Long live Torrents and Usenet. I have 2 10Tb hard drives in my PC. All for Movies, Music,TV, Retro Games. I just need to work out how to get Jellyfin to work easily outside my home network. That is a pain in the neck to do. Learning docker etc is also awful. Nothing is explained in full.
I suggest you try docker compose as a way to manage docker containers. It allows you first write down all the things and then test whether they work or not
@@ojo2337 I spent the better part of 6 months trying to get docker to work, setup, nginx manger, casaos etc. I found that every tutorial or documentation was incomplete, assumed you had sysadmin skills or just plain missed steps out completely. People who say recommend docker to novice users should not do so unless they are willing to put in the effort to walk through the process with that person, do complete start to finish tutorials or help write clear step by step fully fleshed out documentation. Even the docker website is a nightmare to work out where you need to go and what to do.

There are so many that claim to do stuff then they are bad at it or it's not that good. I liked the old days before the tin foil hat brigade made everything secure at the cost of ease of use. Back when plex was just a new thing and before when emby had a different name. You could share your stuff easily. Now it's been made prohibitively complex
For computers with a lot of drive space you can buy the case and parts. There are also bays you can get from Icy Dock that go into the 5.25 bays. I have one that can accept 4 SSD with external access. They have some for HDDs too. I do think for mass storage just having some kind of dedicated NAS should be a decent goal. There are off the shelf things but some people also DIY something with a lot of drive space and something like TrueNAS. Then particular servers might have some storage but maybe just a few SSDs instead of a RAID of larger HDDs.
No one has ever been jailed for downloading on top of that there is no record of anyone paying any fines. Those letters are a scared tactic. Just use a VPN
I don't find the entertainment industries put out anything worthwhile to watch or listen to that would require me to pay a subscription to. Raising one standards of what they consume often translates into saving money by not paying for swill.
The more I see them put out absolutely terrible content the less I want to pay for streaming of any kind, without even mentioning the terrible practices and deals that they are also doing.
I hear you with Gnome. But, I will say, a few months ago I tried vanilla Gnome for about a week. It's not for me. But there is a weird logic to the workflow that does make sense if you don't have any existing habbits. You don't need to minimise Windows as you can always switch to any window via overview, with every window taking more or less the full screen. Again, I didn't like it at all, but I could appreciate it - whereas before I despsised it.
Try out some Window Managers then, the workflow is more customisable the applications itself are more lightweight. And you get all of the multi-desktop full real-estate benefit. Once the muscle memory kicks in, you will never go back to a full DE. For example, i3, Hyprland, Awesome, DWM etc
Trolls are losers. Always ignore them. Then they go back to their caves and cry about themselves. No data cap with my provider. On my Pixel 6 yes, but I use the wifi from my provider, so basically unlimited data.
Hey, can you do a video checking out midnight commander(mc). I have used most gui (thunar, krusader) and tui (lf, ranger) and I have found that midnight commander is better at most things.

19:05 Matt, dont fall for the fancy name and logo (Plex). Just say no to Plex...
Embrace, use, and support Jellyfin.

VPN into your local network an option?

@@carnivorebear6582 Tailscale seems like a good option

Nice job!

it seems like for the most part they're not even sent by the actual company A lot of the times there is sent like copyright trolls
If you double right click the title bar of the window it will "hide" the window then you have to use alt+tab to get back to the window
Gnome is okay and not the best, but it works consistently and that's kinda the most important thing.
Super key + H is the vanilla option on Gnome to minimize windows. I use Plasma btw.
i use XFCE btw
a bit late, sorry but yep win... fixed him :P

Most of it, even the older films, now feel to me like the propaganda from a culture I'm no longer a part of.
I use over 10 tb a month lol. Limits?
Who wants any of the new crap? The old movies are the only ones worth watching you can usually find them free to download.
I agree, modern hollywood is cringe. Old movies way better.
tell hipdad yt to mp3 will let u download songs from youtube to a mp3 online
yt-dlp is a easy way to download things from various media sites and has lots of output options.
@@MrSnivvel Agreed. it's the best for the majority of use cases
I've put quite a few mp3 files on my phone this way, great to have offline listening for walks / runs.
Is something like yt-dlp no longer preferred, or am I out of the loop?
Tell hipDad that vanilla VLC can also do that without any extensions
