Hey bro greetings from Wales 🏴 UK 🇬🇧 I, like Tom are born ‘n’ bred in Wales, one of the four countries that make up the United Kingdom and the smallest (population a mere 3 million), so I’m thrilled to see this reaction. At this time Tom was only about 18 months into his career and I guess if you say Tom Jones to a lot of Americans they might say “who?” But, say “Carlton’s Dance” they’d have a much better idea, this is because Carlton (Fresh Prince Of Bel Air) dances to Tom’s first hit record, It’s Not Unusual!! So this is 1967, Tom is now 82 and is touring the UK this summer (2023)!! And bro I do t know if you’ve reacted to Shirley Bassey on this channel but Shirley is another of Wales’ superstar exports having started her career around about the same time as Tom, us Welsh are proud of them both!! 🏴🇺🇸🇬🇧
Tom Jones is the GOAT. The song was written by Lonnie Donegan, now passed, and Tom did a duet of the song with Lonnie's son on The Voice that is incredibly touching. Highly recommend giving it a watch!
Tom Jones is a Welsh singer who has one of the smoothest powerful voices around. And he was a showman too, in fact he was a big heart-throb with the ladies. He has so many hits such as "It's Not Unusual", "What's New Pussycat?", "Green, Green Grass of Home", "Delilah", "She's a Lady". He covers a lot of genres. He is still performing & is a coach on "The Voice" UK version. He also had a variety show from 69 - 71 & had some of the biggest music stars at the time.
@@dagmar.6954 By one dimensional we mean his voice is powerful with not much change. If you want a chameleon voice that changed multiple times? I grew up listening to Sir Tom because my dad is a huge fan...I have always loved his voice. Even now in his 80s his voice has not changed. One of the greatest in the world for sure!!
from the era when singers could really really sing. no auto tuner needed. and they sounded the same live in person as they did on the radio, TV or a recording
Ok, been low-key waiting for you to do this one. Tom has a voice straight from heaven and has been dubbed one of the best singers in the world, by Elvis, John Farnham and many more. And he still sings, in his 80s. This song....boy....
Thankfully I have never heard anyone else attempt to sing this song (apart from the writers son on The Voice when he sang it with Tom), because why would you? There is no way anyone could Ever do as much justice to this song as Tom does. The depth of his voice, the timbre and the emotion he conveys cannot be copied or topped. Tom is the G.O.A.T and at 80 years old his voice is still wonderful.
I heard a guy try it on The Voice where Sir Tom was a judge. The guy was pretty bad (in a bad way, not "BAD" as in "good"). Tom didn't turn and during the commentary after nobody turned, Tom said "This isn't a song from an opera." He really didn't like the guy doing that to his song. If you find it to watch, have something close by to barf into. 😂😂
The background to this song is that it was written by British singer/songwriter Lonnie Donegan and Jimmy Currie. Donegan recorded and released it in ‘62 where it didn’t garner any success and TJ has stated since that Lonnie approached him a few years later asking him to take a listen, Lonnnie felt that what his song was missing was somebody who could really SING it. And the rest as it were is history, Tom reached 2nd spot in the UK charts in 1967 but it didn’t fare as well stateside reaching just 49 on the BB100 🤔
My mother was a huge Tom fan, so I grew up with his voice. Tom is the GOAT and I'll fight anyone who says otherwise. He was John Farnhams idol and there are a few videos on youtube of them performing together. They also did a 10 show tour of Australia in about 2005ish I think, which I was fortunate enough to see, and released an album of said tour also, which I own and play often.
I'm with you at 5:46 on the second time he does the run on "Again" where does it differently the first time. I tried to replicate it immediately just like you, and it's kinda tricky.
This channel is such a gift that you are giving to the world. Not only is it awesome to see you rediscover and react to the music that burned into my soul when I was young and wild, you are helping me rediscover the music my parents listened to when they were young and wild! (I was born in 1967) Bless you ThatSingerReactions!
Tom is known as "The Welsh Wailer". He comes from Wales/Cymru, known as "The Land Of Song," with the cultural emphasis on singing, music, poetry, performance etc. These are encouraged through the eisteddfords, the competitive festivals of music and poetry. Even the Welsh language is "sing-songy".The Welsh are especially known for their choirs.
I bought my parents Tom John's tickets the year my Step father was diagnosed with terminal cancer. I had grown up with watching them love each other so strong for so long, dancing to his music every night and falling in love each time they did.. I thought it gross at the time LOL. Until that day we found out. When I heard Tom was going to tour I immediately bought tickets and wrote to Mr Jones and his management. I got a reply about a month later, I don't know if it was from Tom himself but it was addressed from him to me. I still have the letter. He said, and it's true, that my step-father, Vic, looked like his twin and he'd love to meet him personally. So the concert came around and my parents were met at the venue door and taken backstage. They actually spent hours with Tom Jones backstage, he sang this song, acapella, whilst they danced and he paid for a beautiful suite at the Sydney Hilton for them for the weekend. Mr Tom Jones is nothing but a class act! A true gentleman with a massive heart! That was on Sun 3rd Dec, 1995. Sydney Entertainment Centre. He passed a year later, my mother, 6 years ago. He not only gave them such a wonderful time but me such sweet memories
Tom could emote like no-one's business !... Don't worry..he gets his revenge in.. 💥...Delilah..🔥 I hope you react to it and.. 💥...I Who Have Nothing Another powerhouse 🔥... Tom had a long and strong marriage to the same high school sweetheart...these songs were written by others but he knew how to add all the feels they needed... Thanks for the tribute to a Welsh boy who escaped the coal mines to become a legend..🙏💚... 🌿🌿🌿
Such a great, authentic reaction! I think the song that showcases his voice the most is “I Who Have Nothing”. I would love to see your reaction to that one - it is truly jaw dropping. Love your channel!
I was lucky enough to see Tom Jones and John Farnham together in concert, they were fantastic. They both respect each other’s talent.. love watching your reactions..
I too saw Tom and John at the Domain in Sydney! It rained, we had ponchos, but they continued to sing and it was a fantastic concert. They clearly enjoyed performing together. I also saw Tom Jones at the old Sydney Entertainment Centre with my four sisters on my 40th birthday.
I really enjoyed your response to Tom...he took you by surprise..as he does with everyone.( pure soul)....over the many years he's been singing....his voice is still powerful...
I grew up listening to and watching him on tv because my mom LOVED this man. In 1985 or 86, I was able to take my mom to see him for Mother's Day, got 3rd row seats. And little me tell you them ladies was still tossing the undies on the stage at him! Ladies in their 40's. 50's and 60's lol! My favorite song is "I who have nothing".
Hello from England Tom had and still has IT ALL and you know what I mean 😃😃😃😄😄😄👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻❤️❤️🎙🎙🎤🎤 I recommend you react to Tom Jones LOVE MACHINE from the TV Show called The Midnight Special from 1976 All I can say is WOW, WOW That blouson shirt, those high heeled shoes and those Bell Bottom Trousers How did he manage to get them OFF let alone put them on. His backing group were The Blossoms who were part of the Elvis 68 Comeback special Another connection between Tom and Elvis ❤️❤️👌🏻👌🏻😢😢😢🙏🙏🙏🙏💓💓💓
As an 81 year old Mom and Mama D and Mama DD I think you are the BEST ...your expressions..your real feel heart ...to the great songs you react to,,,I used to see him on black and white tv. Thank you for being you. 😘
I could watch Sir Tom sing this song a million times and still want to hear it a million more. Unreal. He is a national treasure and this was a great reaction! Thanks!
I agree. But, I think it’s because the studio orchestra were amazing but I can’t find out which orchestra they used for that live recording. It might have been a BBC orchestra?
My favorite Tom Jones song . What a talent and this is pure no auto tune no smoke and mirrors just talent!!!!nobody hurt Tom he was as married to his childhood sweetheart to till her death a few years ago I think they were 15 and 17 when they married . Unfortunately he had many affairs . That being said he is so talented at making you believe he was hurt we don’t have this kind of talent anymore !
I don’t mind you pausing, that’s why I’m watching you , love your opinions & expressions. THATS ALL 🥰 I grew up watching him, my Mum absolutely loved him. 🙏🙏❤️
When he sings, he is experiencing the song. Definitely one of the best male voices in the world. Tom could sing the phone book and make it sound great,
Love the man ... saw him in concert 14 times back in the day ... what an entertainer !! He had such passion and soul in his voice ... a true "belter" and oh, by the way, he looked mighty fine while he was doing it ! And he could move !!!!!!!
Sir Tom was married for , I think, 59 years to his childhood sweetheart. Sadly, she passed a couple years ago. Probably the only heartbreak he ever suffered. I love this man!
A great song for you to react to is...Tom Jones singing Mama told me not to come. This is a cover from a song orginally sung by Three Dog Night. Tom was probably in his 70s at that time. It is great

