    Your earlier videos on the Raspberry Pi Multicast TV server were the reason I found, and subbed to, your channel originally.
    It's good to see you return to this subject with more detail in this series. :)

      Thanks mate. I saw there was interest in that, so I thought I'd redo it and split up the different sections into their own videos. That way I can go further into each part, and people can just look for the info they're interested in.
      Did you set one up yourself?

      @@TallPaulTech It's on my list of things to do.
      First I need to get a router that will deal with the multicast signal without swamping my network, so I'm looking forward to you covering that in your future videos.

      Me too. I eventually went down the road of HDHomeRun though as it's a little more versatile.

    You can't call that enterprise grade anymore. Now it's for granted in consumer network equipment above a certain price range. And a switch with IGMP snooping does not cost above 30 Euros anymore.

      Well a design like this wouldn't be suitable for a home network, but I know many people will want something like this at home, so I have a solution for that use case as well coming soon.

    Don't pkill dvblast... It'll bugger up the multicast kernel module and you can't restart the stream... Then have to reboot :(

    Great videoseries! Is it possible to do this with encrypted channels with a CAM-module , decoding all the channels before multicast the streams?

    • @TallPaulTech
      @TallPaulTech  5 років тому

      I believe that's possible, but I've only ever used it on free to air tv so I can't really help you with that myself.

      We're using Terra STI410C DVB-T to multicast with CAM module.

    Thanks for the videos CWNE88.
    Can you please give your current recommendations (i.e. Aug 2020) for:
    1) A dvb-t USB dongle to use on a raspberry pi 4 in Australia
    2) A dvb-t/dvb-t2 USB dongle to use on a raspberry pi 4 in Australia (i hear there has been t2 testing in Australia recently so might want to future proof)
    Thanks!

    Very nice. Thanks for these series. Very well done. One question I had is do I need multiple dvb adapters for different channels? I see you used ABC on the RPI, but can I add the entire scanned conf file to dvblast to output all channels and use vlc to connect to any channel?

    • @TallPaulTech
      @TallPaulTech  5 років тому +1

      Each adapter would only be able to tune to a single frequency

    • @CoolKoon
      @CoolKoon Рік тому

      Just to clarify Paul's answer a single adapter can tune in to a single frequency and receive only the channels that are in the multiplex on that given frequency. So you only need multiple adapters if the channels you need are on different multiplexes. If they're on the same multiplex then a single adapter will be enough.

    is there a piece of software that would work with US ATSC/ Clear QAM? After watching your vid, i know dvblast is for dvb. I was just wondering if you've heard of one for the us tv standards?

  • @NoWorthWhile
    @NoWorthWhile 5 років тому

    Thank you for this informative video. As others have pointed out, your original Dvblast videos were the reason I subbed to your channel.
    All of this is awesome and pretty "easy" to set up, the issue is Client-side viewing with a good WAF. Many of us are using Emby or Plex as their frontend, and I struggle to find a good way to integrate Dvblast into this. I'm not sure if Dvblast supports this, but an .m3u file to import into Emby or Plex would be the way to go. But then, I'm not well versed enough in linux and network infrastructure to understand if multicast works with .m3u or if I need a unicast stream. Any insight on this? Will you take a look at clients other than VLC? Something more akin to a standard DVR that a wife would understand? Thanks again!

    • @TallPaulTech
      @TallPaulTech  5 років тому +1

      If you saw my intro in the first video of this little series, I mentioned that I will talk about the clients too. Just keep watching :)
      As for the wife issues.... tell her there's footage of you on there in bed with the neighbour. She'll soon figure out how to play it.

    Is anyone able to record the multicast stream using ffmpeg or something similar. I get perfect video in VLC but when I record it via ffmpeg it comes out pixilated and I loose audio after a few seconds.
