I've been coast to coast probably thirty times and more, ever since I was two years old, with memories of that trip. I'm going again next summer, just to see the sights. America truly does look like depicted! I've also been around the world a few time, courtesy of my "Uncle Sam". I love this country, always have. I'll be seventy in a couple of years and hope to make it past a century, like a couple friends have.

I remember one day that was so cold in upstate NY that it actually hurt my lungs to breathe in the air. It felt as if tiny ice crystals were forming in my lungs.

You can survive at -45°F, but major snow suit, a couple of scarves to 'breathe through" & snow goggles... and do not stay out too long....

I believe that yes,the weather can be extreme, and the people, don’t forget everybody else comes here, the news especially with phones recordings every where. So any body with an opinion good or bad gets to say whatever they want for some likes on social media. We are constantly kept an eye on from the rest of the world, not recognized for all the good it does, but certainly pointed out by the media and guests when something is wrong.

I'm not proud of how much we give when we have Americans in need, yet we have to watch our country give billions away. I'm sick of it.

@djwinchell America giving money away is what i was talking about. I'm American, and we're always giving money away, and yet we have over 30 trillion dollars worth of debt.

A lot of things you see on YT and social media are exaggerated or just flat out wrong. Other things are extreme, such as weather and about a third of us who have lost their minds politically.

Some of them are AI disinformation bots or trolls from other countries stoking division. I believe that China was doing this in the UA-cam comments for a while. I remember noticing comments with really strange grammar that reminded me of reading the poorly written instructions of certain Chinese products.

So it took an Englishman to immediately realize the biased nature of the news networks. maybe because in his country and many others they have more than just two choices and don’t have to decide the lesser of two evils or the lesser of two liars ,keyword.2 We need at least three. And not just an independent extremist throwaway vote.

That frozen nose hair is a thing😂. I'm originally from the Chicago area. Yes we went out all the time in that kind of weather and back when I was kid (born in 1957) you went to school unless it was a full blown blizzard.

What one has to remember is that the deadliest animal in North America is the Whitetail Deer. Getting Bambi though your windshield at freeway speed can be fatal.

A lot of dealing with extreme temperatures is about familiarity and perspective. Once you've spent a few weeks below, say, 10F, 0C's pleasant enough, at least if you're out of the wind. My own experiences range from -40C/F to 120F+ in the shade, so I can experience quite a range before I gripe about the outdoor temperature.
As for familiarity, that's where you learn how to cope with the temp as it approaches either extreme, including dress and activities. Proper clothing on each end's a must, and so's knowing how to plan your outdoor activities, so you don't get into trouble. Here in northern MN, many folks keep a blanket in their cars, in case of breakdown, and having lived in the southern end of the midwest I'll carry water in the summertime, too.

Do hope people can realize that the profit motive is the same for podcasts, UA-cam channels, and mainstream media. Online talking heads are more accessible, granted, but it doesn't mean they're always preaching from the good of their heart. Engagement ultimately equals dollars. I think that's important to keep in mind if/when a podcast is pushing their audience toward extremism.

We get -40 here in Quebec a couple times a year, usually in February, you learn to cover your face and hands but other than that, "its a dry cold" as we say ... We're used to it I guess.

Ilive in an extreme area in California. summer temp reaches over 120F (48.889C) and yet Winter it is below freezing with snow. Love the snow, hate the summer! Drought most of the 27 years 'I've been stuck here! Give me the east coast, not west coast please! But I love America!

Why I fear bears so much.
    Quote:
"When you’re eaten by a bear, they’re very different from other predators, in that a lion or a tiger or a big cat is going to dispatch their prey and bite through the windpipe or do something to kill it, so they can then drag it somewhere to consume it safely. A bear doesn’t do that; a bear will literally sit on you and eat you. Often these people die by bleeding out, and it takes a long time. It’s 10 to 15 minutes of this bear sitting on you eating you alive, not ripping out necessary organs or something to kill you."

Lions sometimes eat their prey alive. There is a video on UA-cam showing Lions eating a live zebra if, UA-cam hasn't taken it down as violent content. Cheetahs often eat gazelles live because Cheetahs do not have as strong enough jaws to easily dispatch their prey. Cats are notorious for "playing with their prey," including in the wild. They will do this for the cubs to practice.

My opinion is that we aren't as extreme as the rest of the world thinks on most things. Boring facts don't "sell" or are very newsworthy. There are extremes all over. Our type of media is drawn to sensational things. So that's what they keep pushing because it gets "eyeballs" & consequently more money. We probably are extreme about some things. Look at how many firearms there are here compared to the rest of the world. Our obesity comes to mind. I don t know. There must be more.

    • @ct6852

Definitely some that take the First Amendment to extremes. They think that means they can make up any lie they want about someone and spread it for personal/political gain. Of that they can legally threaten and harass and bully without consequences. But there IS a lot of gray area in the legality of it all. So they're correct about that.

I was waiting for the school bus back in the 90’s and it was so cold that when I breathed in, the snot in my nose froze. 😂It’s just normal. Depends on where you live, and I live in New England. Maine.
America may have a polarizing media, but doesn’t every country? Stop acting like this is just an American problem. 🙄

While America has gone bonkers lately I don’t think it’s just us. The internet has brought so many good things to the world but many, many more bad things. Add to that a generation that has way too much time on their hands, a declining moral compass, and it’s just a recipe for disaster. I can’t help but compare us to the Roman Empire. We are literally going to bring ourselves to ruin from the inside. Hopefully we can correct ourselves and put that off for a bit though 😂. There is a plan and you can read up on exactly what’s going to happen ✝️ so fear not. If you know you know!❤
