Getting your custom domain is essential when using the Shopify platform for your store. Not only is it essential for branding and trust, it also helps you create a real asset. So where should you get your custom domain name from?
Should you get your domain name by using Shopify domain names or a domain name registrar like Godaddy, Namecheap or Google Domains? I suggest using a domain name registrar personally. They provide the best prices typically and you get various features not included with Shopify Domains for free.
Also, I like keeping my services separate. I don't want one company to have my domain name, hosting, store, content etc.

I registered a domain name with GiDaddy and now the domain name is locked for 60 days and cannot be transferred to Shopify. Is there anyway around this?
Did you find a solution to this?? I'm wondering if things have changed in 2021 and a 'fast transfer' is no longer possible

I set up 2 domains via namecheap. I could not message or do adds in facebook. Facebook said they were spam?
Namecheap is a domain registrar like GoDaddy and has no influence over that. But I’m curious to know more, send me an email.

No one can take your domain once you register it. I personally use a domain registrar like Namecheap.

so i transferred my domain from godaddy to shopify and then bought the domain on shopify if im correct. it doesnt expire till 2024. I am paranoid about shopify taking down my shop for no reason and holding my domain hostage. Any advice? do I somehow transfer it off shopify then have it point back at shopify? will my site go down in the meantime?
They won't hold your domain hostage. You're incorrect that you buy the domain, you have to renew your registration because with all domain names you're simply leasing the use of it, not owning it outright.
I personally recommend Namecheap or Dynadot for domains. I use Namecheap for all my domains personally.
