Hi John, glad you like it. I've always enjoyed Talisker like you but I'm boycotting it these days. I'm just fed up with the E150 and daft pricing. I'm also boycotting this range because it's just gone downhill in quality along with the prices going up.
@@welshtoro3256 I’m voting with my wallet more and more… agree with you in principle but my fanboy costume comes out with any new Talisker and for me this one is worth it… I also grabbed the Lag 12 at a discount but passed on last years which are still on shelves… Cheers 🥃
Nice one, John. I'm sure you're right that most Talisker is matured deep in the mainland - not so very coastal. Diageo has around 8.5 million casks maturing with around 3 million of them located at Blackgrange, Clackmannanshire (just to the east of Stirling). I also agree that Talisker is a worthy dram, despite the chill-filtration and colouring. The distillate character is irrepressible.
@@hordeum-vulgare thanks for the Maturation information… Agree Talisker makes fantastic distillate despite its manipulation. This offering could for me be closer to. 10/10… Sublime. Cheers 🥃
I hate to be a Diageo hater because there are probably hundreds of unethical companies I support outside of the whisky industry, but I'm really getting to the point where I don't want any more Diageo whisky. I went to the Johnie Walker experience in Edinburgh in 2023, and I hate to admit, I had a great time, but as I get deeper into my whisky journey, I can really see how much damage they have done to the integrity of malts (sounding like Ralfy). I have a few Diageo bottles in my collection (some Obans and a Talisker Parley), but I think I will intentionally spend my money elsewhere from now on. And the same goes for any distillery chill-filtering and coloring. Seriously, we enthusiasts should rebel en masse. Not that it will make a difference to their pockets, but at least I can go to sleep knowing that I spent my money with people who care about their products, not just profits. However, John, I'm not judging you -- keep enjoying Talisker. I still enjoy a Black Label here and there when I have to -- and I have bottles of Oban and Talisker to go through. ;-)
@@KakoGuzmanMusic I get it but with Diageo owning 29 distilleries it’s hard to hate that many. But like yourself I do my best to try and seek out integrity and value but even that has its challenges in our current economic climate. Cheers 🥃
Nice review, I have also been a fan of Talisker for some 30 years, but recent years have seen a dip in quality imo - with a few exceptions. So when I attended a tasting of the full 2024 Diageo SR releases last friday, I did not expect much from the Talisker. However it turned out to be the biggest positive surprise of the tasting, so it was an easy pick for me, and I bought a bottle on the spot 😊 Cheers
...the Benrinnes 21 was impressive, but so was the price (in DK equal to 585 USD). Also the Mortlach NAS was really good but a pass at the equivalent to 365 USD for a bottle.
...the fun is in the sharing, and I think you are right about a fair share of whisky fans being exicted by the SR series. The Talisker being the one with a sensible quality/price ratio 😉
Ohh you've only gone and done it! 😁 I'm growing even more tired of these Special Releases every year. With their gimmicks, gimmicky labels and bottom shelf presentations (I agree with you that it looks coloured and chill filtered beyond a doubt. Identical to a £20 Johnnie Walker!). But I don't blame you for being drawn to this. Talisker is a great distillery and it's one of the more affordable Special Releases after all. Very nice to get your thoughts on it and I'm glad it's a good one. I would've been tempted by the Caol Ila if it were a straight Cask Strength and Craft Presented version of the 12yo. Alas, they had to screw around with it as always. I may give it a go if I find it on discount. I may even try this one on your recommendation. But no hurry right now. Cheers John 🥃
