Thobbe Englund, is rejoining the band and taking Tommy’s place!
Thobbe originally joined us in April 2012 and decided to leave Sabaton in July 2016 to focus on his personal life and expand his creativity. We, of course, respected his decision and we parted ways amicably. Since then, we have been in constant contact with him over the years - he’s a really good friend to all of us. Eight years later, he’s back and ready to hit the global stage with us once more and we couldn’t be happier about it.

While I also love rome (which civilized human doesn't) my greek roots have taught me a wise saying: "While Rome conquered Greece, Greek culture conquered Rome"
Which while true is by no means an insult to Rome, as taking ideas from foreign peoples was their most valuable asset arguably.
Anywho great reaction as always! If you are interested in a metal song about the Roman Empire, the band Civil War has made a song called "Rome is falling"

Excellent suggestion. Rome is Falling is an amazing story of the Battle of the Milvian Bridge from the perspective of Constantine.

The envoys were not sent to athens and sparta due to the fact that both of these states executed persian envoys during first persian invasion. 4:07 City of byzantion is already there 11:44 It is more likely that they withdrew as their city - Phocis was now directly exposed to Persian force.
Spartans were not considered best soldiers in Hellas until Herodotus wrote his account, before Argives were considered best soldiers. Most common estimate of greek army is around 7000 , and 1000-1400 during last day., consisting of Spartans, Thespians and (maybe) Thebans. Historians generally believe that Leonidas did not want to fight, and wanted to withdraw to Pelopones immediately, but protests from city states that would be left undefended in the end made him march to Thermopilae and fight.

The Movie 300 was awesome. But it was based off of the graphic novel.

i like this bit of history, a classic, but its a little exaggerated.
i prefer the battle of thermopylae in 1941, ANZAC's supported by British artillery vs the German army supported by tanks, doing rear guard action to help other allied troops and politicians escape greece.
but i do also have a soft spot for the greeks, in WW2 they joined us in africa, in WW1 they joined us against the central powers despite being the only balkan country in that area to do so, and during the napoleonic wars thousands joined the british army in support.
also, the greeks have the second oldest modern special forces in the world, since they formed in 1942 as an SAS rival.

One problem with your Roman egotism; by the time Rome was a major power Sparta had been conquered and subjugated by the Macedonians under Alexander the Great, who actually had an empire larger than Rome.

Nothing to say about Alexander military genius and what he achieved in such a short time, but you can't compare his empire to Rome. He took his army and kept pushing East victory after victory, he didn't care about holding the territories he conquered. His empire lasted a decade because he was the only factor keeping it together and had no real control over it.

@@taipingwashighaf6514 That does not change the fact his empire was larger than Romes. Rome had advantages in location (easier logistics) and administration which makes Alexanders accomplishments even more impressive.

Rome always wins, except when it collapses 1000 years before the Byzantines.
