87 degree water is the secret. These fish like warm. Once I kept it warm...they stayed alive for years and I barely ever lost one.

Did you try mixing them in a community fish? I love Rams. They are one of the most beautifully colored tropical fish in the hobby. But certainly one of the feistiest one! Even more aggressive than my angel fishes 🥲 I have a juvenile GBR but she will chase all my mollies and other angel fishes during feeding time and she was twice the size smaller than my mollies even my long male molly got scared of her she was so tiny compared to my mollies yet she will bite and ram my bigger fishes 😅 i dont know what to do now i have to separate her in my grow out tank due to my mollies not eating anymore and fins clamping all the time scared of her. How’s your experience with your rams

The idea of the ram tending to 2 different ladies in the same tank is hilarious.
"I'm just going out for a swim, I'm definitely not seeing another lady fish, I definitely don't have another secret family" 😂😂 that fish is too funny

Rams are great people have problems because they think clean water means spotless tank and they HATE spotless tanks. Good water but FILTHY tank mine spawn the best and colour the best and do the best in really gross tanks. In fact the best tank was covered in algea mulm and even cyanobacteria it plastered the sides the sand everything it stunk the filter wasnt working and I didnt change a thing because they looked amazing were doing amazing and spawned they split the last spawn I pulled what I thought were all the eggs only a couple of eggs went bad. I hatched them in a filthy fry tray and the next day the parents were surrounded by a swarm of babies. Oh I had fun catching all those. I had to take the parents out and break the tank down and redo it just to catch all the babies out. Now the parents have a clean tank and they hate it. Yes they like it hot. I want to find out what kind of cyanobacteria/algea mix this muck is because all my best breeding tanks have it in there I know some forms are toxic this one might be benificial. I need to know! It clearly is doing no harm.

a natural aquarium is not a 'dirty' aquarium. It is an attempt to get as close to the natural habitat as possible. In doing so, the rams feel more comfortable to spawn.

They are beautiful. But can you try keeping discus in a naturalistic setting? Because most of what you hear from discus people is antithetical to your approach, But I really would like to keep discus some day.

Not a fan of the cihlids much as they are usually too aggressive for my liking, but rams are quite sweet. Used to have a pair long ago but it was still a bit too cold for them in my tank. Now that I have returned to aquarium keepinh ofc I look at them in the store, but I dont want a heater on all the time. Lets see if I get to them on the future, would love to raise some from babies.

I have one male in a 15g and have introduced a couple females individually, he aggressively tries to breed with them and kills them. How do I get over that? Or is it a lost cause with him?

    • @FatherFish
