I'm not one to usually comment on youtube videos or any social media for that matter but my god, this album is my favourite of yours yet. I very much wish apple music had a counter for the amount of times I've listened to it (most likely in the thousands, I do wish I was joking) and specifically this song. You've brought back that quintessential monotonous, eerie yet beautifully calming and almost hopeful tone that I resonate with so deeply and missed so much in the majority of your recent album, though I'm sure this is because you've grown as a person and no longer relate to your past emotional status. After two months I've apparently finally decided to comment in gratitude for your work that brings so many of my deepest emotions to the surface, many that no other artist can penetrate. You continue to be my favourite and I thank you for bringing me such joy and comprehension of emotions that I don't believe others feel in a similar way through your music. That is all.
I love this as much as the original, which is a LOT. I just read the interview where you said you'd discovered it was a lesbian love song and now I'm listening with a whole new appreciation! Also digging back into old Shins back-catalogue because of this - so THANKS! In love with your music.
"Words are only letters congregating. They're never alone. Bound by an alphabet, these humble builders are wiser than numbers. They admit to their mortality. Without them, math wouldn't even have a name. So you have two of something, but what do you have two of?" ,dan'
"Through is the path of the journey or the end of it. Foreordination allows through to be decided at any point and predestination allows through to be decided at any cost. I'm through now but I'm not done." ,dan'
It's so nice to hear this song that resonates with me on different levels as a trans woman (yes I know it's not about a trans girl, but the lyrics still reflect my experience) and a lesbian sung by someone else who identifies with the story being told
"Nothing is easier said than done however nothing being said is silence which I do believe is an action so nothing is easier done than said but how does one do nothing at all? I guess nothing is easy or nothing is impossible. You can never do it, say it, be it, or have it and why on earth would you want to?" ,dan'
The song doesn't match the lyrics. So I watched this video muted. I was curious about what I am seeing and not hearing. A different kind of experience.
Marika has the BEST taste in covers.
Of all the Marika covers I could've expected, I never thought The Shins could have been a likely candidate.
