’s stop going up the mountain around 6 or 7 pm.

Yes, when you take the songthaew up to Doi Suthep, you have the same driver and vehicle in both directions, up and back. Most drivers give you about 3 hours to explore the temple and grounds, however the timeframe is negotiable depending on how many people are in your vehicle and if you’re willing to pay a little extra for extra time. Negotiating is different with each driver, generally they all want you to have enough time and enjoy your experience.