This is a live performance. No do overs, no auto-tuning, nothing fake. Just talent and professionalism.
This is flat out one of the best vocal performances I've ever heard!

Voice Britain.
The man, the legend. What I wouldn't have given to be able to sing like him. He is my favorite male vocalist.

Dagmar, youre right its The Voice not BGT...great comment, Im old enough to remember those days!
@Donatella Loncar Yes, Engelbert is a great singer with many hits.
@@dagmar.6954
I agree with you on "powerful" voice.
But smooth?
Where do you get smooth from?
His voice is more raw and scratchy than smooth.
@@dagmar.6954
Tom's voice is powerful but "one dimensional"
He has great power.
@@dagmar.6954
By one dimensional we mean his voice is powerful with not much change.

Then the raw soul of the legendary "if I can dream" and the 69 Memphis sessions.
In 1971, "until it's time for you to go"
Just a true chameleon voice.
The incomparable Tom Jones, love his wonderful voice!
Love your appreciation of Tom's incredible voice. He deserves so much more respect than he's gotten over the years.
You hit the nail on the head when you said he sings with such “passion.” Great reaction as always!
Yes, one of the best vocals of all time. Great song sung with passion and conviction, that’s Tom.
Can’t believe how great this guy still sounds today… 🤯👌
I know when he sung man's world with Jennifer I was like holy shit lol
I grew up listening to Sir Tom because my dad is a huge fan...I have always loved his voice. Even now in his 80s his voice has not changed. One of the greatest in the world for sure!!
When people ask me who's the greatest male singer I've ever heard, there's no hesitation, Tom Jones is that man.
I have seen Elvis and Tom, Elvis said Tom had the best voice he ever heard
Elvis attended all of Tom's concerts when they were both playing in Las Vegas. Elvis thought he world of Tom and include him in his world.
This is nothing but pure talent. I remember Tom Jones back in the day.....PURE TALENT.
He's 80 now and his voice still fabulous fabulous

Tom jones and John farnham has done a lot shows together. Amazing match upp. Two of the best singers in the world.
I got to see him a few years ago in concert. FABULOUS! Man can still sing!!!
I guess you have to grow up in a Welsh mining town in order to sing like this guy. Amazing, amazing voice. Top drawer presentation.
When Tom Jones sings everyone in the audience is instantly pregnant, including the orchestra, camera men and sound crew. 🤣
Hahahaha, that made me laugh!
How is that possible?
