    The main reason why I think Burrow should be in contention for MVP is because there's no point in making it a "regular season award" if you're limiting your selection to playoff contenders only. Either it's actually a regular season award and great players from middling teams should be included, or it's a post-season award and voting should take into consideration post-season performance.

      In the regular season he went ~.500... I don't understand your argument. Mahomes took a #31 ranked defense to the AFC Championship game and lost to Brady's patriots in overtime... and Burrow can't even make the playoffs? What good are stats if you can't even get your team into the playoffs?

      i dont really believe in it but if its a regular season award playoff contention is totally relevant. all playoff contention reflects is a high degree of success in the regular season, nothing more.

      Yes, Notre Dame beat Georgia by more points than Indiana, but Indiana also made that game look way closer than it really was. Indiana put up 14 points in garbage time. That game was a 10 point game disguised as a 24 point game. Meanwhile, Notre Dame had a huge 14 point swing against Georgia that ended up being the difference. The two teams played three different teams .Minnesota played the Giants, Jets, and Atlanta .
    Detroit played Dallas, Buffalo, and Tampa Bay. Lions are at +200 point differential. The Vikings are at +122. Vikings are much more healthier. Lions are getting a few guys back. I wonder why there is never a mention how Flores let Johnson go when he took over at Miami ? Someone mentioned this in a show I listened to. Seems like Ben really brings his A game for the Vikings. Good luck and one team will get the 1 seed and the other the 5 seed, and we may see this game again in Minnesota or Detroit again real soon. Both offenses are just amazing.

Two of the top four seeds (top four seeds are only conference champs) are ranked 9 and 12 while Texas and Penn State (not top 4 seeds) are ranked 3 and 4. • @robe2504
    @robe2504 3 дні тому +13

    Hey EJ, I think you have that 100% backwards - the Lions offence is going to have to keep up with the Vikes offence.
    The Vikes offence is performing just as efficiently as the Lions offence. However the Vikes are going against a Lions D that has barely outperformed a set of cardboard cut-outs this past month. The Lions coach is literally too scared to punt because he knows his defence can't stop anyone. Campbell has largely got away with playing 4th down roulette, but one stop and a short field could put the Lions 2 or 3 scores back very quickly - and then what? Rely on your D to get back into the game?
    Jefferson has averaged 182 yards over his three previous visits to Ford Field.
    The Lions will be facing one of the best rush defences in yards and TDs, the leading D in turnovers, having forced at least one in every game this season, and is 5th in sacks. The Lions are also down Montgomery, and the offence could be under pressure to be perfect to keep pace with the Vikes and against a better defence than the Bills. Blake Cashman, the QB of the Vikes D, missed the week 7, as did Hockenson, and Addison had missed 6 or 7 weeks of practice leading up to that game. The Lions will also miss Alim McNeill and Carlton Davis from that match up.
    If the Vikes get up early in this game, and Campbell keeps pressing his 4th down luck - the Vikes could easily take the crowd out of this game.

    My main gripe with the CFB rankings in general is that because teams all have vastly different schedules, there will always be some team(s) upset that they're not in the playoff. It's confusing, especially with all the different ranking systems and what people value more: quality wins, not having losses, a combination of both, etc.
    The most important thing for me is for the committee to show consistency with how they judge and pick teams for the playoff.

    Not saying he shouldn't be in the conversation. But Burrow isn't really touching Lamar is any traditional passing efficiency category, not to mention the rushing. Even in more "advanced" metrics like EPA Lamar is well ahead of Burrow. And frankly, it annoys the shit out of me that zero people want to ding Burrow's production because of Chase but a ton of people will work to ding Lamar or a Tua/Goff/Purdy for their supposed superior advantages. All the while Chase has way more YAC over expected than even 2nd place on that list. The inconsistency in narratives is absurd.

    • @themangomag97
      @themangomag97 2 дні тому

      I see your point, but at the same time Chase is 1 dude. 2 if you include Higgins.
      Goff has Amon Ra, Laporta as well as Williams and then of course Sonic and Knuckles and a great o line.
      Lamar has Flowers, Andrews, Bateman and King Henry and probably a better O-line than burrow.
      Burrow is doing it all with less overall and a worse defense. I would say Burrow is more "valuable" to his team than Lamar or Goff are because of the talent around them.
      However, I would still give MVP to Lamar considering how the award has traditionally been given out. He's been electric this season.

    Also, Joe Burrow should absolutely be the Most Valuable Player. Would the Ravens be a good team with an average QB? Ya, nowhere near where they are with Lamar, but good. Josh is the straw that stirs the drink in Buffalo, but they are still a good team. Saquon in Philly will have eye popping numbers and should get MVP votes. Nobody and I mean nobody carries a team like the Bengals offense does and nobody carries their offense quite like Burrow does. Bad team that misses the playoff? Doesn't matter, give it to Burrow. Forever northern teams built for the inevitable elements had to play fast track teams down south in bowl games who never had to worry about the elements. Its 2 different ways of constructing a team & it's always been a massive advantage for the SEC, Big 12 type of teams. Say Wisconsin gets back to top 10 form & gets a home playoff game. Good luck to a stacked Alabama, Clemson, Florida team winning at Wisconsin in December/January. They're not going to want to get off the bus. Tennessee wanted nothing to do with Ohio weather & it's not even that cold out there. Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan winters are a different animal.

    And this off season nothing changes. No QB talent is added in the draft because there isn't much there. And now with legit big money in college some of these top end QB's might lean towards 3 and 4 years in college. Why not? Relatively the same money and you get to be the big fish in a small pond for a little while longer. Be Peter Pan and make grown man money. The NFL won't get to poach the top end of the talent pool the first opportunity they get.

    Lamar is the MVP. People need to stop with the stupid narratives and just give it to him already.
    Some food for thought:
    MVP QBs average 0.27 EPA/play since 2000.
    Lamar Jackson is 11-0 when playing at or above 0.27 EPA/Play and 0-5 when playing below that standard. Yes, he has only 5 games below that mark, which is an incredible feat by itself.
    Josh Allen is 7-1 at or above, 6-2 below.
    Joe Burrow is 2-2 at or above, 6-6 below.
    For all the people saying Josh Allen is solo carrying the Bills and whatnot.
    I get it, people are salty he won MVP in a weak year based on a couple of very good performances. Remember that the other candidates also all shit the bed in one way or another late in the season, not his fault he won out in the end. It's also not a reason to bend over backwards and discredit one of the best QB seasons EVER. People will remember this season the same way Aaron Rodgers' 2011 or 2020 are remembered.

      @ The parity always existed, I despise this nonsense.
      Everything was the same for everyone, it's just smaller programs couldn't compete with the elite ones, and people got mad. Not every program invested the same way into the sport, so they got the appropriate results, and people got mad. The idea that Boise State should be artificially lifted to compete with Georgia is absurd. They're not at the same levels and never will be, and that's fine. Just like when people had bleeding hearts for inferior programs, and shoving them in the Playoffs, only to get slaughtered.
      The narratives around "parity" only started with the Playoffs garbage, which was just an attempt to stifle the upper echelons of programs (and make money). I'm all for the kids making money, and being able to transfer if they think it's actually good for them, but it's been a disaster, at the direct expense of the sport. They need to force kids who transfer to sit a year (barring some situations), have contracts with NIL money for Bowls, etc. to avoid the issues that've been created.
      Parity existed, it's just reality dictates that not everything will be the same. The people who cry about "parity," solely desire mediocrity.
