Best town to live in....anywhere! I love this place, its like someone cut a slice of the 80's off and hid it up here in the woods. Great people, great weather and a pace that lets you breath.
@@JJacks920 They might be saying that to deter people from going to CDA. I'm applying to a job there and have been looking at different videos about the area. Under most videos I've watched about this city people leave comments saying they don't want people to move there...especially that they don't want liberals there.
Im in the airforce serving in Delaware and i havent gotten home in about 2 years and this video brought tears to my eyes having grown up in cda. Amazing video of an amazing place
i grew up in north Idaho. coolin for 12 years and CDA for 3. currently in the process of moving my family back to CDA. if everything goes right we'll be there spring 2021. can't wait for my kids to experience the beauty of ID and all it has to offer.
4wd would be a must living there! I grew up in the north east and now live in the south east... the one thing I miss the most is SNOW and winters like this. Look at how beautiful the snow is all over the trees. Thanks for sharing.
I've lived in the silver valley my whole life and I've never had 4wd. I've only ever had snow tires 3 seasons. If you don't drive like an idiot you can get by.
The views are spectacular of the lake along this drive to the left, which the dash cam didn't capture. One of my favorite drives in Coeur d'Alene. Thanks for another great video, Kory. God bless you and your family.
You are right that it's really not that much snow here. I grew up in Buffalo. I lived in New York Shitty for the last 18 years. I moved here last August. I don't think people believed me in August and September that I would still walk and ride my bike around in the winter. Lo and behold, I have. I grew up in Buffalo. This winter has been nothing to me. Even New York City got blizzards worse than this winter, too.
I sent this to my daughter for her Birthday. They are moving from Hawaii to CDL in November. Great video and the only one I could find that showed the snow in "real time". Thanks!
I've lived in Coeur d'Alene my whole life! In 1985-1986 it snowed almost 3 feet over night! Guess what, I still had to drive to school! But, I got to the end of Master's and my car died. Engine compartment was pack with snow. Dug it all out, got her running again. And away I went! In a dress and heels no less!
Lived there for 18 years. Then came the 2008 crash and lost our house and moved away....What I remember like anywhere else..good winters bad winters...but in general the climate is a bit warmer than say the other side of the divide into Montana...Or Stanley Idaho. Theres a bit of a Pacific Coast effect and keeps Coeur d'Alene a bit milder temperature in winter. Not the 20 belows of Montana. Less winter sun however and being milder can get heavy snows...But I remember tilling a garden in late February one year.
That's the reason why I like Idaho. Remember if you live in a warm climate you will hate it here. However if you like wildlife you would be hard pressed to find a better place to live . There is more wildlife than people .
What a beautiful video. Thank you. Reminds me of our mountains here in CO. Although we get much more sunlight in winter here than CDA. We're thinking about retiring there but the 5 months of winter gray has us a little hesitant. Do you get any sunny days in the winter?
From Upstate NY. (Originally we are from Florida and NH respectively) Raised our older half of kids mostly in NH and younger half in a small town on our homestead in upstate NY. NY is pretty crazy but been fine so far. Away from the city. But, things are too crazy now. Looking to get out to the American Redoubt. Thank you for this. Looks like our Winters. In another video we were struck by how CLEAN CDA is!
My family just moved their a few years ago, they moved from Hawaii , I as really surprised they wanted to move to cold, snow, but still a beautiful place Idaho is.

What vehicle do you drive and what tires do you have on it? Going up to Northern Idaho for couple months for work, have F150 4x4. needs new tires, wondering what I should get. Thanks
The snow is a lot wetter and heavier most of the time. I lived around Novi for a little while on one of the lakes. Best comparison would be lake effect snow coming off one of the Great Lakes. I always pray for dry snow 😉
N Idaho can be pretty grey and dreary. The weather is 10 degrees colder in the winter and 10 degrees hotter in the summer than Seattle. We have similar numbers of cloudy/sunny days. If you grew up in it (as I did), you are used to it. But if you grew up in S Idaho or anywhere sunny, it might seem really grey.
@@LiveBetterinNorthIdaho I have been watching the rails-to-trails from Seattle to Washington DC progression. I think it will take another 10 years to complete the last 1800 miles. That is one of the reasons i'm interested in CDA. :)
Moving my son from Vegas to CdL. I think that I should get him some all season tires perhaps? The drive from Vegas to CdL is what has me most stressed out! I’ll be in a UHaul he will be in his car
Studded snow tires for the winter. And 2 sets of chains. During the winter always keep lots of extra clothes and sleeping bags in your vehicles, along with a good shovel and about 5 to 6 bags of road sand and road flares kept in the trunk. Have fun. I lived there for twenty years. Wish I had never left.
Great question. Avg day highs are 35 and lows are 25. Here is more info: www.livebetterinnorthidaho.com/blog/the-truth-about-coeur-dalene-idahos-weather/
CDA does get a massive amount of snow, and contrary to what this realtor says, this area does get plenty of 12 - 24" dumpings of snow in a one or two day period. I was there in late January two years ago and they got 14" of snow overnight. I was stuck there and missed my flight from Spokane. Bend OR gets a lot of snow, and they average less than half of what CDA gets! This is not an area for retirees unless you can fly to Hawaii or Arizona for 3 months every year.
Freedom loving Veteran here. I heard my company may open a place in CDA. Seeing as I'm Northern Wisconsin born and raised, the snow isn't an issue. What attracts me more than the scenery is the Non-Liberal culture.😎👍
I have a huge question and I was wondering if you can answer it for me because I cant find any other resources on my question. What are the animal regulations for Coeur d'Alene. Can I have a few dairy goats in my back yard in the city limits? Are there any animal restrictions?
6.15.010: DOMESTIC LIVESTOCK AND FOWL PROHIBITED: A. It shall be unlawful for any person to own, keep, or maintain any domestic livestock or fowl within the limits of Coeur d'Alene, except: 1. Any person may possess chickens, excluding roosters, if the chickens are kept in a secure yard, building or other enclosure at all times; 2. Any person living on property zoned R-1 may possess up to two (2) domestic livestock; or 3. Any offspring of permitted domestic livestock may be kept until weaned.
This may sound silly, but I’m going to ask anyway. Where I live, we do not have weather conditions like this. If I were to move here, would I need to purchase a truck in order to navigate the roads during winter time? Also, do all the cars wear chains during storms like this?
Aubrei if you drive out of the incorporated areas on rural roads you would need 4wd or chains 2-3 months out of the year but if you live in town the streets are kept plowed as are many of the near by roads. Front wheel drive vehicle do well in snow due to engine weight over the front drive wheels helping with traction. A sport utility vehicle with 4wd like a Toyota 4Runner for example makes a great vehicle for this area.
Yes! North Idaho is generally Zone 5, but we do have pockets of Zone 6, especially around the Lakes. Our growing season is Mothers Day through Labor Day with a week or two on either end if you dare.
