Ricardo Cano - Yes Sir! Glad it helped you out. Appreciate you letting me know and thanks for the compliments. I still have my 80S LC and this upgrade is still performing perfectly. I also make the rings for 8-10 folks a year.
Some observations from my experience with this:1) You can run that microphone all the way up to the center headliner console (whatever it's called) instead of the A pillar. I think that's a better spot for it. Unscrew the console and the visor retaining clip and you can poke the jack end of the wire through over the headliner to the windshield. 2) If you remove the ashtray frame and the antenna switch, that gives you a whole lot more room to work the radio in and out.3) The display on the Pioneer is removable, so remove it for installation. That way you don't risk scratching or damaging it.Clay, if you're ever in Austin, I owe you a beer or two for all the help you've been with these videos.LC
Great input and helpful tips for those doing this upgrade Lorenzo. Thanks for taking time out to comment and help folks. I may move my mic as the wind from an open window (even just cracked open a little) comes through loud and clear on the conversation with others. (so my wife says!). I may be in the Austin area later this summer for College tour with my daughter; I'll hit you up and maybe we can connect and have a cold beverage. ;) Take care my friend, Clay
Hello Clay I just bought a 1996 landcruiser and am going to replace everything as well. One question is there any way to get you to make those spacers lol I don't have all those nice tools. Let me know how much you'd charge. also what part of Texas are you from I live in Corpus maybe you're close?
I have a 1996 Land Cruiser that looks almost identical but mine does not have top drawer that you pulled out to reach the first screws. Is there another way to get to those?
I have a multi cd player under the center console ,can you hook the CD player to the radio ,if go does it show what cd and track your on on the new radio .
steve dental - That's a good question. I know there is an aux in that is two RCA connectors but not sure how the head unit would know the meta data for each track etc. Probably have to hit up Pioneer or a forum that does tons of car stereo stuff and ask around. Was this a factory or aftermarket CD unit?
I don't know what I have yet I'm still trying to find out my speaker sizes and what all I need . I'll keep asking on some forums like Ih8mud they are really helpful on that forum.
Clay, good morning! i was wondering where you ended up splicing in the E-brake wire? i didnt see what you did other than pull the cable to under the dash. :) i cant find the E brake cable on the harness under the dash, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!
No need to "actually connect your unit to the e-brake". Just take the stereo's e-brake line to a good ground via a toggle switch ( or any switch of your choice). When the unit pops up saying it won't work until you engage the e-brake, simply flip the switch!
I wouldn't - if you have this nice LC, you want to do this work right. At least that's how I feel. See if you can find someone to borrow the iron from. Or, save a little more cash and buy one. On line they can be had for < $20. You'll use it once you have it. That's my advice. Thanks, that's a good question.
Joxe, I have made the spacer rings for a few years now yes. But my supplier has stopped making the 3/8" material so I need to find another supplier or I will have to plane more down like I did for the original set (in the video). I shipped the last set I had in stock last week in fact. Hit me up via FaceBook messenger and I'll see what I can do. facebook.com/Texasknowhow
Hi Clay, I hooked everything up and the radio turned on for about 1 second and I heard the antenna motor cycle then everything stopped and the radio went black. I checked the radio, cigarette, clock fuse and it's fine. The clock and cig still work. I tried plugging back in my stock radio and it doesn't work either now. Did you have to do anything with you factory amplifier? Does the antenna or amp have another fuse located somewhere? Can you think of what may be going on? Thanks for your help.
Mason B Sorry this happened Mason... not sure what may have went wrong. I would definitely double check all the connections and it does sound like there is another fuse somewhere that is blown or tripped. Did you check under the dash and also under the hood there are more fuses?
Hi Clay. I got it! It was the dome light fuse under the hood. To be safe I rewired everything and picked up a volt meter to double check before I hooked back up. It's all working great now! Thanks again.
M Car-man - The stereo I was installing had to see a transition from not grounded to grounded. So a full time ground of the wire would not work. I had to run the ground through a switch and wait for it to ask me, then flip the switch. Make sense?
@@Texasknowhow Yes and thank you. We installed a Sony and can not see an obvious difference with or without the ground attached. Will have to play with it more.
I still like it. the only thing I've noticed is it won't keep the lighting settings (Theme) when you disconnect the battery. Seems this would be stored in non-volatile mem, but I guess not... Otherwise, still working well. I use the hands free for my cell phone ALL the time.
HELLO HELLO BIG QUESTION I INSTALL EXACTLY SAME RADIO ON MY 95 LAND CRUISER BUT RIGHT SIDE REAR SPEAKER 4 1/2 OR 5 INCH DONT WORK, THAT SPEAKER WORKS BEFORE WITH OEM RADIO
You might have done it and I missed it but once you use the gray connections you are bypassing the factory amp so you have to disconnect the power to the factory amp this video show him disconnecting the 2 gray connections from the amp . ua-cam.com/video/oYTVmnKtTnU/v-deo.html
Hi Steve, If you are really installing in a Toyota Land Crusier and not a Lexus you don't have to worry about the amp. If Lexus, I recomend disconnecting the amp or you will get a motor hum. I don't have a lexus so I didn't do this step. The other video you link is a Lexus I believe by the looks of his inside door. He just labled the video 80S. Mine sounds great the way I do it in these 3 videos with no amp interaction as again, I don't think the regular Toyota's have an amp. Best of luck with the install!
Thanks. I bought part at best buy today. Part # 70-1761. Work on my 1994 land cruiser
For king and country!!! Nice man! Great work love the patience and detail for the work you did thanks for all the help

Okay I will thanks. It Factory . That's why I thought it would be one of the wires that was part of the the connection that went into the old radio .

If I don't have a soldering iron can I just use electrical tape to tape the 2 wires together after I twist them?

Clay, i think I saw somewhere that you sell the speaker spacers needed for the front doors? What do those run? I'm in houston

So the e-brake thing...Why will the unit not work without the e-brake up? Is that just for video playing?
M Car-man - Yes - supposed to prevent distracted driving / accidents.
@@Texasknowhow So can you just ground it?

Clay, which wiring harness did you buy for this? Looking to install a similar head unit in my '97 soon.
I don't remember the part number or anything, but it was the only option at Best Buy for an after-market stereo install for 1993-1997 Land Cruisers.
Wish I saw this video before I started lmao.
How is the radio doing do you still like it , Have you have any trouble with it ?

can you properly title your vids pls btw? its 80 series or FZJ80 / FJ80, not 80S.
I'll start adding the FZJ80 to the titles; good suggestion.

thats not an 80's LC
Yes it is. It’s and fzj80 (model number) not an 1980’s.
