Dickey Betts gave a lot of credit to Chuck Leavell and said he really made the song “Jessica” great.🎹🎵

That first iteration of the ABB is immortal - I mean, here we are, 50 years later and the music has not aged at all, they were that good. Even w/out Duane and Berry, they were really good for a season. Genius hard to capture.....

Over in England back in 1971, I remember the day someone showed up with 'Live at the Fillmore east'. It was a total revelation. From that day, everything was forever changed for me musically in a very positive sense - RIP Dickey Betts. God Bless You.

Between BLack oak and Allman brothers Southern Rock was the best of both worlds
and now just good memories and song
Dickie played one savage melodic guitar and remains a legend of this style forever .

Been a heavy influence since the 70's and started the whole twin lead guitar sound with Duane, he was a feel player. R.I.P. Dickey Betts

And yet, I read Chuck's saying how Dickey was very rude to him in the beginning, calling him 'Beethoven' and making snide remarks, and Chuck's saying, why does this guy have puffy sleeves and why is he such a jerk?

Derek and the Dominoes (Eric Clapton with Duane Allman and others)
      Marshall Tucker
      Charlie Daniel's Band
      Lynyrd Skynyrd
      Wet Willy
Molly Hatchet (ALL of their members have passed on to that great big gig in the SKY!)
      Grinder Switch
      J.J. Cale
I don't know what you listened to, but all of those bands and musicians were top notch.
Even their kids and cousins are keeping the Southern Rock alive.
