  • Here is a clip from a 1963 Walt Disney program entitled Greta, The Misfit Greyhound. The episode aired on television on the Wonderful World Of Disney in February, 1963.
It was filmed in the Boise, Idaho area and featured prominent members of the Basque community as actors.
In this scene, featured with the dog is John "Takolo" Txakartequi (dancing with greyhound) who was from the Mt. Home, Idaho community as I recall. Playing his ususual accordian is Jimmy Jausoro, a man who perhaps as much as anyone, is responsible for the rebirth and the ongoing growth of the Basque culture in the American West. The man on the tambourine I believe to be Jose Mari Sanqroniz, a member of the community at the time. I am sorry that I do not know the names of the two others in this scene.
Jimmy is playing the traditional Jota, a dance performed at all celebrations. It is oh so familiar and wonderful to hear.
The narrator is Rex Allen for whom I later wrote some commercials while he was working with The Clinton E. Frank Agency in Chicago.
